Surface Pro 7 review: Hello, old friend 🧙
Dan Harold
May 3, 2023 at 10:13 am
I am looking forward to Elon Musk’s truthful Chat Bot. At least i hope that is what he was talking about.
I use openai and bard side by side.
IMHO
Both try way too hard to be PC.
Both SEEM to have a tendency to attempt to please the person asking the questions.
Both suck at retaining context.
Where no real data exists they effectively make it up.
They equivocate too much.
They seem to choose political sides. It is OK for Russia to invade Ukraine but the US having a base in the Philippines is not.

@Rakiell I have an AI background. My study predates large language models. What do you find dumb about pushing the AI to see where it has bias.

I’ve been testing out Bing and Bard side by side for a few days now. I find Bing to be the clear winner so far. Bard isn’t bad, and I like that it gives you 3 drafts of every answer… but for the most part, Bing just gives better results. (Especially when you set it to creative mode.)
I put them through all kinds of questions from sports, trivia, coding, cooking, weather, current events, how to change a tire, etc. Bard wasn’t bad… but Bing just seemed smarter and better at explaining things, and MUCH better at composing documents. I also like that Bing gives it’s sources as links at the end.
Anyway, both are pretty cool… I just like Bing better. Honestly, the sidebar version of Bing AI is even more useful than the ‘normal’ version. It has more options and can give results based on the webpage you are currently on. Just my $0.02.

I have been using all three heavily for a variety of tasks, and each has its pros and cons. What I like about ChatGPT is its ability to maintain a better conversation thread, allowing me to go back to it anytime, which is very helpful. Bard provides similar answers to ChatGPT, but it’s faster and better outlined. However, it doesn’t keep up with previous responses very well. On the other hand, Bing has fewer features, such as only being able to maintain the conversation up to 20 prompts and being unable to write code or communicate in other languages. Nonetheless, it offers good and up-to-date information on anything. As it uses the browser, it provides sources and can provide solutions more credibly with its updated information.

Bing has been able to write the codes I threw at it. I asked it to make some relatively simple codes in HTML, SAS, and VBA just to see how it would handle them. Bing gave slightly better results than Bard did, in my experience. But yeah, all 3 have their pros and cons.
My main is Bing now… because I really don’t use ChatGPT enough to justify the $20/month fee, and I’m generally not asking for anything too complicated, so either Bing or Bard can generally give me what I need. I also like the Bing sidebar version… because I don’t have to navigate away from the webpage I’m currently on to use it.
It’s all pretty exciting, considering that all 3 will just get better.

Likewise, I prefer BingAI. It has become my go-to search tool. I love the way it answers the questions and search the internet. So much powerful. chatGPT4 is a beast and I was kinda disappointed by Bard. It’s ok but not as good coming from the company that created transformers which is the basis of all AI technologies right now. You would expect better right?

I use Bard & the free version of ChatGPT for editing my writing, ideas for travel or gifts, or writing social media posts for my business. So far, ChatGPT wins hands down & Bard generates pretty basic responses. Based on this video, I will try Bing & hope it’s AI is better than it’s search engine.

Bing constantly cutting off the chat session the moment that you pushed back on what it told you (even it it was wrong) pretty much destroys it’s usefulness and credibility. One time I told it that it wasn’t doing a very good job at generating code and provided it with a working snippet and it told me that it didn’t like my attitude and told me to change the subject. That is not customer friendly and shows that it is not open to learning when it goes wrong. It also gives a creepy feeling of AI superiority.

I hope they give us a setting in the future for the “human like responses” where you see the AI type out the message. I have the completely opposite opinion & prefer Bard’s approach. It gives me all the text much faster & it can be hard for me to read what chatGPT/bing are saying while they are typing out the responses.

I think you missed the point a bit on the s’mores recipe question. Bing probably suspected that you’re very likely at home and not in the wilderness if you’re using an AI platform, which is probably why they suggested a at-home recipe of the dish.

I’ve used Bard and Bing, not ChatGPT since gpt4 ain’t free. I prefer Bing because of the more accurate and smarter answers, sources, and typewriter-paced responses. I haven’t used Open-assistant or other open-source LLMs, but hopefully, they’re big enough to compete. Local models require too much technical know-how to set up, so I’ll wait for a (dot)MSI or EXE file, lol.

I also did a classic google search for the smores thing, and that beats any bot because I know that the answers are given by humans and I can see the source immediately, such as wikipedia, not to mention pictures etc. I just wouldn’t trust a bot. When you obsess about a topic, like smores, you will prefer to read the sources directly, rather than trust a bot.

I downloaded bing and got ride of google. I like bing, never thought I’d say that lol. Actually I was using safari on Apple phone which uses google. Bing is pretty cool search engine for my phone (which is all I use) But chatgpt is king, however I only got the free version. I’m sure paid is better.
I just asked chatgpt
You are a monkey who speaks in monkey language to a cat who speaks cat language. Write a dialog between the two about the importance of space burgers.
Chatgpt:
Monkey: Ooh ooh, aah aah! Hello, cat! Do you know about space burgers?
Cat: Meow, what are space burgers?
Monkey: Space burgers are burgers that astronauts eat when they go to space! They’re very important for their survival and they taste so good!
Cat: Meow, why are they important for their survival?
Monkey: Ooh ooh, because they provide all the necessary nutrients that astronauts need to stay healthy in space! They are specially designed to withstand the unique challenges of space travel, like zero gravity and radiation.
Cat: Meow, I see. But why should we care about space burgers? We’re not astronauts.
Monkey: Ooh ooh, that’s true, but space burgers also have benefits for us here on Earth! They can help us learn about new technologies and scientific advancements that can improve our food and our lives.
Cat: Meow, that’s interesting. But where can we get space burgers?
Monkey: Ooh ooh, unfortunately, space burgers aren’t available for regular consumption yet. But we can still appreciate their importance and look forward to a future where they may become more accessible!
Cat: Meow, I understand. Thank you for sharing with me about space burgers, monkey.
Monkey: Ooh ooh, no problem! Anytime, cat!
