Game & Watch Super Mario Bros. is a crazy ’80s gaming time machine

Nintendo’s recreated its classic Game & Watch series, but added Super Mario Bros. to it. It’s ridiculous and cool — and destined to become a collectors’ item on a superfan’s shelf. We open the package and play with what’s inside.

The lack of a headphone jack is a bummer bit it probably wouldn’t fit with the size constraints

I did the Konami code at the game select screen, and the game started at level 3-1.

Don’t know if anyone has said this, but there WAS a Super Mario Bros Game&Watch in the original lineup. It would have been cool if they put that on here.

Would I want Nintendo to release one now? No.

Nice. But kinda junk. 3 games. I mean, come on. Put the entire library of game and watch on there and maybe I’d buy it? Maybe?

The watch aspect of the ‘Game & Watch’ was to sit it on your desk and use it as a clock when not playing, that’s what we did at school in the 80s ✌🏼🌍

I bought 1 purely because of nostalgia. I member playing the gw on a cruise ship in the 80s.

  25. Kolby Fisher

    November 14, 2020 at 1:18 am

They needed to put the little display arm on the back so it can stand up. With that said, that’s my only complaint, everything else was spot on. I didn’t buy this for the game itself, the box it came and the unit it self is awesome. Also playing mario on it is fun. Would have been cool had they put many game and watch games on it. I will take this awesome remake as it is, totally cool! The scale is accurate to the originals. FYI game and watch did release super Mario brothers on game in watch in 1988. I do get what you are saying, It’s NES and game and watch combined for an awesome anniversary piece! 😁

Get a RK, RG, LDK or PocketGo from RetroMiMi instead. They’re about $20 or so more and come with a micro SD card with the OS and some games installed on it. I got the original PocketGo with a 2.4″ IPS display, a 32GB micro SD card, a hard carry case and Rainbow buttons for $40. I also got the New PocketGo that has a 3.5″ IPS screen and 2 micro SD card slots (For up to 64GB) with a 32GB micro SD card, a hard carry case and Rainbow buttons for $75. These are nice little handhelds for the price. I read buying these from other sellers is questionable, that’s why I recommend RetroMiMi.

Seeing the game and watch makes me wish that nintendo brings back a Gameboy advance classic editon or something like that. With built in games like pokemon ruby, link to the past, final fantasy advance, etc.

Mine arrived today, it’s a neat collectible overall, but seeing as I’m not planning to flip it for a quick profit, I’m not feeling it was worth the $50 overall, unless you are a die hard Nintendo fan. I just can’t understand why SMB2 (US) and SMB3 were not also included on the device at this price point. Oh well, I knew that it only came with these games but I bought it anyway, knowing that it will spend 95% of it’s life sitting on a shelf.

wish they sold NES games on switch like carts that you plug into it. it should also glitch out and force you to blow into the port every so often before the game starts.
