It’s going to be difficult to use anti-trust against Google and Facebook since they don’t charge users anything, so it’s difficult to prove free is artificially increasing cost to consumers. Apple and Amazon are a little different, but without any real will to do anything about it, it’s unlikely to go anywhere either.

Well simply said, these companies are so rich, they can afford the best attorneys and keep up the legal fight indefinitely, the us state and eu will run out of money before those companies do

Tech CEOs? He is none other than Mr. Sundar Pichai. You should have some respect for this man and to write his name too… The platform you are using called YouTube, he runs that. He is an Indian and he made our country proud.

    • Ravi Teja KNTS

      July 24, 2020 at 5:23 pm

This is not a good place to show that. Sundar is respected and I guess mentioning that in this video is also not something you need to feel proud of.

    • Asli Mayank Sharma

      July 24, 2020 at 5:30 pm

@Ravi Teja KNTS But they are being racist of not mentioning his name… They have mentioned american tycoons name but not Mr. Sundar… What I think right I will speak, you are no one to tell me at what place or podium I should speak in…

So is it that Microsoft got away or they don’t have any control? 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • Blood Angel

      July 24, 2020 at 4:18 pm

All web browsers are free now, so they stopped wasting their time on that one.

    • Ravi Teja KNTS

      July 24, 2020 at 5:21 pm

They don’t control as much as these companies and they have changed a lot in recent years.

    • 308snipa

      July 24, 2020 at 5:45 pm

Was thinking to have 90% of the PC market would have been something the congress would likely consider.

    • Ravi Teja KNTS

      July 24, 2020 at 5:58 pm

@308snipa the antitrust is not about being big, its about doing the wrong thing. Even though they have more than 80% of PC market, the only way they are making money is selling windows.

Most people don’t even use their store and they are not good competitor in browser market.

Microsoft’s main income is office and it is also dominated by Google. But Google don’t make a lot of money from Gsuite because their prices are too low.

I don’t think it’s going to change much because the centralization provides so much convenience for consumers. There’s a reason we love the idea of a one stop shop like Walmart

cnet, your website video player is really obsolete, and I am wondering when was the last time that your website is updated. it needs a major significant update. Its not very html5 like, and it looks stale and boring and on top of that, overrun by ads. Cmon CNET, update your site.

  14. J Y

    July 24, 2020 at 4:59 pm

They basically own everything, amazon owns retail, webhosting and your habits. Google and facebook know where you are and what you are doing, searching for and other stuff we don’t even know. Apple is just so incredibly rich they just get away with anything. Not to think about financial services

Hey there – the big tech hearing was scheduled to happen on Monday July 27 at 12p.m. ET, but there are now reports that it’s been postponed. There’s no official word from Capitol Hill on whether we can expect it to go ahead on Monday as planned, but we’ll update here as soon as we have more information. Read more:

I’m tired of hearing about this argument from people. People are choosing to use these services, and now I’m expected to assume because so many people use them and nothing else, that it’s a bad thing?! They do not prevent other companies from getting a foothold in the market, the consumers do. I don’t see many people willfully choosing to use Bing or Yahoo, or from actively avoiding using Amazon to support local businesses.

This argument that because they gain an essential monopoly on a market segment then enables them to charge higher prices is realistically false based on what actually is happening. Amazon essentially has a monopoly, and it’s precisely BECAUSE they have lower prices and more convenience than their competitors.

These companies and any companies only have the power we give them, just like government, and we are free to change who the winners and losers in the market as freely as we want. The only monopolies we should worry about is government created ones, or the government itself. The government is the ultimate monopoly.

Almost every historical example of a monopoly created through market forces has shown that they have not increased prices or otherwise harmed the consumer, or prevented the consumer from using alternatives (which there is always still alternatives). On the other hand, history has shown that most monopolies created by and protected by the government has done these things (for example, NV energy and the government not allowing competitors from entering the market).

How about an antitrust law against the government after all they are a power monopoly in which no one can be free of…we are all slaves of laws and taxation no one has previously agreed upon..funny how illogical the government system is..to use these companies products i agree to sign an agreement but there is no such agreement between any person and the government..it is an implicit agreement that no one has explicitly agreed on…

Gab an app that was a Facebook and Twitter competitor was classified by big tech as a White Supremacists supporting app. I wonder why? It was easy for Apple and Google to stop supporting the app in their phone/tablet app stores.

Weak Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Apple enough and we will end up with a Chinese phone, search engine, online store and a Chinese PC. The biggest companies are US companies, after that there’s a lot of Chinese companies. Weakening American companies only allows the second in line to get more market.

This meeting doesn’t make any sense. Why not haul the big banks and food chains to DC to talk about cost of healthier food verses the non healthy food. This is a safety issue for us the consumers of Apple opens up to much that opens more avenues for malware, viruses and other personal data being taken from you for government and non government reasons. Apple pride itself on meting the safest platform out there. Look at Android it’s only really safe on a pixel but Google non Alphabet would tell you that, they simply say they are better than Apple and it’s other Android OS competitors. Android is the Windows of mobile operating systems. Congress needs to keep their nose out of private citizens lives and so does tech companies.
