Lol, Samsung’s event announcements and the summary pages looks exactly like Apple’s. I am thrilled to know lossless music will come to the iPhone near you, this Fall. 😛

Extremely disappointed. Nothing new and where did the rotating bezel go on the watch 5? Why does Samsung keep removing the very things that make their products unique?

It’s an odd statement for them to make seeing as this staff clearly has actually had their hands on it already. Yes, they mean to own their own, but still, they should focus on the customers, not themselves.

I was really disappointed. So the only thing that changed with the Watch 5 is the temp sensor and the sapphire glass?. I’m happy with my watch 4. I guess Samsung put all the features they had in the watch 4 and now they have run out of ideas

Yes but looking like a terrible copy cat version.

Rule 1 of marketing: sell the lifestyle not the product!

No one cares about “all powered by Qualcomm 86518/7&(@)” yawn. Apple would say, and people would listen, “the revolutionary A15 bionic, the smallest and most powerful chip in an iPhone ever, that uses 20% less power and is 50% more powerful than before”

  19. Robb Ryan

    August 10, 2022 at 9:33 pm

Sorry, samsung, but the new Z Fold4 (and, in all probability, the Z Flip4) is a VERY SAD “disappointment”…and, one that I would recommend people NOT buy. You’re MUCH better off getting the (6 month-old) S22 Ultra, oof which I’ll get back to in a bit.

Sure, the new hinge mechanism is better, stronger, and faster (I’m sounding like the opening words of “The Six Million Dollar Man”)…but, ‘better’ isn’t always “better”. Yes, the hinge mechanism, as well as the inside display, are lighter. Yes, the display is better. Yes, the hinge mechanism is stronger. However, Samsung chose to completely ignore (purposely???) the elephant in the room…the biggest problem the previous Z Fold & Z Flip handsets have…the ‘crease’ where the screen folds. How is it that Motorola, a ‘lesser’ company, is not only able to develope a better hinge mechanism, and a folding screen that NEVER has a crease…and, that they did this with their 1st-gen folding handset…yet, even after four generations, Samsung is incapable of doing the same. Samsung is SUPPOSED to be the “technology leader” when is comes to Android mobile handsets…yet, in reality, they’re flailing like a fish out of water.

Next up, the camera. The Z Fold line is SUPPOSED to be Samsung’s “flagship” line…and, as such, it SHOULD have the ‘top’ components in every category…yet, the cameras in the Z Fold4 are no better than the (6 month-old) mid -level S22 Plus. Samsung prides themselves on being the “intelligent” company…but, how ‘intelligent’ is it to create a (so-called) ‘flagship’ product, and then cripple it with lower components?

There are other areas where Samsung COULD have TRULY improved the Z Flip…but, instead of continuing on about the component deficiencies, I’m going to cover the pricing ‘deficiency’. Rumor had it that the Z Fold4 would cost less than the Z Fold3…and, considering what was already known, this rumor had extensive merit. After all, everyone knows that, in manufacturing, the greatest number of units produced per run, the lower the per-unit cost. Due the high initial sales of the Z Fold3, and the expected even-greatest initial sales of the Z Fold4, (as previously disclosed by Samsung), Samsung doubled the production for the initial Z Fold4 run. As such, we KNOW the per-unit cost would be lower. So, why the drastic price increase? This is all a marketing strategy. Samsung *claims* they are giving all buyers one free year of Samsung Care+…but, if you consider the lower production cost, and factor in the higher retail price, it’s EXTREMELY obvious that Samsung is actually charging for the Samsung Care+, just “folding it into” the retail price. There are a LOT of people who prefer the carrier’s protection plans (prolly because they cost less than what Samsung charges)…and, Samsung KNOWS this. So, their “solution” is to force people into getting Samsung Care+…they just *claim* they’re giving it to buyers for “free”, even though the REALITY is that they’ve tacked it into the selling price, thus they’re not even giving buyers the choice. Sure, buyers can still go with their carriers plans…but, they’re still ‘paying’ for Samsung’s “offering”, which, in reality, is actually being forced on them.

