I play D&D. I leaned into the wizard stereotypes, so my character is all about casting Fireball.

You don’t need any books to begin playing. You don’t even need anything to begin DMing, they have plenty free materials online. Try before you buy, there’s PLENTY of ways to sink a lot of money into this hobby, as I have, and I enjoy it, but if you wanted to try it out first, please don’t buy anything, especially not $150 of source books. I know too many people who’ve gone whole hog and bought everything and then couldn’t get a group to commit to a game, or couldn’t get their game off the ground. Once you know you like it and you’re going to be playing a lot more, yeah, but the books, or even better, have your group all pitch in to help you buy the books as the DM and then the books will be a communal resource for everyone to use

D&D allows a group of people to create an improvised story together: one person creates the setting and the other play individual characters, determining how they behave. The rules create the “physics” for the story, how things act in this created world and how actions play out depending on precalculated probabilities.

I really need to start playing DnD. The imaginative play I’ve experienced as an adult is…lacking, to say the least.

If you have never played before maybe get the players hand book but you can just play one of the preset adventures. Those are a lot of fun but it helps if the DM has read through and knows it front to back. Sometimes small things come up and you don’t want to need to reference over and over

You also need to be a virgin.

You can use a dnd format for other variants, my friends and I are playing a one piece dnd where we have stands and the enemies are other stand users

    Edit: fruits not stands
