I want more on Loki please… like does he use magic in Norse mythology and what about his sexuality… and also in Marvel too Loki doesn’t have any weapon..that spear was given to him by Thanos that too destroyed later on except the mind stone…

The Testament of Abraham tells us the angel of death had to make a deal with Abraham because he refused to die.

The deal was – he’d get to ride around the world in a chariot before returning to the Most High.

During his ride he got upset with the wickedness he saw and he caused these people to be swallowed up in the Earth.

    …which probably sounded thunderous.

God put a stop to this – saying He had reason to let them continue.

The point is: it is possible the norse people witnessed this flyby and named Abraham “Thor”.

Thereafter inspiring fear whenever a storm was playing out.

I don’t know if this is what happened – but it does offer some explanation.

Also Hela along with Fenrir, the giant wolf she rides, are both children of Loki.

    Other neat facts
Mjolnir was actually commissioned by loki
Odin’s spear Gungnir will never miss and any oath sworn upon it will never be broken
Loki once turned into a horse (if you are very very brave or foolish look up why)
Thor once had to dress up as a bride (I really wish we got something like that in Marvel)
In marvel Fenris wolf seems to be Hella’s pet in mythology he is actually her brother Fenrir

    • Jermaine Kngdom

      June 29, 2022 at 12:24 am

Fenris and Fenrir are the same being. That’s why alot what he say is wrong. Norse has many contradicting stories. Like Loki and Odin are the same person. Odin used to be a trickster God who was called the walker before becoming king.

Thor hammer have various descriptions not all small like marvel.

Loki was once female. He once gave birth as a female wolf.

Loki was a fire giant. He has different color eyes apparently.

      Thor mother is Gaia.

He isn’t wrong. And isn’t not wrong. Their are many different interpretations. Thor is blond and red headed.

Hela name is Hela and is a place in hel.

I think Stan Lee admitted in “Origins of Marvel Comics” that he and Jack Kirby really didn’t know much about Norse mythology when they created their comic book Thor. They used some of what they remembered, but just made up a whole bunch of stuff (which is why Thor and Sif have the wrong hair color, for instance). What’s also left out of this video is that the movie Thor has no resemblance to the character Stan and Jack created, but is based on the famous Walter Simonson run on “Thor” in the 80’s, where he injected Norse mythology back into Marvel’s Asgard and completely revised Thor’s character (punting his secret identity of lame Dr. Donald Blake, for starters). That Simonson run is legendary for good reason, and one of the few cases in comics where the re-vision fully and completely replaced the original. But Dr. Nordvig here is a Norse mythology expert, not a comic book fan, so there’s no reason why he would have known about that Simonson run. I think he’d dig it, though.

This event alone led to the creation of Mjölnir and Gungnir, among others.

    • N N

      June 30, 2022 at 1:32 pm

I quit the game bc I found the interpretation of norse mythology tio shallow. All female gods compressed into one whiny lady, the explicitly peaceful Balder just changed into a hooligan because of his unability to get hurt. That would’ve been cool if it was depicted as an internal struggle in him between two opposite sides of something..
..but maybe the game would’ve got better if I’d kept playing 🙂

    • Moking C

      June 30, 2022 at 1:46 pm

@N N the game has one of the most well-told story in recent gaming history (not by my own standard). But the story is about father-son relationship, so I assume one needs to be at least old enough to be able to appreciate that.

And the game, or any game, is never for everyone, so I’m not gonna persuade you anything. Just don’t call it shallow if you haven’t even finish the game bruh, that’s like calling a mountain too low when you been climbing it for 5 mins.

    • J R

      July 1, 2022 at 1:15 am

Most people don’t realize it but there are a LOT more accurate representations of Thor out there in pop culture(AND in comics and even DC Comics has their own version of Thor) in various different mediums but the Marvel version is just the most popular version of Thor in pop culture. That’s why when I write some comics that I have planned for my version of Thor,I’m not even going to call them ”Thor”,just to avoid any kind of association or confusion with Marvel’s version of Thor.
God Of War is very accurate to Norse myth and legend.

As a pagan I consider mythology to be a classification similar to retro or vintage. But instead of time periods it’s religions. Like how Christianity, Islam, Judaism are considered Abrahamic religions. Mythology doesn’t have to mean ” fake “

Hel was Loki’s daughter, that should be mentioned. I’m not sure if Loke was Hel’s mother or father, as Loki could change into many things. He is the mother of Sleipnir, Odin’s 8 legged horse, and the Fenris wolf, I think. Excellent video. Also, I think Friday is named after Frigg, which is cool.

    • Lady Liza

      July 24, 2022 at 12:24 pm

Loki is Hels father, her mother is the giant Angerboda. They also had Fenrir, the wolf, and Jormungander, the world serpent, together. Also, Friday being Friggs day is actually a bit of a debate. Some think it could be Freyjas day, some say its Friggas day

    • brandurell

      July 25, 2022 at 11:32 am

@Lady Liza the Faroese word for Friday is Fríggjadagur, which sounds more like Frigg, but in Danish it is fredag, sounding more like Freya. Interesting, I think..

  123. Irfan Hashmi

    July 21, 2022 at 5:58 pm

I feel like this guy has not watched the Marvel movies…Loki isn’t depicted as being a blood relation to Thor, he is called a frost giant in the MCU. Also the scepter isn’t really “Loki’s” weapon, its just the space stone lent to him by Thanos. And lastly, the situation of there being a Ragnarok despite Thor’s efforts is still very much in play in the MCU, in fact Thor stealing the crown is what allowed Ragnarok to happen.

Hel was where 😅 (it really sound like he said “nipple heimr”, you can pronounce it with combining n + if + hey + mrr. No nipples here)
Pretty good parts, some pronouncing went kinda there, but every now and then it didn’t. Some facts were weird and not alternative possibilities (Like Frigga and Freya being the same person, there was no mention that Hel was Loki’s child etc). Also I have a slight smile every time I hear Odin and Thor’s names. It is not “Oh-tin”, it is “O-thin”.
But I really love this video, it shows really good corrections for what Marvel did to Norse mythology 👍