Before I close, let me go back to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Two years ago, Samsung (falsely) convinced people that they will killing off the Note line…and, in a manner of speaking, they were sorta-kinda telling the truth. But, realistically, they weren’t actually killing off the Note…only the “Note” name. Why? Because they can’t have two ‘flagship’ lines. To quote one of my favorite movie lines, “There can be only one.”. The Note had been the ‘flagship’ for many, many years…but, Samsung wanted the Z Fold to be the new ‘flagship’. So, in killing off the Note name, they, in effect, opened the ‘flagship’ position to a new name – Z Fold. Next, to further convince people that the Note line was “dead”, they even made due that they skipped a generation (ie. what would have been a Note 21). Finally, they ‘folded’ (hey ya didn’t see that coming) the ‘Note’ into the ‘S’ line, giving it the “Ultra” surname. As such, the Note DOES still exist. Topping it off, this 6 month-old handset, which costs considerably less then the Z Fold4, not only has (most) hardware specs that are at least equal to those found in the Z Fold4…but, the cameras in the S22 Ultra are FAR superior to those in the Z Fold4. In closing…if you’re still rocking an S22, Z Fold3, Note 20, or anything older, and are looking for a new handset, the Z Fold4 is NOT your “best choice”. Instead, I HIGHLY recommend considering…nay, ‘getting’…the S22 Ultra. Even better, you’ll have a LOT of money left over for other things (case, earbuds, a 7-day cruise, etc). As for my, I’ll happily be getting rid of my Z Fold3 (it’s had too many problems), and relaxing it for the aforementioned S22 Ultra.

    Nothing major, just more “futures”…

Who signed off on that pathetic 5 pro design?
$250 more for what? It’s the exact same watch as the other two, they released one active watch in 3 sizes.
What possessed them to sacrifice both looks AND practicality of the rotating bezel for a flat, impractical black finger bezel when the two base models already have the exact same design?
The pro is only an “active” watch, you can’t wear it out formally like you could with the watch 1, 3 & 4 classic.
I returned my 4 classic and went back to my 3 because of the battery life, i was waiting for the 5, so disappointing and i’ll just have to stick with my 3.

No mention of the speakers being improved or mic. The current speakers suck. Also, hopefully the battery life improves too, currently it’s terrible. I do wish they improved apps, they are worthless compared to the Apple Watch. Although, I will say Apple Watch’s battery life is even worse.

Hi @Epicor, not sure about more productive but it is a more compact device that is protected. I like how it just feels like a wallet on my side pocket. Everywhere I go Iphone users are always in awe and wish they had this option on an iPhone. Hope this helped 🤓

I missed this but something about the presentation seem cohesive. They presented this well. Makes the Samsung devices feel mature as an ecosystem. This is the first time I felt like that from their previous presentations. These were presented like the devices to represent android and pull over apple users. With what Roland did for me recently musically I could switch back. 😃

    • Robb Ryan

      August 11, 2022 at 2:24 am

Understandable…but, just in case you didn’t notice, you should look at what ‘department’ each presenter was from. If you do, you’ll notice that the majority of them are from various marketing departments, or from departments directly connected with marketing departments. Their “job” is to make something…to make ‘everything’…sound as if “it’s the greatest thing ever”, no matter how ‘good’, or ‘bad’, it truly is. A big part of their job is to highlight the things that they know people will be most interested in, to make the ‘mediocre’ things sound much better than they truly are, and to gloss over (or completely ignore, such as the “flex indentation/seam” where the screen folds) the ‘bad’ things.

I’m not, nor am I trying to be, anti-Samsung. I’m a huge proponent of Samsung, having owned every Note since the Note 7, several Samsung tablets, and a few Samsung TVs. Unfortunately, in regards to the Z Fold4, it looks like Samsung purposely ignored the biggest thing people dislike about the Fold/Flip phones. It’s the reason I won’t be upgrading to the Z Fold4, and a big part of the reason I’m “dumping” my Z Fold3 for an S22 Ultra.

The sad truth is, Samsung’s ‘advancements’ have been becoming less & less “advanced”, and that’s a big part of why, within the next few years, if Samsung doesn’t start making bigger advancements, I could see myself switching to another brand…maybe Google.

    • MS TK

      August 11, 2022 at 11:56 am

@Robb Ryan I understand marketing so I’m in part referring to the overall presentation and the actual hardware/software. I’m sure the may be glitches as with every brand I’ve had. Two years ago I switch to apple and was back and forth about them but I understand the draw for some people now having multiple apple products and how they work together. I still get frustrated from a techy standpoint but from everyday life it’s cool when things start to flow more. I used to get frustrated about no YouTube app pip on iPhone but now that google is allowing it I like the fact that I can compare or lookup something in the phone or browser as I did that a lot on android. Samsung oneui and ios are both good in their ways. I used to record myself playing music while still navigating my phone for chords or lyrics. It was somewhat clunky on my note but useable. The fold would make something like this flow more. I checked it out in store and think the crease is something I could probably live with. I’m more into the software experience but want good enough hardware.

In order to save the economy, everyone must go out and buy a $1500 folding phone and sign up for 10 streaming services. Get a $6 coffee every morning in your new ev, throw away all your perfectly good hd tv’s and buy bigger 8k tv’s… that’s really what these companies believe
