The best part of Apple TV is no ads baked into the UI

Those other TV boxes collect your information and sell it. And you compare a tv box to a console? Seriously?

  5. Tones Lotohnz

Reviewers keep glossing over the reasons the Apple TV 4K cost more than a $50 streaming stick: gaming ( no not console level, but then it doesn’t cost $300 either…), HomeKit integration, Apple Music lossless streaming, Spatial Audio support, Dolby Atmos, Airplay from a Mac, Health app integration, a fast, reliable interface, and NO ADS. I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting. But is anyone getting any of that from a $50 streaming stick, much less ALL of it? I seriously doubt it.

No mention of the Apple Ecosystem, seamless connection with Airpods. Airplay. Instead comparing it with consoles. What a great pointless review.

Too bad Apple’s interface just plain sucks.

    • Rahul Sharma

      November 9, 2022 at 1:20 am

@Deman !9904 it’s the best interface. Clean and simple. Every other streaming device have cluttered and messy interface. You will need to use it to understand how amazing it feels. But on the other hand this is subjective, everyone has there own preferences.

I think people are starting to value privacy and ad-free experiences more than you give them credit for. Sure Roku and Fire TV devices are significantly cheaper, but that comes at a steep cost for privacy and usability. I wish Amazon offered some sort of buyout option to use Fire TVs without ads similar to the option on Kindle devices. With the Apple TV I don’t even have to think about ads unless I don’t fork over for ad-free streaming services, which I gladly do.

winner winner chhicken dinner. and apple just feels more premium. most people use thhe remote and interface a lot, so it makes sense to get a premium experience for many.

Every update brings new issues. This is the thing Microsoft with Windows use to be famous for, but now it’s what Apple is notorious for with any if their equipment.

    November 8, 2022 at 11:04 pm

Totally agree with most of the comments regarding the Apple TV comparison to gaming devices, not what people buy Apple TV for. I tried the rest of the devices for my 8 yr old 1080p TV and Apple TV made my TV new again! It’s worth the price versus shelling out for a new 55” for our bedroom. Another bonus is being able to watch Ted Lasso!!

Some streaming boxes do not age well. They cheap out on the processor. Nvidia shield is worked but recently it has been buggy. Through recent software update, it has performed better. I used to have to hit the reset button because the shield did not respond. That issue has been fixed. But one if my favorite features of the shield is bluetooth support. Private listening and portable bluetooth speaker support. But apple believes in long term support to which is why they put a powerful processor. To a extent we have become used to instant responses but we have come far from the 1st roku. It is not bad like it used to be. Maybe part of us need to learn to be more patient lol

I think I paid $199 to replace my roku 4k box…. That was like $70?

Roku app was problematic. Always lost connection to wifi. The box was slow to open and load… to me, worth the upgrade. And now at $129 I would get it as a gift

As someone who have the Google TV, I will consider to switch. Google streamer is crushing and restarting at least once a week. A few days ago I have to reset to factory setting and when signed in still need to download all the apps and setup from the beginning. I am sure you are getting much stronger and reliable streamer from Apple

The volume of your review is too low and you talk too fast. No idea what you are saying most of the time. Also, I’m not interested in the Fire or Roku because I want an ethernet port and I have absolutely no interest in gaming.

You get what you pay for. Newer streaming sticks stop working a lot sooner than what apple offers.

I got Apple tv+ for 1 month, purely for Ted Lasso & The Morning Show. Brilliant. Worth every penny. The Selena Gomez doc was great too. Never heard any of her music before, but had watched Only Murder’s in the Building (Disney+) and loved that – turns out she’s a top chick no doubt. Highly recommend. It has very high quality shows … for 1 month. But that’s it. l think every streaming service needs to focus on creating continuous program quality over time. The tech is merely the postman of the service. And the fact is, most people just don’t need to be delivered a product in 4K. That is not where the ‘quality’ lies. P.S. the website needs a little work: it’s not clear at all how to skip the ‘next episode’ roll into (click to the lower left of the next episode window), which is really annoying; it’s difficult to go to a series synopsis without starting the ‘next episode’ instead, which is really annoying. Basically what Apple have perceived as a simplified UI … is REALLY REALLY annoying. Because it isn’t at all. The customer experience needs a lot of work imo, well before 4K delivery. The content is brilliant, but limited. But then you could sum up the entire Apple product range in the same sentence.

  42. Matt Howell

    November 12, 2022 at 5:16 am

Apple has not made a compelling case for me to buy one. I can get all my streaming services directly through my smart TV. I see no reason to shell out $150 for a TV box that duplicates features I already have.
