I like how said it’s important to be able to sing the solo. A lot of shredmasters turn playing guitar into a flex fest, but it really helps if they can do melodic too. That’s probably why Tim and Polyphia have gotten so big.

At first i started with learning different chords and power chords and then learned how to do artificial notes and things like that and triplets. I learned a lot of techniques you use in metal before I learned any specific song and then I started learning my favorite songs and it was much easier. Ive even started to write my own music but just for fun with my friends and we havent made a full song yet but its defintely very fun.

  34. Rohann van Rensburg

    March 6, 2023 at 2:30 pm

I think the “Boomer Bend” thing was more a confusion about what he was referring to, i.e. that all guitar bends are for boomers. How he uses it in actuality is pretty hilarious and appropriate.

  35. james crawley

    March 6, 2023 at 2:30 pm

It’s just a bend… there’s absolutely no reason to call it a boomer bend other than to be insulting lmao

think everyone’s first guitar has Mojo, my Cort i got at 13 just feels so much more comfy to play than any other guitar I’ve ever bought I assume because it was my first and what I played most in the beginning , or maybe my fingers just aren’t long and lanky enough for other fretboards lol

  66. FuzzyThoughts

    March 7, 2023 at 3:43 pm

On the question about making original music, I feel like that idea is just weird. EVERYTHING is derivative, your favorite old music sampled even older music, originality isn’t actually what people want. They want something they already like twisted in an interesting way.

Tim is an absolutely incredible guitarist. I feel bad because I didn’t actually know about him until he showed up on Rick Beato’s channel a while back, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his music since. Way to go man, and there’s a ton of great ink everywhere.

2:06 it’s a cool explanation about solos being memorable, that’s probably my favorite thing about Polyphia is all of their music “fits” the band, but it has such as wide range of sounds where some bands just only sound like one thing and are easy to forget, Polyphia sticks in the memory as being so unique each time

I wonder if Tim realizes he is a musical genius; he seems to be aware, but plays it cool. His brain sees music everywhere and even better his body is able to keep up.
He breaks down music so nonchalantly, like he is explaining 2+2 He doesn’t give cliche bs answers but explains very simple and concise.

Also he has this trendy air about him, but he is quite pleasant when he gets on real-talk mode. He is more approachable than apperances let on.

Once in a generation talent, Polyphia has made history and will go down in the Hall of Fame in my opinion.

Humble would indicate that he is either unaware or dismissive of his own knowledge or ability, which is false. It appears he can still relate to those who are where he was several years ago. As someone who learnt to play guitar, i mean, went to music class and everything but at the end, i play piano and drum way better than guitar itself, i’m really deeply respect for those who can play guitar. it’s not an easy instrument and usually when i play guitar, it’s frustrated me.

The one thing I don’t get is his point about intonation like you can just adjust it? It’s not like each guitar has fixed intonation. Can someone confirm if what he said actually makes any sense?

Every time Tim needed to stop and explain what a certain musical term meant (harmonic minor, roots/fifths/octaves, arpeggios)–that’s all music theory. It’s a really useful shorthand to communicate with other musicians. I hope people don’t think it’s some elitist gate-keeping thing, and instead see it for the useful tool that it is!

tim is such a good dude.. sad that so many people got bent out of shape about the whole ‘boomer bends’ thing- it’s clearly not meant to be a disparaging term, he even says that bohemian rhapsody has one of best solos of all time and it’s full of boomer bends. methinks a lot of boomers are feeling self conscious about themselves and need to get over it.

something that he might be unaware of because hes been playing good, intonated guitars for years, most people are probably playing on a guitar that hasnt been intonated properly and the strings are an inch (not literally) off the fretboard thus making it way harder.

13:33 a very important point. I play an Ibanez RGT1221pb-dtf (fcking ibanez names i swear…) and in comparison you might say it’s not as ‘good’ as a PRS Custom 24, which i could’ve gotten, but everytime i see my guitar i wanna play and that is the entire point of owning an instrument really

  365. @artist91fb

    November 25, 2023 at 6:44 pm

Saddles can be adjusted for intonation. So.. that is a non sequitur. If we spend lots of money on a guitar, many factors come into play. But one would assume that even a cheap guitar, when properly set up by a competent person will perform to a decent standard. Maybe upgrade the tuners and the nut, together with more precise saddles. But that’s just common sense. Love the style and the strong enby vibes here
