7:45 Most people are not in the position to “become free of the fear from finding a job.” Ater all, it isnt the fear from finding a job: it is the fear of not finding a job. That is a luxury left to people that have a safety net to protect their well being after college with enough support (food, shelter, etc) to give them the time and opportunities to find employment while still being housed, fed, and having the necessary funds to cover college debt payments, health insurance, etc.

      November 1, 2024 at 6:08 pm

It’s one of the paradoxes here. Because that safety becomes much easier when you are able to do be positive towards others like this, while it’s easier to give like that with such safety. But there’s value to this. If you want to have a positive community around you, it’s best to emulate and encourage that kind of behavior

This was a pretty lame TedTalk. It’s just the speaker repeating “give to the other person” over and over and over again. I get the message but it’s pretty dry.

  11. @nothinginteresting1662

    “Business is all about people”

To most corporations, people are resources to be used. They proudly use that term as if it makes them sound smart.

Nice talk, but very distinct from reality.

I have heard this strategy many times before. But I think I would feel even more discusted if I went up to a millionaire and pretended to care about improving their monetary status. Because that’s what those people usually want. If I speak to someone to make their day better, I would have to guestimate what would make their day better. I would love to meet a sad millionaire and cheer them up. Lol
Charity is given by people who have the means to give. Some people are very poor. Time poor, energy poor, or just poor. But yeah I get it, it’s just harder to genuinely help someone who is better off than you.

    • @dylanschulz9118

      November 1, 2024 at 6:11 pm

Maybe… But really, do this with your peers. A very accessible thing to do is organize things with friends and so on, and actively invite new people who are interesting. The investment in making pancakes together on a Saturday morning is not so large IMO

It’s true that “buying” social capital is harder as your wealth diminishes because our system is regressive, however it does show confidence and risk management on the givers part. The gift for social interaction doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to be tailored and engaging. A potential investor in a personal enterprise likes magic? Then learn a simple magic trick that’s fun, etc.

I want to tell everyone about someone amazing. His name is Jesus. He loves us so much. First Corinthians 15:3-7 tells us that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and on the third day rose from the dead. He did this so that we may be able to enter Heaven through him. All you have to do is put your faith and trust in him, accept him as Lord and savior, and follow him. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only begotten son that whosever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life” God is so good. Jesus is coming very soon. There have been signs of him coming. “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” Matthew 24:7. There are earthquakes, floods, wars, rumors of wars, evil, and wickedness happening right now. These are the signs. Jesus will come any day, you don’t want to be left behind. The tribulation will be like nothing you have ever seen before, and it’s not good. I am warning you, get saved before it’s too late.

Networking is incredibly grim. Very important if you choose to enter the sort of soulless, money-driven world that requires it, but still incredibly soulless.

I feel the question “what can I give?” instead of “what can I get?” makes people more aware of their capabilities and value. This allows people to feel good just like how we feel happy after helping someone else, which gives them confidence so they tend to enjoy and value the relationship more.
