The Sand That (almost) Killed Millions
As the Cold War raged in the wake of humanity’s increasing understanding of nuclear science — and history’s very first use of an atomic bomb — both the United States and Russia started the search for a kinder, gentler form of nuclear warfare. It was a combination of traditional, familiar weaponry with emerging scientific capabilities,…

How to Make a YouTube Video in 1987
Decades before software like Premiere and iMovie made video editing cheap, easy, and accessible for everyone, the only option was chaining a conglomerate of vintage 80s technology – multiple camcorders or VCRs and a TV – to craft custom analog video. Then the Videonics system changed tech history forever. With professional-grade setups costing up to…

Sand is useful for concrete, electronics, and glass- but everything is reliant on fluid dynamics.

Which is why Nuclear Fusion devices will never ever be developed, even though they are said to be 30 years away… That is said to get more grant money. The reason why Nuclear Fusion devices will never be developed is because once made, it becomes all too easy to prevent the extraction of the waste product(Helium) and dump in about 1lb of liquid hydrogen and make a boom that would twice level any city on the planet.

11:58 – So many people laugh at duck and cover, but dont understand why it exists and why its a good strategy. If the bomb goes off on top of you, nothing will save you. If it went off 10 miles from where you where, however, the biggest danger would be your building collapsing on top of you, in which case, a desk is better protection than none at all. It was never about the bomb its self, but more about blast damage mitigation.

Lots of ads, in the early 50s, for Geiger counters, so you can prospect for freekn’ uranium.

there is a fourth element that wasn’t mentioned initially,
and that is the morbid fascination aspect of watching someone else die,
to determine if, in fact, it was indeed a more effective way to end someone’s life,
and whether or not the chosen method was either humane or not.
and at the same time, it also forces us to face our own mortality,
of which we all have a primal curiosity when asking those
profoundly reflective questions that dwell just beyond our own limited understanding,
because let’s face it,
war and death amongst ourselves is inevitable,
it is profitable.. very, Very profitable..
and we really, really enjoy killing each other.
just my two cents, but I think that this aspect, for the most part, is largely overlooked.

You shouldn’t make uneducated assumptions like that. Those who make the effort, can accurately hit a target at a good distance, and let me tell you–sling stones have the same sort of effect as a large caliber rifle bullet. What you don’t know, is that “To operate the weapon, the slinger would place the missile snugly in the straps, hold both cords ends using the same hand, then whirl the sling rapidly above the head while letting one cord lose at the right time. This would enable the missile to fly at a very high speed, causing severe injury or death to the targeted person.” Not only is it similar to a deer slug in a shotgun, it was an accurate weapon, limited only by the slinger’s skill. They killed at hundreds of yards, too.
