MARK GURMAN BLOOMBERG NEWS IS ONE :-
ALL IN ONE IS ONE :-
The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was the world’s first programmable, electronic, general-purpose digital computer, completed in 1945 and publicly announced in February 1946.
The original programmers of the ENIAC were six female mathematicians recruited by the U.S. Army during World War II. Initially hired as “human computers” to calculate ballistics trajectories by hand, they were selected in 1945 to bring the world’s first general-purpose electronic computer to life.
The “ENIAC Six”
• Kathleen McNulty Mauchly Antonelli:
Developed early uses of subroutines to expand the computer’s structural capabilities.
• Frances Bilas Spence:
Expertly managed the hardware’s main control panels and multi-unit configurations.
• Frances “Betty” Snyder Holberton:
Created the first generative programming system (SORT/MERGE) and went on to help design the prototype instruction codes for UNIVAC.
• Marlyn Wescoff Meltzer:
Specialized in mapping calculations onto the physical machinery using the initial logic diagrams.
• Frances “Jean” Jennings Bartik:
Led the team that converted ENIAC into a stored-program machine and later pioneered early computer memory systems.
• Ruth Lichterman Teitelbaum:
Handled the physical data flow scaling and calculated some of the first complex trajectories on the machine.
