IDK probably the boomer in me but if I pay $800 for a watch I will prob get a mechanical one that I can pass down. Question for the chat: How are the first gen watches? Do these watches get slow and unbearable after 4 years like phones?

September 8, 2022 at 1:18 am
most of the older generation batteries aren’t great, not slow. smartwatches were never intended to have absurd power, they just need to be power efficient while giving the information needed to users like health or exercise data. A mechanical watch is great as jewelry to hold on to.

They do. I had my Zenwatch 3 for 5 years and it still is the nicest looking smart watch I’ve owned, but man was it slow compared to watches now, not to mention the screen burn. I’ve had an Apple watch series 5 gold and now I have the Galaxy watch 5 pro titanium and absolutely love it. The Apple watches are OK, but they just don’t look good at all imo and I hated the UI. I had a matching gold Apple band on mine and still, it was just ok, nothing special. Nothing holds a candle to that classic look, again, imo. I have some older mechanical watches and wear them on rare occasions, but they just need too much maintenance, which I don’t have the time for at this point. One day though, I’m sure I’ll be breaking those out.

An $800 mechanical watch is worthless as an heirloom, you need to spend a lot more otherwise you just spent $800 for something that going to be worth maybe $200 later on.

The only reason you spent $800 on the Apple Watch Ultra is because you love “big” watches? That’s all it took, huh?

Have you seen the prices of the watch and iPhones in the UK? $1099 for the pro max iPhone in the US but almost $1400 in the UK. What is this nonsense?

This watch is ridiculously overpriced samsung has the galaxy watch 5 pro witch has the same features and durability for only 450 and since the galaxy watch 5 pro ain’t from Apple don’t mean it ain’t good people need to get that out of there head

A lot of people probably going to buy the ultra even though you can just use a spigen or other rugged case and all apple watches S5 and latter have the low power mode thingie.

The battery life is a joke. I get weeks of use out of my Garmin Forerunner 935, and that is not even their top of the line watch with solar charging. Apple needs to figure out their battery issue. Nobody needs another device to charge every night (or in this case every 1.5 nights).
McGee_Tradez
September 8, 2022 at 9:48 pm
There is no battery issue. Apple is a smart watch that tracks and provides a huge amount of data for your disposal right on your wrist. Garmin watches simply don’t pull the power a Apple Watch does because they aren’t so much a smart watch as they are an endurance athlete watch. If Garmin attempted to make a smart watch that was the same size of Apple Watch with the exact amount of features I assure you Garmin could maybe pull off a watch with Similar battery life to earlier versions of Apple Watch. If you think a company like Apple isn’t using every trick they can to maximize battery life with the latest technology and a focus to keep size reasonable and price reasonable then your just confused on how much more information an Apple Watch is constantly pulling them a Garmin Watch.

he did not mention the part with the new sapphire glass, so if you’re wearing that Apple watch with one too many visible scratches on it, now is another reason to spend another 800+ USDs. – Plus, it already had me at titanium case.

The battery life and screen brightness make this very tempting. I’ve got smaller wrists though 😕 so I’ll have to wait until I can check it out in person

I will look forward to purchasing one of the ultra’s in a few years time. When I can afford a good used one for a quarter of the price. For now I will keep my Apple watch 5.

Haha, Ultra… And then Samsung is copying apple right? 🤣
Anyway, straight to the point… $799.99 for a smart watch… Why in the world is Apple selling a Watch for the same price as a smartphone?!

Nice as the Ultra is, for me it would be an overkill with its extra features. I spend a lot of time outdoors walking, but the standard Apple Watch gives me all the features/info I need as I’m not a super hardcore hiker, and I don’t scuba dive. Also I have a very thin wrist and the Ultra would engulf the whole top of my wrist and look way too big. The Ultra is going to be a fantastic watch for someone that’s for sure.
