This is way too much computer for most people. I’m tempted to buy the base model but even that is a bit much for my use

MKBHD uses Final Cut. Why would anyone give it a hard time? It’s obviously robust enough for Professional studios 🧐

    • Justin_tech

      April 2, 2022 at 7:51 pm

Yes he does and many other YouTubers do. It is absolutely a robust program for the professional setting. My statement was aimed toward the more mainstream Premiere/Avid editors who see Final Cut as an “upgraded iMovie,” which it most definitely is not. Hollywood and other industries have a tainted view of Final Cur from its initial release about a decade ago.

Since then, Final Cut X has become powerful and useful for all projects. Not only is it speedy, it’s “magnetic timeline” changes the way an editor edits and makes for a more efficient video editing software. I can edit 2x faster. I believe the future of NLEs (non-linear editing) will go toward a magnetic timeline build – we shall see. Anyway, lots to say it deserves a video. Stay tuned!

Honestly, my wife uses the top of the line Macs for photo editing and they all break down within a year. Then I have to drag the POS to the Apple store where NO ONE THERE answers calls and act smug. They’ll fix the stuff under warranty, but their attitudes suck. In the meantime I just hum along with my PCs that rarely need repaired, gaming/cad/documentation,and if I do need to repair I can just get the part anywhere.

this is a weird statement to me given that i can still edit 40 megapixel photos on my 2013 retina macbook pro with no problems other than speed.. your wife might be using it wrong..

I Have a 2012 Mac book pro 15 inch 😂ask your wife to take care of laptops it isn’t a devices problem if you give even the most reliable device to a person who can’t take care of the device I edit videos and photos on my mac but it’s showing it’s age now so I ordered the m1 pro 16 inch

I have to admit, I want one of those tho I am not sure if its what I really need. A new 5k imac with an i9 would probably be fine tho they are becoming scarce. Great video. Thank you. PS I’m not sure if all the third party monitors have built in cameras for video calls which I do all the time now.

My views on Final cut: It is like shooting a movie with a small camera. Everyone knows that it shoots 4k, everyone is aware that it may even produce better results than bigger and older cameras but it just doesn’t look professional. If you are working in a serious post production company(where they edit ads, tv shows and movies) you can’t even use premiere. Because the director who doesn’t know anything about editing most of the time, once heard that Avid is the best and wants the best for his movie. The editing software doesn’t effect the quality of the product %99.99 of the time. But you can’t explain that to the directors or production companies. So yeah, Final Cut will not be the next Avid anytime soon.

    • Justin_tech

      April 3, 2022 at 1:59 am

Great point. I think one day Avid and Premiere will run more like Final Cut Pro’s magnetic timeline, this will take lots of time, but makes sense to me. I’ll get into this in a Final Cut Pro X editing video.

nice speakers? DAC outsourced to the dock is in itself a poor choice given the macbook’s internal DAC is decent

  22. super hero

    April 2, 2022 at 10:14 pm

I mean it is common sense that if you have all the accessories and don’t need portability then the Mac Studio is cheaper. Is it necessary to spend half the video talking about it? People are not that bad at math.
As far as video editing goes, export time only save you like 5 min per project. Not sure where you get the “speed up my work a ton” from. The strength of the Mac Studio is that you can bombard it with projects after projects without having to worry about longevity of the machine and you can do more advance video editing without any slowdown. These are the things you should mention.
On point on the Studio Display. It is overpriced, old panel tech with unnecessary, wasteful features. It would be a better deal if they just give you the height adjustable and get rid of the webcam and speaker, A13 altogether.
By the way, the speakers are worse than a $100 pair of desk speakers.

But really, you can’t go below the UltraFine 5K anymore, if you are accustomed to the quality. And to compare a Dell with almost half the pixels (8M instead of 14.5M pixels) and almost half the brightness, really? Compared to the UltraFine 5K, the price is ok.
For my taste, the 400 nits on a MacBook Air is low, albeit acceptable for a notebook.

    • Kim Neeper Rasmussen

      April 5, 2022 at 3:55 am

Exactly, I tried one of those Dell 4K things as I was tired on the Thunderbolt’s Display’s low resolution, and to my big surprise, the Dell looked worse. Matte screens gives less resolution and very poor contrast in day time lighting, I returned it and got the LG 5K – it does not compare, I just think he didn’t really test out the Dell, and just assumes he would be happy with it based on specs.

As an Apple shareholder since 2012, I can say I’m very happy with Apple and their products.
The only downside is the eWaste created by older devices that can’t easily be upgraded.

    • ICan'tGiveCredit

      April 3, 2022 at 8:04 pm

Functioning items being thrown into e-waste is not a new concept. I’ve seen this firsthand. E-waste companies have gone from scrapping these items, to reselling them responsibly; it’s come a long way, and that’s a great thing.

    • Kim Neeper Rasmussen

      April 5, 2022 at 3:50 am

Older devices go on as 2nd hand until they are dead, no one scraps functioning Apple products, they have value until dead.

    • Arthur Simon

      April 6, 2022 at 1:05 pm

  41. B9Bot 1

Anyone that laughs at Final Cut apparently aren’t serious video editors. It’s a standard in the industry for many film and TV studios.

    • Deputy Dawg

      April 6, 2022 at 4:46 am

No it’s not. Avid Media Composer far and away still the standard. Adobe Premiere has caught on with smaller budgeted producions. FCPx brings up the rear – from a great distance. Not commenting on capability, just the reality of the studios.

  42. B9Bot 1

    April 5, 2022 at 3:29 pm

Ports over thinness is definitely way better. I don’t want thin, I want ports that I can use.

Good video but is this a conspiracy were all the Mac Studio reviews benchmarks are based on video editing software

  45. Souligna Savann

    April 6, 2022 at 3:52 am

For the height, just put some random books under the stand then you’ll get the desired height 😛

  46. WhiteCrowUK

    April 6, 2022 at 4:06 pm

Recap: if you have MacBook you don’t need speakers camera and mic. You probably have Airpod Max anyway. Not including height adjustable stand in this high price is outrages.
Get high refresh 4k -27 or 32” and just slightly push it back and you’ll get same fidelity as retina – no pixels will be visible. Now you can get 43” mini led Samsung or 42” LG oled – but the size might be too much for some. Upcoming soon Acer x32 mini led looks promising as well.
Rumor has it – new Apple screen will appear in June with mini led.
