Louise Mabulo grew up on seemingly strange farming tips from her parents and grandparents — like planting crops during a full moon or burying a rock beneath them. Now a farmer and climate activist herself, she sees how these practical nuggets of wisdom actually have scientific merit. Learn how she’s merging traditional knowledge with modern science to help farmers (and the world) adapt to a changing climate.

Countdown is TED’s global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at

Nuclear energy is the solution to climate catastrophe.
It is a pity that Green party made so much damage to the environment by going after nuclear power ….. 🙁

“Putting more carbon into soil than we take from it” ….. ?
Do you really think that carbon is coming “from the soil” …… ?

      May 6, 2024 at 2:51 pm

Carbon is sequestered in everything that grows from the ground. Which we kill for all kinds of reasons. Even if it’s not burned, they no longer scrub carbon from the atmosphere when dead.

    • @kinglewisjtl24

      May 6, 2024 at 3:12 pm

Please research carbon capture banks- it is big business today and many with land get tax rebates for the amount of carbon sequestered vs developing land in a way that would release and increase the amount of carbon

    • @jonmccroskey927

Plants pull CO2 out of the air kick out new oxygen and keep the carbon. Part of what they do with that carbon is exchange it with mycelium (fungi root systems basically) for nutrients. The mycelium is great at creating “nodes” and deposits of carbon that stay in the ground for many many years, or until disturbed. The term Agro-Forestry is farming with this concept at the forefront, among many other concepts of importance. 🌲

@@jonmccroskey927 OMG …. you do realize that the volume of trees above the ground is much larger than the volume of the fungi, right …. ?

@@AbbyNon It’s probably close to equal, besides the point, and no, obviously nobody knows that.

    • @kinglewisjtl24

Im grateful to see how this message that resonates with me could push others away- perhaps you have no ancestral heritage that worked with the land, maybe your line came from a portal or maybe underneath the ground?

  6. @kinglewisjtl24

    May 6, 2024 at 3:14 pm

I see many comments that this message doesn’t resonate with. I challenge you, before you leave a quick comment about your grandparents working in the fossil fuel industry- to look back to your ancestral heritage that lived in communion with the land, and discover wisdom in traditions there.

Let’s be clear here. The earth needs CO2 to survive. Without it all life on earth would die out. Therefore there is no climate crisis. Any increase in CO2 is beneficial to the planet, not detrimental. There is no climate crisis!

The answer is putting your faith in Jesus Christ, because He alone can save you from destruction.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

If Humans really want to save this earth, the only solution is to lower our standard of living. Funny thing about us humans is that most of us wanted a luxurious life. But this luxurious life of our is the main cause of all this pollution and climate change.

  34. @daviddavids2884

    May 8, 2024 at 11:58 am

bla-bla-bla global climate change is not driven by human-caused air pollution. it is driven by Natural factors, that are cyclic/periodic in nature.
said another way, the global climate would be changing Now, even if humans had never been around.
corollary: there is NOTHING that humans can do to alter the factors that Actually drive global climate change. see the ongoing decline in the strength of earth’s magnetosphere.

Ancient wisdom from yesterday will do just fine. No need to reinvient the wheel of common sense. USE LESS fossil fuels, PERIOD.
