1 Simple Question That Could Improve Women’s Health | Meryam Sugulle | TED
There’s a reliable indicator of a woman’s future likelihood of cardiovascular disease — but it rarely gets asked about, says obstetrician and researcher Meryam Sugulle. She delves into the role of the placenta in pregnancy, how it can predict health outcomes and the single question that should be worked into routine health screenings. If you…

there are so many factors which influence potential future issue she lists, including sleep, diet, where you live, life style, finally genetics and amount of processed food consumed …
I looked at these studies, theyvare shallow, as it is not deep enough to prove the tese she is making ….
Troubles in pregnacy have a multiple backgrounds among others your genetics, diet before, if you smoked, alcohol consumotions, drugs etc its too shallow to come to such a huge statement ,
Its not science its a commercial science, which we geneticians will not accept as no proper in depth analysis.
Its like with ovarian- breast cancer tests done by gimmick, american company 23andme, tests which had accuracy of 20% !!!!! So 80% error, but it allowed them to collect data which they sold after …
Here, you ask all women who had pregnancy troubles to come and test themselves if they are at risk in the future with tests which has idem accuracy , maybe 20% . Another scam
Sorry am not buying it 😊

I hear what you’re saying. However, she is talking about a very specific risk factor, pre-eclampsia, which is not that common (affecting about 5% of pregnancies). The number of participants was over 2 million, so was a very large study. I’m inclined to think of pregnancy as a stress test for a woman’s body. It makes sense to me that if your body doesn’t deal with pregnancy that well, then you’re probably going to have issues as you get older. The studies have shown this to be true. Of course if you’re highly motivated and look after yourself you’ll probably beat the odds 😊

A woman’s immune system has to downgrade in order to not reject the fetus (remember, it is only 50% her DNA). But it is a tricky dance as she needs immune protection. Her blood volume increases by about 45% by the end of her pregnancy. But it is adjusted, more plasma than a non-pregnant woman. The placenta needs to transfer both oxygen and food to the fetus. It is a lot to ask of the pregnant woman’s cardiovascular system, and it all has to happen in response to the fetus growth. It makes sense to me that if the mother’s cardiovascular system struggles with this process it may be a sign that she is more likely to have cardiovascular struggles later in life.

Yet nobody tells any of these things ever to young women. All I ever knew was that it will hurt a bit and you may get stretch marks. Thats it. Luckily I did eventually look things up online and am childfree now. I think the reason they don’t tell women is so they don’t end up like me not wanting kids.

@@HikaruYamamoto according to the research the woman in the video is talking about, pregnancy is like a stress test. It isn’t the *reason* for cardiovascular problems down the road, but an idicator that you will have problems because your body doesn’t respond well to stress. The reason people don’t talk much about women’s health is because there is a serious lack of research in that department. If you don’t want to have kids that’s fine but to say that it will *cause* health problems is a stretch.

@@leafy5432 Oh I’m not talking about just that. Theres much worse than just stress on your body where you might have issues down the line. That just adds to the problems and risks. I keep finding new horrible reasons to never get pregnant and this one is actually quite mild.

I always had high risk pregnancies. My first baby was still born at 34 weeks and the cause was complications in the placenta formation. Me and My doctors, caregivers didn’t know, all of a sudden when babies moments began to slow and I literally felt less kicking and I rushed to emergency, almost after 10 hours I gave normal birth to still born baby. I had a very difficult time almost suicidal time as it was my first baby. And the worst part was when I came to know that this are 1-2% rare cases. And I was like why only me, what I did wrong or it was some curse. And now I have two beautiful daughters after three and five years. 🤞🧿

Why wouldn’t an increase in pregnancy related complications be a result of increased risk of cardiovascular disease by any sort of environmental, genetic or lifestyle related factors, instead of it being caused by the latter?
