it was hard for me to separate the lesson from the story ! I mean linguistically, the talk is a bit complex for someone who’s not speaking native english. Why isn’t TED asking their presenters to speak in easy language – something that a 10 years old would fully understand ?

Cate Hall used to reply to a lot of my replies to her tweets. Then she slid into my DMs in July 2018. I have what I think is an open mind. This made me believe the slightly crazier and more delusional things that Cate Hall was saying in replies and DMs at the height of her addiction to psychedelics.

In a post on her blog, she gives her own version of how she processed all of this in these last 4.5 years…..and describes the very seemingly okay plan executed by her husband whom she’s still hyping up as an “incredible man”, was to use his “friend Govind” to illegally embark on a reciprocal stalking campaign, by bribing law enforcement officials in jurisdictions she had no business talking to except through proper channels, then getting her country’s consulate to file a criminal complaint about the messages I sent her. I have no idea what the “fake kidnapping” and number spoofing was all about or who was behind it.

Cate Hall used to reply to a lot of my replies to her tweets (she’s a pretty open person now, but she used to be even more open), and like a fair number of my replies too when she was playing poker, several months before her drug habit went out of her control. Money is only useful as a tool to negotiate with other people to gain permission…To gain things, have experiences, etc.

That said money determines our ability to reliably negotiate for things we need, even when we don’t have the social skills or social backing to negotiate for your needs otherwise.

So…Focus on connections. Focus on giving people what they need that can be given for free, give them a sense of recognition, validation and help them connect with others.

Master that skill, giving people what they need. That how you become the type of person people will see value in.

    Wtf is agency?

    • @markgonsalves

      August 30, 2025 at 11:52 am

“Agency of life” refers to your ability and feeling of being in control of your life, making choices, and taking action to influence its course and outcomes. It encompasses the power to set goals, pursue desires, and act autonomously to achieve them, even in the face of obstacles. This sense of personal power or control is crucial for psychological stability, growth, and for making a difference in your own life and the lives of others.

    what is personal agency means?

    • @iambasiljoy

      August 31, 2025 at 1:19 pm

chat GPT : “Personal agency” means the ability of a person to act independently, make choices, and influence their own life and environment.

It’s about feeling in control of your actions and believing that what you do can make a difference.

      In simple words:

If you have personal agency, you believe “I can decide, I can act, and my actions matter.”

Without it, you might feel “Things just happen to me, I have no control.”

      It combines three main ideas:

Choice – you can decide what to do.

Action – you can carry out those decisions.

Impact – your actions affect outcomes.

      👉 Example:

A student with strong personal agency thinks, “If I study every day, I can improve my grades.”

A student without personal agency thinks, “No matter what I do, my grades won’t change.”

Do you want me to also explain the difference between personal agency and free will (they sound similar but aren’t the same)?

    • @philwelling7172

      August 31, 2025 at 3:18 pm

Agency is the capacity to make choices, take actions, and exert control over your life and circumstances. It’s about having the power to shape your own path through decisions, initiative, and responsibility, rather than being passively shaped by external forces. It involves:

Self-awareness: Understanding your values, goals, and desires.
Decision-making: Choosing actions based on your judgment.
Proactivity: Taking steps to influence outcomes, rather than reacting to events.
Responsibility: Owning the consequences of your choices.

For example, someone with strong agency might decide to change careers by actively learning new skills and networking, rather than staying in an unfulfilling job due to fear or inertia. Agency is often tied to personal empowerment and can be limited by external factors like societal constraints or internal ones like self-doubt, but it’s fundamentally about exercising your ability to act intentionally.
