Many companies have made strides when it comes to prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), but one group remains largely left out: people who have been involved in the criminal justice system. Social impact investor Nyra Jordan introduces us to “fair chance hiring” — the practice of hiring people with criminal justice records — and shares four steps companies can take to make sure everyone has a shot at getting a job.

Instead of figuring out how to more effectively hire criminals wouldn’t it be time better spent to help stop people from becoming criminals in the first place?

Most decent jobs require a criminal background check. They can see what you did.

Criminality/reform on the surface cannot possibly address all the underlying (sometimes permanent) emotional damage, scars and even mental illness
associated with the people that “fairness” must adopt.
Should the HR departments be foremost focused ON “DEI” and it’s seemingly endless addons of group identities?

Thank you for sharing this important information. Thousands of individuals are unjustly incarcerated and they carry that stigmata for life. It is imperative that we give these people a chance to prove their worthiness to a company.

Hiring based on qualification? Somebody tell Joe Biden! Translation: Law-abiding Citizens need to adapt to adhere to the needs of those who chose criminality. Or, you’re un-empathetic and likely a racist. DIE will – fittingly – be the death of everything.

I’m white & my mom married a black man when I was 9. I’m 50 now & they’re still together. He helped raise me, I call him ‘Dad’ & I named my only son after him. He graduated West Point 74′ his brother went to Ivy League school & became an MD. Neither of them needed affirmative action to do it either! This Woke movement and Critical Race Theory is abhorrent, destructive & wrong. Running around fighting mythical systemic racism with ACTUAL systemic racism! These people need to see a proctologist about possible brain damage. No cap.

In Canada we did a study of 350,000 American inmates way back in the 1950s. We found that longer prison sentences lead to greater recidivism. It’s impossible to imagine that failure to integrate former inmates into society wouldn’t exacerbate the problem. How could it not ? What kind of long term effects do these factors have on entire communities ?

    abolish prison
companies are just gonna use this as a way to under pay people

It really depends on the kind of crime that they have committed. No one will want to hire a violent criminal , its too much of a risk. For a non violent , crime does not match the punishment type of a situation, yes they deserve a second chance.

If youre not hireing based purely on merit, trust, and performance, then you are doing it wrong.
