How to Stop AI from Killing Your Critical Thinking | Advait Sarkar | TED
Chatbots might help you get work done faster — but at what cost? When we outsource our reasoning to artificial intelligence, we reduce ourselves to “middle managers for our own thoughts,” says AI and design researcher Advait Sarkar. He examines the cognitive trade-offs of using AI at work and introduces a different kind of tool:…

All of this is just basically saying, “HERE IS ANOTHER ARTIFICIAL way of USING YOUR INTELLECT to click on “bubbles of choices” to take you to “sliders of determination”, which IF A HUMAN WAS TAUGHT HOW TO READ-WRITE-CRITICAL THINKING ANALYSIS, then all this EXTRA INPUTING INTO AI is NO LONGER an actual “time saver”, but JUST ANOTHER WAY TO GET SPECIFIC WAYS of OUTPUTTING WORDS- NONE OF WHICH IS ACTUAL PERSONALIZED THINKING- IT IS “PRE-PARED THINKING” by whatever AI application company wants to push individuals into “being a performative animal” for their “personal” cause towards adverting diversity, formulating individualism, & data-setting your ideas to conform within their limited maxim or politicalized addendums DEEPLY EMBEDDED IN THEIR CODING.
Sounds like a bunch of BS, to get you to “think” you are STILL BEING ABLE TO CRITICALLY THINK within the “new & improved version, with MORE REGULATED INPUTS for you to scale within THEIR NARRATIVE” with using A.I., it is rather a silly AI AD underneath all his talk.
I STILL SAY BOYCOTT AI.
At WHAT RESOURCE CONSUMPTION will all of these further “bubble/slider” AI INPUTING COST OUR ABILITY TO HAVE HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
Do NOT be-live this hype, KEEP YOUR BRAIN OFF-GRID! Fly intelligently as a SOLOIST! Confirm your quality education was worthy of not just teaching Plato, Darwin, Poe, Wilde, Einstein, etc. but CREATING thinkers that can EXPAND themselves, their peers, & future generations of LIVING THINKING HUMAN BEINGS!

Perhaps the greatest opportunity in future AI will be to detect the products of AI.
This will be similar to how we need lawyers to protect us from lawyers.
Side note: even without AI, copy-paste “engineering” is already a plague upon the land.

It is a good step forward, but I argue that this tool still won’t advance critical thinking. A tool disguised as a Socratic gadfly may aid in critical thinking, but doesn’t necessarily promote critical thinking. There is something profoundly insightful in coming up with those alternate viewpoints all by oneself through a slow and painstaking process of self-contemplation. The ability to establish connections across knowledge domains and put “2 and 2 together” by oneself is always a fruitful exercise that is crucial for brain development.

The solution is to it off or pay no attention to it.
I don’t like AI, I don’t trust AI and really AI can fark off and leave me the fark alone.
Also, what if AI is wrong? Many instances it’s already happened.
Oh, and don’t forget AI telling people to kill themselves. Such great technology………………………………..NOT!!!

This is a fantastic and powerful talk. I think we must work to allow our education systems to be malleable to this way of making AI a tool or calculator for thought and quickly adapt to the changes that it has brought to the thinking process.

AI can’t kill something that doesn’t exist in the first place. IMO everyone having critical thinking/common sense would take LLMs output with a grain of salt (and re-check it afterwards when needed or even do a research themselves) 🤷🏻♂

On a flight from Tokyo to Chicago I sat next to a woman who manages portfolios for ultra-wealthy families. She wasn’t bragging, just explaining how people misunderstand “wealth.” Before we landed she asked if I read Power Behind The Curtain by Dave Rumsfeld. I hadn’t. I ordered it the same night. The part about silent power structures hit me harder than any business course I ever took.

I had a realization recently that felt uncomfortable at first. Confidence isn’t dominance or being better than others, it’s the absence of insecurity. Power Behind The Curtain by Dave Rumsfeld explains why elites operate this way. No noise, no comparison, no need for validation. It also made me understand why most people stay trapped in self-doubt. This isn’t knowledge they want spread around.

Nonsense presentation of obvious ideas as if a new finding. AI is not a problem, puppet like this who forces public to use AI in a certain manner as if it’s inevitable is the problem.
You can never motivate a crowd a to perform research.

An interesting angle for using AI in a co-creative way,
but it’s boring, sure people think more, but why would they do this over the easier Input documents and have AI create a report?
This method is dependent of intrinsic value. Which means some people will adapt quickly, but most will try to skirt around it for easier options
