Steam Deck all the way… How commited is Lenovo to the Legion? – Could it be axed in 3 years? …. just saying.

    • ihad2reload

      November 23, 2023 at 1:54 pm

Windows 11 is getting axed? The gpu driver? Where’s the real concern here

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 3:39 pm

@ihad2reload any amount of support from hardware and software bugs or constant improvements like the steam deck has been getting for years.

    • ihad2reload

      November 23, 2023 at 6:09 pm

That’s very different from a product getting axed. They’re already doing work and we’re expecting optimizations next. A product that is already in your hands being axed doesn’t make sense though. How would that even happen? What does that mean?

The question being alarmist in nature notwithstanding, with hardware this good the open source community would go nuts for it even if somehow Windows or Lenovo’s software/hardware support team got pulled from it

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 6:18 pm

@ihad2reload no they wouldn’t…. They have the steam deck, they’re not gonna reverse engineer something that’s closed source and barely “better” than the very open device they already have. The hardware is not even “that good” few people will care and support is more than just software support

    • ihad2reload

      November 23, 2023 at 6:24 pm

@Thomp YT Legion Go is a PC. Nobody needs to reverse engineer anything. Was there a real question or just more alarmist theories and hypotheticals

Lenovo Legion Go is more expensive because it is also considerably more powerful than the Stem Deck OLED. It has better internals than even the ROG Ally.

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 3:38 pm

it has like almost the exact same internals. But power isn’t everything ,steam deck clears in efficiency

    • Korg God

      November 23, 2023 at 5:53 pm

@Thomp YTefficiency isn’t everything, I would rather take power and that’s the main property to me that’s important when it comes to gaming

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 6:00 pm

@Korg God efficiency IS everything on a portable device. If youre gonna be stationary for most of the time then go for a desktop or a clunky laptop, those outperform these by a lot!

    • Korg God

      November 23, 2023 at 6:06 pm

@Thomp YT it’s not everything, it’s a plus but not everything, most people would rather take the more powerful device over the more efficient device and specially in the case of the steam deck vs legion go, it’s not like the legion go is bottom of the barrel terrible efficiency, it’s good however steamdecks is better. Same applies to power, steamdeck is powerful but legion go is more powerful. So ultimately it boils down to what you value more and as you’d presumably be buying these to have the best gaming experience possible on a handheld, that’s when power becomes priority over efficiency. Wherever the legion go lacks in performance to battery ratio, it makes up for in very efficient external hardware with the ability to take of the controls and prop up the device on a table and play that way too.

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 6:17 pm

@Korg God these “most people” don’t seem to be the majority. They seem like the minority if sale numbers are anything. And if it depends on what you value more, then what you value is not a mobile handheld device but a kinda-portable gaming PC which is called a laptop these days. And the external hardware is not “very efficient” making something battery powered and another thing that needs to be charged by the main battery is worse for efficiency

I own a Legion go, and I can tell you is frustrating. I was excited about the fps mode and believe me when I tell you it’s a mess. It doesn’t translate well with the games and each game has a different controller set up very different from each other. Halo has a different set up than Crisis and COD etc. Other than that, is an impressive system except for the Windows 11 headaches.

Naaah not to bad . Legion go is basically the same as jumping into pc gaming . If you never owned a pc gaming rig as of late yes this will be a crash course and somewhat of a steep learning curve but once you get past that you will realize how lunch better the legion go is . I coming from the deck btw . And when u have the deck long enough you will realize it has it own set of issues. Although an oled screen is nice it doesn’t fix the issues . Those of you on the fence just go with the Legion go . These are my honest first impressions for most. If you buy the deck . You will get instant gratification but you will get annoyed/ frustrated at the performance cap and other issues that u WILL notice in the future . Now Legion go you will be impressed with the power of this device but will shortly lived due to the tinkering involved bc it is a windows gaming pc after all. But in the LONG RUN you will be glad/ waaaaay more satisfied you choose the legion go. So it’s really instant gratification vs long term
Gratification. You choose guys and ladies

The Lenovo Legion go is not worth it for the reason it is not like a game console. I mind as well buy a gaming laptop that is more powerful and cheaper at a pawn shop.

Just returned Legion go and ordered steam deck. Fps is unplayable on the analog sticks due to dead zone, and I don’t plan to use it on a table that’s why I wanted a portable. Tons of launch issues with games, very bad user experience.
Also most of my games are on steam hence SD oled makes more sense

  11. Derrick Yt

    November 23, 2023 at 3:24 pm

All these handheld pc gaming devices make me appreciate my Nintendo Switch and gaming PC more.

