   I recommend iPhone to most people that just want to *use* a phone with a few apps, as theres no technical issues and everything just works due to the locked down operating system. But for those who want *control* over the phone, data, apps with unlimited customisations then its android. The issues you just showed tells me you are a user of a phone. Stay with apple eco. You’ll stay happy and that all anyone ever wants to be.

   Also don’t believe any sales pitch promises. Research and get real workd results. There is always pain with change.

   Apple makes it intentionally difficult and also in other areas. Ex: U can’t transfer by bluetooth from Windows to and iPhone or backwards. And did u enable RTS messages in Google Msgs?

   This is such a great example of what can go wrong and why details matter. Interesting to learn what is in place but also how it doesn’t work. Losing the metadata would be infuriating – how is this possible with modern database tools?

   all of the problems between iPhone <> android messaging is on the iPhone side.
   past few years google/android pushed hard to get apple/iphone to switch to RCS which would add alot of features, fixes, upgrades to messaging for both android & iphone.
   but apple choose not too & only upgrade iphone messaging making blue bubble for iphones, & downgrading to mms green bubble for android.
   therefor the blue bubble cult continues.

   i think they did add an RCS option hidden deep in the settings but not on by default & everyone cant turn it on, seems limited to newer phones. & still seems limited version of it.

   i am team samsung so perhaps most of these probems are moto specific but would have to check.

   group chat thing used to have problems with is in the past. but it seems fixed now. half of my fam has iphone the other android. & no chats splitting chats

   When I switched from Android to iPhone I did the transfer manually, it took a while but it’s more reliable, of course I lost the apps I purchased on play store, but it was totally worth it for me.
   Also, most of the world use WhatsApp these days.

   Oh my! As a tech, I often help family and friends with their phones. iPhone help is almost always a breeze; Androids… almost always a nightmare.

   I hope you backed up your stuff — and I’m glad you’re considering a return to iPhone. Also, saying that iPhones have become boring on CNET was flippin’-awesome! Perhaps Apple finally gets the message?

   (I suspect Apple might add something foldable next year — their ultra-thin model this year is, after all, half the recipe for such a device.)

   Lastly, just an observation: that pixie haircut you had in the photo really worked for you, just sayin’. 👍

    The ignorance in the comments is exactly why Apple has the control it does. A video like this from CNET is disappointing because you would figure they would know better as to why this is the experience.

    Since moving from Blackberry to Android in like 2012. I never bought in Apple iPhone I’m so glad. I can’t still can’t get Google to learn my shortcuts on when I walk home and want an Eta off by 3 minutes.I love Google search for answers.

    The messages are date stamped 1969 bc of your iPhone 12. iPhone 14 and up transfer tools are newer that is more robust. All of your messages and data are up to date. My mother has an iPhone 11 and had the same issue transferring to the Google Pixel 10 pro. What i did was a factory reset on my iPhone 14 and restored all of her data on it then I transferred all of her data on the Google Pixel 10 with no issues.

    I did the opposite. After 14 years of Android, I switched to iPhone and love it. Apps are more stable, and I love iOS, especially now that it’s iOS 26 with Liquid Glass. I am also the opposite, as 95% of my friends and family are on Android, and I have no messaging problems. I recently upgraded to a new iPhone and everything transferred over seamlessly in just minutes. I also switched to a MacBook Pro after 35 years of Windows PCs and Laptops. I love how all of my Apple devices work together. Getting my messages and phone calls on my MacBook if my iPhone is in the other room. AirDropping files, pictures, copying something on one device, and pasting it on another. I can’t imagine going back to the mess of Android and Windows…..

    I’m someone who exclusively uses small iPhones… so I end up buying a new iPhone like once every 6 years…

    I don’t love Apple as a brand, but I think I’m going to stick with iPhone since I’ve been using it for like 15 years now.
