I bet this will edit Video in 8k (using Proxies) along with some local AI models…on top of Daily Driving tasks, easily. Processor and resource intensive stuff will run but you might have to take one or two more sips of coffee while you wait….OMG !

I would have been enticed by it if not for 8GB max limit. I’m guessing NEO 2 in a few years will have a higher RAM option with a newer A-series chip and (hopefully) a better RAM market. So NEO 2 it is, for me at least.

in 2010 I bought a “high-end” laptop for the same price. It had a 1.6ghz Core2Duo and 4gb of RAM. Crazy how far we’ve come.

It used to feel like Apple forced you to buy the expensive stuff, and even then you never really used its full capability. This time it feels like people who want a Mac finally have more options.

    BTW, you are so pretty.😊

  18. @PhantasusRex

    March 6, 2026 at 7:18 pm

That the base IPad Air starts only with 128GB of storage and a 60hz screen is “so Apple”. They could have easily doubled the base storage to 256GB and the refresh rate to 120hz to make it great overall product but if they would have done that the next years IPad Air wouldnt have a lot of new benefits to offer so less people would be tempted to upgrade…..

It’s still heavy, the old MacBook 2015-2018 models used to be less than 1 kg. MBA is still 1.24 kg like Neo so Apple should make one ultimate travel device.

  23. @JenSch87

    March 6, 2026 at 8:24 pm

The Neo surely is not the Macbook for everyone, in education it might be but for the average consumer the air is still the best recommendation if you want something that will last for years. A last gen phone chip and no words on the keyboard experience, battery life, display quality and sound. Hard to recommend so far. But if you are more about the show and not facts surely one would recommend this one. Bad customer advice in my oppinion, seems like she doesnt know a lot about tech and a bad choice from cnet to let her present the new products

  31. @abc123fhdi

    March 7, 2026 at 12:38 pm

What makes her think it’ll be the most popular, just because of the price? Is the cheapest iphone the most popular? It appears the pro is the most popular. Not everyone wants slow USB ports and no backlit keyboard, some may be returning the device for this reason and it could flop until they have thunderbolt and backlit keyboard in next year’s model. Better off getting a renewed M1 Air on Amazon for the same price.

It’s more likely that they’ll grow into the product line, if you get them while they’re young & impressionable🤓
Smart decision from a business💰perspective; sure to stir up the industry👍

    March 7, 2026 at 6:54 pm

thanks for the frothy ad. Hope apple’s covering your salary. On some of the other sites that actually cover tech, it’s pretty clear that the Neo is a genuine industry disruptor. With that and the mini, there’s really no reason to buy a non-touchscreen windows machine- unless you’re in the niche of overpriced, heavy duty game machines.

  47. @Jackamo6200

    When ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CHANGED
Apple has better laptops for the same price
    Rather get an M2 Air
Which is way better in every way
Don’t tell me crap about single core speed
    Nobody cares about that
They’re fast enough for whoever is looking at an Air or Neo

it feels a bit sexist to not bring the pink out in the air or pro like girls aren’t smart or something. we have been asking them for years for this so it is bitter sweet that they’ve done this. i would like to wait for them to change their mind and add a pink to the airs very soon maybe with a couple more colours but i’m not holding my breath cos you know the pattern says that is unlikely to happen!.

  53. @Lovejoy-v1e

    March 8, 2026 at 6:32 am

It’s crazy- they found a way to put in a 1080p camera without a notch and the bezels seems narrow to me! Gotta love that Apple just doesn’t try on certain products and make an effort on other things.

  76. @Silvervinge72

    March 9, 2026 at 3:05 am

What struck me here is not the product itself. Apple doing Apple things is nothing new. They release a new model, position it neatly in the lineup, and present it as the perfect entry point into the ecosystem. That is standard Apple strategy.

What is strange is the tone from CNET.

CNET used to be one of the outlets that actually compared products and asked basic questions about value, limitations and alternatives. This video feels more like marketing wrapped in tech journalism.

Take the “starter computer” narrative. Starter for who exactly? A machine that will almost certainly cost far more than a Chromebook and many Windows laptops, while still shipping with minimal RAM and storage in the base configuration. Calling it a “budget Mac” without seriously discussing what you get for the money is odd for a tech publication that is supposed to help people make informed choices.

Then there is the framing of an “iPhone processor” in a laptop as something exciting. A more natural question would be how that chip compares to other laptop processors in the same price range, and what happens when workloads get heavier. Instead it is presented almost as a charming design choice.

The RAM point is another example. Saying the Neo has as much memory as a 2020 MacBook Air is treated as neutral, almost positive. But 2020 was five years ago. On a laptop released today, that should raise questions about longevity and real world usability.

    None of those questions appear.

What you get instead is a quick tour of several Apple products that ends with the familiar message that Apple now has something for everyone. That line sounds almost identical to what you hear in Apple’s own presentations.

And that is the uncomfortable part. When coverage of a new Apple product sounds nearly the same as Apple’s own messaging, it raises a simple question.

Where exactly is the line between tech journalism and promotion?
