The answer to the thumbnail question is: Dyson’s bladeless fan is not bladeless. It just hides its perfectly normal bladed blower-fan inside the base of the appliance, and distributes it to the ring with ducts, at very low efficiency.

He explains suction in a really bad way. Basically the blades displace the air which creates a vacuum effect… hence the turn vacuum cleaner. It doesnt “draw in the air” at all. The gas molecules simply fill the void left by the fan blades.

Don’t encourage him Wired!
I bought a dyson vac cleaner in the 1990s. Lasted 2 years. Brittle plastics and cheap components. No suprise. Waste of money. My bad.
I find it beyond Incredible that this guy can persuade people to pay $650 on a desk fan thats not better than a $15 bargain basement Walmart one – other than it looks better.
That I suppose this ability is one kind of genius in its own right – or at least blatant chutzpah. Not something I admire or respect though. As a design engineer myself I don’t really respect his engineering. He doesn’t have really have much in the way of engineering know how or credentials. Just maybe some eye or flair for aesthetics that somehow hynotises people into paying 50 times overwhat the product is worth.
His recent billion $ foray / mess into electric cars design indicates he is perhaps at his peak in desk fans and hoovers.
Also don’t like him because he forced brexit on the UK – then immediately pissed off to live in Singapore. Jerk

5:08 I would say file for a provisional patent pending first. A patent may not initially be perfect and the cost is very high. A provisional patent pending will allow you to go public and still protect your idea. If within 12 months you can’t market the idea, stop the process and don’t lose awesome amounts of money.

I had a old dot matrix printer, and, after, ah, what was it, 25 years, it still worked, but, the ribbon was dry, as, a bone. Now, have a new one, mabye few years aold, and, of course the ink is gone or the nozzles are clogged, and dried out, it’s like a, “One use device” you buy it, use, it, just for that ink, that, came with it, and, then, now it is, just a big paperweight. I have a idea, but, chemistry, is, just out of my understanding. Where’s Macgyver when ya need him Eh! Am I right! Anyways, get inventing, you, inventive types, you….. if you don’t, I will. 🙂 Later Gators

I guess the dyson fan technically uses a Venturi to create a low pressure zone behind the ring which then create the directional flow. Similar devices are used for some tube conveyors and vacuum systems that use compressed air as an energy source. Very interesting

Thanks for the insights. But lest be honest, your blade-less fan is not really blade-less, the blades (or turbine if you will) is in the base. More of a ducted fan. That quibble aside, calling it a blade-less fan is a fine bit of marketing. That is an important lesson as well. You can invent a nice clever thing but if you cannot sell it you are kind of spinning your wheels.

quick answer: It actually has blades and hes ducting the air to the blow hole using effects found out during the cold war. Truly an amazing innovator? Like the way Dyson innovated engineered obsolescence into their last few corded vacuum designs? Like how they have been deliberately designed to have the motor fail at around 3 years of usage because it can no longer “breath/cool itself” and the consumer can’t stop it happening because Dyson wrapped the motor in a hidden filter rather than have a replaceable rear exhaust HEPA filter like every single vacuum has had as a design necessity since the beginning of time for vacuums?
…….. now some would say THAT is pure evil sorcery 😛

Last question/answer – YES!
I’ve been arguing exactly that for years, with very poor results.
Designers and engineers scoff at one-another, while that should be one – a coherent unit.
Design must follow engineering and engineering must allow design.
Thank you, I will play that to all my students, so they don’t think I’m an old craizie.

This man is in league with Gates and the plandemic. He invested in intubation tech months before the pandemic hit and subsequently made billions. The unnecessary intubation of perfectly curable patients ended in their deaths. He is an evil man..
