A handy feature would be for the AirTag to notify you, when you left the item (which has the AirTag on/in) when you were a short distance away.

For example, if you left your bag in a restaurant, and the AirTag would send an alert to your iPhone to tell you the bag had been left. Or, if travelling on a train, and you left a bag on the train, you could be notified before leaving the train. This kind of loss prevention feature would be extremely useful.

I’m sure I have read of this feature been on other similar tags. It’s a big feature omission in my opinion that the AirTag doesn’t have this feature, especially when other similar tags have it.

imagine a thief stealing something and his iPhone is busy sending the location of the airtag that’s in the stolen item

  4. Mason 美生

    April 22, 2021 at 10:03 pm

Major flaw: thieves with iPhones will get notified that your purse has an air tag in it so they will know to look for it to toss out.

    • wetti

      April 22, 2021 at 11:02 pm

Also anyone without an iphone can be tracked by one of these because they won’t get the notification that it’s travelling with them… scary stuff

@wetti Apple low key scaring people into buying iPhones.

    • Awesm Films

      April 23, 2021 at 1:04 am

@wetti the air tag will automatically play a sound a couple of days after being separated from the owner so even non iPhone users will know that there’s an AirTag nearby

What a joke, I would stick this in my child’s back pack, Wife would hid it in her purse and in my case I would put it in my bikes, cars and on my trailers etc. So if those items get stolen I can track them down. But the air tag starts to beep to let people know it is there. Now all the thief needs to do is find the air tag and toss it and I can no longer track my child’s back pack, my my bike or my wife can not track her purse is they is stolen.

  13. Jeremy Henderson

    April 22, 2021 at 11:16 pm

I think it’s dumb to allow strangers to turn it off. 50% of the reason would want this, is if somebody steals my bag at an amusement part. Then I would be able to find them and get it back before they are able to exit the park and get away.

The way I understand it, is if they steal my bag and don’t know the tag is in there, so that I can track them to get it back. Their iPhone will notify them it’s in my stolen bag and allow them to turn it off?!?!

Can you use it to locate a car?

  58. JustMake IT

    April 24, 2021 at 6:20 pm

Only reason Apple are letting you change the battery 🔋 is so they can steal “Tiles” custom.

I’d give Apple until their 2nd or 3rd Generation of these trackers until they’re factory sealed and have to go to a Genius Bar to replace. Then come the subscriptions etc… etc… 😂

  59. Ken Ngo

    April 24, 2021 at 7:02 pm

Correction: Apple can’t track you…[Until they enable the tick box that enables human tracking]. Enable/Disable is a software feature, and Apple probably already knows how to make more money from this (as a future “feature”).

  60. starling fowler

    April 24, 2021 at 7:33 pm

All the cheating spouses that will be caught by this device . It can be hidden anywhere. Lmao

Precision finding is good, i just reordered because it’s apple…. however, i don’t love the faint sound alert, i even hate it when finding lost AirPods … i do love tiles song so much better

  68. rubenrar1

    April 24, 2021 at 11:19 pm

I like tile because it doesn’t show the thief if you’re rich or poor, so if it was a real seamless product made by Apple, then they wouldn’t put the logo on it.

  69. rubenrar1

    April 24, 2021 at 11:21 pm

Apple take the logo off the product you idiot!!! Don’t advertise towards thief’s.

    Isn’t it possible?

  71. gb997

    April 24, 2021 at 11:52 pm

i feel like Apple should do a commercial for AirTags mocking the old Mentos commercials from the 90’s 😂

  72. Sir Prancealott

    April 25, 2021 at 12:03 am

Haha so if you’re on Android you now have to buy an iPhone to guard against wifey planting an airtag on you?! Hats off to Apple! Hello increased market share!! Brilliant!!!

  73. Don Day

    April 25, 2021 at 12:40 am

  74. nternalPractice

    April 25, 2021 at 1:07 am

If you get pinged when someone puts an AirTag on you (to track you) doesn’t that mean a thief will get pinged/alerted if he tries to steal something that has an AirTag hidden on it (allowing him to find, remove and discard it)?

    TEST suggestions:
    — Test how well it does in Swimming Pool (e.g. you forgot it was in your swimwear pocket and dove into the pool) .. this tests not only water, but chlorine resilience too
    — Drop on floor from various common heights
    — Leave it in a hot car (e.g. Texas summer heat 100+ degrees; In pocket or on equipment used in a steel mill factory where its super hot)
    — Magnets of various strengths from credit card strips to standing close to an un-shielded tall tower home theater speaker
    — Freeze test (e.g. extreme winter sub zero temps .. such as what happened in Texas last year bursting pipes)
    — High humidity climate

I’m guessing it holds up pretty well to all these.

  79. Doug W

With the huge increase in dog theft in the UK I was hoping to put one of these in our dogs harness, but sadly reading the reviews if the their had a compatible device it would notify the thief that it was there. Only useful if that feature can be turned off by user.
