These 3 women are exceptions though. Most single mothers today aren’t single because their husbands died. They aren’t even married to begin with…especially not black single mothers. And it’s disingenuous to compare MLK, Malcolm X and James Baldwin as examples of boys raised in single parent homes to the majority of black boys raised in single parent homes who end up in prison, in gangs or generally not in the best positions in life.
Yes, Moms do “shape” the world…and that’s not necessarily a good thing.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. We need to say thank you more to the people behind the scenes, and validate mothers/women as individuals, beyond them fulfilling their assigned gender roles.
Speaking on the stories told in media about motherhood, here’s one that I think does motherhood justice and is one of them most _beautiful_ films I have ever watched: an animated Japanese film from 2018 called _Maquia: The Promised Flower Blooms._
Wept like I hadn’t since my grandmother passed away 4 years ago, but not just with grief – this time with love, ferocity, and bittersweet joy as well. Immediately reached out to my mother and thanked her afterwards. For her love, for her leadership, for teaching me about hard work. And we continue our conversation about how we men in the Filipino culture can support mothers better and validate them as individuals and not just home-makers in their traditional role in Filipino culture.
(Filipino-American here, and very active in my community. Striving to change the way hard conversations about mental health and gender roles are done in our traditional, shame-based culture.)
Regarding the movie, if anyone is interested to know more: It’s the story of a girl from a mythical ageless people that never grows physically older than 20 and never dies except by the sword. Sad, but not tragic – it’s about motherhood, familial love, and how relationships make life worth it. And the story, the art, the music – so, so beautiful and powerful. Without spoiling too much, revolves around her relationship with an adopted son. Trailer is on YouTube as well.
If you ever check it out, bring tissues and have your family close by to hug afterwards. (Highly recommend watching with English subtitles, but English audio is available too).

Mothers are the creators of all humans. There surely couldn’t be any of us without them, bcuz a man surely cannot produce an offspring without a female. Although they’re surely trying and pretending that have. There’s stories about females transitioning to be a male(as well as men doing the same thing), and one/some even were pregnant. Now, that’s another conversation for another day. I’m glad I stumbled upon her presentation, because it’s very interesting as well as factual. I’m in total agreement with everything she mentioned. I’m also glad I heard her speak, because I learned something new which I always enjoy doing. Thank you for honoring such amazing mothers and not forgetting them. There’s always going to be certain people who still don’t wish to acknowledge anything positive that has to do with us as African Americans. Those type of people have such twisted mindsets and feel threatened by the fact that we’re so strong, intelligent, and definitely are survivors. Which is a must to have survived over 400 years of their evilness!!! Great commentary. 👍🏽🎯💯‼️🤗

This Saintly patient topic, reminds me of a documentary on India’s 🇮🇳 ‘Gareem Bank’, the initial blue print, & perpetuating success of empowering the direct source of a grassroots community,.
An insightful, though monumentally overdue recognition of the systemic dynamic of that of a Mothers’ realm.
The success dynamic of the ‘Gareem Bank’, solely only lends to Mothers, this template has now reached to parts of Africa, where general financing is most secure.

Women can’t win. If they stay home and raise their kids they’re told they’re not contributing to society and are a drain. If they work they’re told they’re not doing their job of raising their kids and society’s problems such as teens getting involved in drugs and gangs or low academic success are their fault. It’s especially hard for single mothers who have to manage everything and are expected to be in two places at once, both at work and at home in the afternoon/evening looking after kids and helping with homework.
