The only reasons I would switch back to Apple is the stereo camera for motion capture filming, and the conveniently intuitive mute switch. Might just get an old Mini to use as a Dev tool…

What about the downgrade that suffered when was remove the 3.5mm jack , essential for a decent pair of headphones 🎧

My last upgrade was to the 12 Pro Max only because my 7 plus died. Otherwise I am not one to upgrade often. I just purchased an iPhone SE 3 for the purpose of getting off of the upgrade Ferris wheel. I also like the simplicity and the home button of the SE3. I’m hoping to keep this one for the long-haul. I’m done upgrading every couple of years. These phones are not cheap as it is and they are going up higher every few years! 😳

I only need a small device for simple use. 😌

But I do enjoy the excitement around new releases! 🎉

I will never buy another iphone again, when my 12 pro dies I am leaving for Android, buggy software, overpriced unrepairable tech from a company with questionable ethos isnt worth the money

The USB C change is welcomed. Apple is the only company in the world to use lightning connectors for NO REASON today. USB C isn’t what it used to be back in the day. It’s not faster than lightning etc etc. I’m glad Europe made them change it to USB C.

  12. Andrés González

    August 4, 2023 at 7:15 pm

But Bridget, you don’t need to throw away your lightning cables, if data transfer is not a concern, you could buy an adapter instead. Dongle life has always been the Apple way.

I am an Apple eco system user from past 4 years, and I love most of the parts of it. The biggest complain I have is their auto correct and predictive text algorithm in iPhones. It is the worst in the industry and nowhere close to Android.

I’m not sure switching to USB-C means everyone will now go out and buy a USB-C cable. Presumably some will already have a USB-C cable.
Also, won’t MagSafe still be available?
My guess is that most existing Apple customers will either already have MagSafe or be ready to adopt MagSafe. For all the times when MagSafe isn’t available, an existing USB-C cable will be. (“Oh, can I use your USB cable when you’re done?”)

    • EliasJohnny YT

      August 5, 2023 at 7:57 am

Also not to forget people who also bought the 20 watt Type C brick, which basically means nothing is going to Waste and no need to buy anything else. (Tho some people still charger with the Type A bricks, so only does need to go out and get a new Type c one or magsafe)

They were forced to switch due to EU regulations and I applaud EU for this. Plus, for phones that cost $1000, who can’t afford a $15/20 price for a charger. Not a big deal.

  27. Speed Tests

    August 5, 2023 at 6:43 am

I have always had both Samsung and iPhone. I hate the lightening port! Thank goodness the EU forced the USB-C change. I’ve used USB-C since 2015! It’s ridiculous that my iPhone and AirPods Pro has a lightening port!

Most people, including iPhone users, already have Usb-C cables. Literally, EVERY electronic device that’s come out in the last 3-5 years that’s not Apple uses it. Even most of Apple’s own devices use it besides the iPhone. It won’t be that big of a deal.

  55. Dominik Szewior

    August 6, 2023 at 6:07 am

This whole USB C thing is nonsense. To protect the whatever agenda there is, I will have to throw away all my cables. Brilliant and oh how eco friendly. The simplest solution to this problem is to force manufacturers to include usb-lightning converters with new devices. 1. Everyone using lightning will be able to use those cables they already have. 2. Those wanting to use usbc will be able to do so.

Have you heard yourselves getting excited about USB-C adaptors and it being a couple of grams lighter in titanium. You’d think apple had invented time travel 😅…. Apple fans are like a cult jumping about when their master tells them too as they can’t think for themselves. Very sad to see.

USB-C is a pretty big factor for me but considering how many iterations USB has gone through in the life of Lightening it makes me wonder how long C will last until another USB comes along and I’m buying another cable.

    • Declan O'Halloran

      August 7, 2023 at 8:01 pm

The only input I can provide is usb c has been around for sometime and is still improving. Unlike lightning which is hardware limited and reached its max potential a while ago. Usb c isn’t going anywhere for a while. Also usb has only gone thru 2 iterations in the phone space. Micro USB, and usb c. All the other iterations were for different purposes in other parts of the tech space. Usb c is overall a great switch.

  81. dhk19

The rest of the World out side of the US has been paying that for years and is that with the tax included that price ?

  82. BaDam

    August 7, 2023 at 2:22 pm

I used to upgrade every year, but have the same iPhone I bought two years ago. I really don’t feel like I am missing anything. USB-C is awesome, but I charge wirelessly 95% of the time anyway so meh, and more price for titanium – meh. The cameras are going to have to change significantly or they are going to have to enable a desktop computer like the iPad for me to upgrade…

  83. Dan bish

    August 7, 2023 at 5:54 pm

I love the change. Can’t stand the stupid lightening port. Currently having to use 2 different charges for both my S23 Ultra and my Iphone 14 pro sucks. Much welcomed change for me and others who use both IOS and Android. All 5 of us lol😂

  88. Sushma E

Even if the whole family is in the Apple ecosystem then they most likely have a type c charger already for their iPad/mac.
