Doubt the M2 would be significantly different from the M1.

Just needs more than 16GB of RAM, and better external display support for it to be winner in my book

    • jpdemer5

      August 25, 2021 at 8:06 pm

Oh, it’ll be different. 16 cores, if not 32. and double the cache memory. Intel will be left in the dust.

    • Xavier Breath

      August 26, 2021 at 1:07 am

@jpdemer5 If Apple follow their usual behaviour, they will make the chip significantly better, then cripple it by pairing it with a completely inadequate cooling system. I suspect that the current M1 Mac Mini will probably run faster than the new one.

Drives and ports BREAK. What if the Mac mini could have some sort of port module that connects via some sort of socket and this way when the port break all you have to do is change the port module. Also what if you could make these port modules with various types of ports.
This way Apple could support all types of ports and configurations. And this way the Mac mini could be future proof supporting NEW port technology.

    • Xavier Breath

      August 26, 2021 at 1:03 am

That sounds a lot like the Framework laptop. It’s a great idea. Can’t see Apple doing something like that, though. They don’t believe in giving people choices, and would probably prefer you buy an entirely new machine. The last thing Apple want is a future proofed Mac.

    • 37375

      August 26, 2021 at 1:10 am

@Xavier Breath yeah, and if you could remove this port module you could remove all access to the computer. Making it more secure.
By not being able to access the ports keeps people from tampering with the computer.

Having all of the mac mini’s since 2012, they have all been amazing (except the 2014). A better ‘pro’ version will be well received. I’ve always favored the mini to imac simply for the ability to run dual monitors (that are the same).

I have a 2019 iMac 27, 2020 iPad Pro 12.9, and a 2019 Macbook Pro 16 . . .I’m patiently waiting to see what they do with the Macbook Pro 16 with an M1 before making a new purchase. I am also TRYING MY BEST to wait for the new M1 iMac Pro before getting a Mac Mini for my photography and such.

I’ve had an M1 Mini for a couple of weeks now – it’s fast, quiet, and amazingly cool: where the previous Mini used to get hot to the touch, this thing has yet to depart from room temperature. Processes photos and videos in seconds. It has just barely enough ports for the essential stuff, but I still needed a USB hub for peripherals that I plug in only occasionally. Only downsides are the lack of an SD card reader, and the fact that that it won’t talk to my old 27″ iMac, which I’d been using as a second monitor . . . I had to buy a second monitor to replace it. No net cost, once I unload the iMac on eBay, but it was an unexpected hassle.

The M1 mini is my first ever Mac. Last Apple desktop was an Apple IIGS when I was a kid. I love this thing. Had it since March, still never heard the fan. They swear it’s in there though. It’s more than enough computer for my needs, I’m really happy with it. Transitioning to a new OS wasn’t as hard as I thought. I can’t wait to see where these chips go in the future, particularly on the GPU side of things.

The M1 was the final straw for me. After YEARS of Apple abusing their users, they finally went full on and came out with a machine that was completely unable to be upgraded, repaired or added to. They killed off support for eGPUs and they decimated Bootcamp (removing HALF the functionality of the machine in one hit). It was bad enough when Apple made “desktops” out of laptop parts, but now with M1 they have gone full iPhone. The latest “Macs” have more in common with a phone than an actual Mac. I’m done with Apple and all their BS. My next machine will be one I build myself. It will be a PROPER desktop machine. It will have far more processing power than an M1 machine and won’t be crippled by macOS. It will have a high end graphics card, the ability to connect more than 5 monitors, it will have three internal SSDs, at least 4 internal hard drives, be water cooled, and it will have at LEAST 11 USB ports. It will be a beast, and it will cost around the same as what I spent on my “high end” 2018 Mac Mini and, now crippled by Apple, eGPU. Of course, that will only be the starting point, I’ll be expanding it from there.

M1 Mac mini is snappy and has tons of cool, new features as part of Big Sur. I had no problem editing 4K video and high resolution photos on it, even with several programs and browser windows open at the same time. Get the 16gb of ram and the 512gb of storage, or just wait for the m1x. I had no choice and had to buy an M1 now.

THE M1 MacBook Air is amazing!! Its hard not to repeat the things said by other Tech Reviewers, but 1) Using a laptop for 3 to 4 days without plugging in? 2) Multi-tasking including with many Chrome tabs open?? 3) Switching between programs, Apps, Tabs without ANY, YES ANY DELAY, NO SPINNING WHEELS??!! 4) The laptop wakes from sleeping INSTANTLY!!, with your Apps, Browser Tabs etc, at EXACTLY the place you were before!!! HONESTLY if you’ve been using a windows machine and are even a little curious, give the MacBook M1 a test drive, you won’t be disappointed!!

As someone who hadn’t use apple until the m1 mini, I love it. So much so we now have 4 M1 devices and I’m looking forward the the pro mini. I want something with a bit more overhead for video editing, although the m1 mini is capable enough already.

Hi Iyaz! I watched this video on my M1 Mac Mini. It’s a lovely machine, far outperforming my late 2012 iMac core i7, and much quieter/cooler. I really would like to see a new mac mini with more cores, more ram, and support for more than 1 usb-c attached monitor. but meanwhile, this M1 mini is working great for what I need it for.

To me, the main concern with the M1 chip is its lack to handle dual monitors. I bought a MacBook Pro, just to realize I couldn’t connect it to my dual monitors as the Intel version used to do. Hopefully this problem gets solved soon.
