You barely mentioned but iCloud+ for me is a must as protection for my personal life.

This is the dumbest video ever. He doesn’t even talk about Google Photos or any other cloud services that you can use to back up your phone. Many people don’t have a Mac for backup. I think this is Apple sponsored video to promote iCloud.

You can also set it up to backup over Wi-Fi whenever iPhone is charging.

Same. These are all Apple dependent solutions. I just want to backup my photos to an external ssd.

Dead right I’m a skin flint. 5gb is plenty. I prune it to address book, mail (which is mostly BS now) no photos. All go to my 1TB storage on my Macbook Pro. New phone? No issues. I just change the settings before.

Is there anyone out there that can kindly explain what is the problem with Yahoo Mail? Thank You!

    • Curiosity Queue

      July 7, 2022 at 3:09 pm

@Phillip James without any additional info, it sounds more or less like something that’s just popular to say. I believe the implication is that it’s outdated and the centralization of googles reach into various other forums and utilities is said to be a necessity for quick logins and profile synchronicity. I have yahoo as an additional email account and find that it’s organizational features are actually superior to that of a standard gmail account’s ui.

@Curiosity Queue I use several email services and Yahoo Mail is one of them. Thank You for your response.

yeah, backing up to cloud storage, especially one that you don’t personally own is not a good idea. as you have put it, “why pay apple even more money?” it’s not just the “principle”, it’s the opportunity of not securing your data through local backups by putting convenience over privacy and security. then paying apple or whomever 99 cents or more to have your data.

I’ve had Yahoo mail since it started. I pay for Yahoo Mail Plus and I use it to import all my mail from Gmail, Hotmail and Live mail. The interface of Yahoo Mail is by far the best. The uggliest as far as I’m concerned is Gmail

What’s wrong with Yahoo mail? I know it’s “old school”, but I’ve had it forever, and everything is tied to it. Is there something so concerning about Yahoo mail that I should go through ALL THAT TROUBLE to change EVERY account to my gmail? Why the hate on Yahoo mail? Please help me understand.

You could just connect an external SSD to your iPhone and back up photos & videos to it. I think most people really only care about those things as you can always redownload your apps.

yes because .99 to $2.99 is soooooo expensive …. and the people that complain about that cost goes to starbucks every day and spends $7 on a latté. physical backups chews up massive amounts of storage. idiots will spend $400 to get 1TB in their mac instead of a couple bucks a month for cloud. honestly, if you can’t afford cloud storage, you need to switch to a cheap android, you can’t afford to own an iphone

I have a couple of questions:

    1. I have a PC
    2. I have 2 iPhones (5SE & XS Max)
    3. iTunes is not recognizing either phone (yes iTunes is updated to the latest version).
    4. I don’t use iCloud.

Here’s what I need done: To be able to back up the two phones so I can merge them so when I get the 14 later this year I can have the info on one phone.
As you stated in the video, I want to save all the pix and videos to my PC.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx in advance.

Here’s a great tip for those wanting to have extra points of failure for a macOS backup.

Use an external storage to backup your Mac with Time Machine, and this will include your iOS backup too. Theoretically speaking, you could have 2 points of failure: macOS and Time Machine.

And if you still don’t feel secure, you could add an extra storage for another Time Machine backup. Therefore, you now have 3 points of failure:

    1. macOS
    2. Time Machine external backup 1
    3. Time Machine external backup 2

If your an Amazon Prime member use the “Unlimited Photo Storage”. Just tell iCloud to stop backing up photos and use this instead. This allows that 5 GB’s iCloud gives you to go a lot farther. 🙂