    1. Because a Switch is a full pledged gaming console and it’s smaller and more portable to take outside. The quick resume feature and great battery life (switch OLED) are more than enough for my portable gaming and it plays indie titles perfectly plus some old titles. It’s also a hybrid and you get to really own your games forever by buying cartridges.

    2. If I wanted to play PC games then I just use my beefed up gaming PC. If I play a modern singleplayer game then why experience it in a tiny screen with unstable framerate and low graphic settings? It doesn’t make much sense to me. Plus I already consider the Deck as a BIG handheld device so the LeGo is just a gigantic mess to carry. The Steam Deck mostly needed an internet connection which is a turn off. I don’t even need to talk about battery life because it’s atrocious for any PC handheld.

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 3:37 pm

The steam deck is barely bigger than a switch with the hori controller attatched (actually good ergonomics), plus 3-12 hours battery life is already more than the original switch model promised and it has quick resume just like the switch except it can play many many more recent games and many many more older games than the switch WHILE those games are cheaper. And it doesnt need an internet connection

    • Derrick Yt

      November 23, 2023 at 3:42 pm

@Thomp YT it needs internet and it’s not “barely bigger than a switch”. It’s also a lot heavier. I can still pocket my switch oled in a cargo pant pocket but not the Deck. And as I said with modern titles I’d rather play them on a gaming PC which is a more pleasant experience. Playing a game like Spider-Man Remastered will have you hugging the power outlet anyway so there is no point at all. I ain’t carrying another hefty power bank just to play a AAA title in low settings lmao

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 3:46 pm

@Derrick Yt it doesn’t need internet. And it is barely bigger than a switch IF the switch had controls you can hold without getting cramps (joy cons). 3 hours for AAA is still better than no AAA, and you ignore half the other argument and liked your own comment

    • Derrick Yt

      November 23, 2023 at 3:53 pm

@Thomp YT i dont have to cater all your comment. This is my thread. I had my points said above but you stormed here and even ignored some of it. Whatever you think it will still not change my mind about PC handhelds. It’s a niche product. 3-12 hrs is theoretical and I as said again and again since you’re not paying attention. Those AAA titles are better off be played in a powerful laptop or desktop or PS5 machines for a better experience. Enjoy your 30-50fps in low settings anyway thats what you liked

    • Thomp YT

      November 23, 2023 at 4:00 pm

@Derrick Yt You dont have to cater to my comment, you have to respond properly in this discussion though but you can’t can you? And no one cares whose thread this is, it’s not even yours it’s the video creator’s you just made a comment in his video thread section (comment section). Niche is a pretty weird thing to say when the steam deck has sold millions, 3-12 is not theoreticall. And I’ll say it again since you have reading comprehension issues. You’re not by your PC all the time, you are away. And no matter how you phrase it, if you dont have a portable ps5 or a portable desktop 3hrs anywhere or infinite hours while charging is infinitely better than no hours because you cant carry your PC or PS5 on a train. And funny to see you talk about 30-50fps seeing as that’s basically all AAA switch games lol. Enjoy

The thing with the legion go is because of how new it is its doesn’t have a whole lot of upgraded drivers at the moment so it’s more of a waiting game

I yhink i would prefer the steam deck

  22. 10001000101

Steam deck gets so many software updates(this is a good thing) compared to the windows handhelds, they are made by hardware companies that do minimal updates, where as valve is a software company that rolls out a heap of improvements via updates, go to their website and look at the update history and it shows their commitment to the handheld.

Another thing that gets overlooked, the processor in the Lenovo Legion Go and Asus Ally is the AMD Z1, that processor is technically more powerful than the custom AMD processor in the Steam Deck, but at or below 15 watts the Steam Deck performance is equal and the lower you go the Steam Deck gets an advantage, and then the driver updates for the Z1 will be few and far between, because unlike the AMD Ryzen 7 – 7840U the chip is based on, it does not get support from AMD and Asus/Lenovo have to do the updates themselves.
I wouldn’t rely on hardware companies to provide software driver updates with any kind of consistency or even quality.

If you want something like a Switch but for PC games, get the Steam Deck.

What aboutthe ROG Ally in all of this.

Lenovo and their oblivious naming scheme… I’ll pass solely on the fact that they named it that and they won’t see a whole lot of Christian households buy it for their kids at Christmas…
The negative connotations with that “name” in times like these, but at least they’ll have the few kids who like to put 3 6’s in their username.
I really like it and would prefer it being that I can sort windows issues out, but I won’t touch it with that name. That said, I just put my order in for the seamless experience of the Steam Deck OLED Limited. Linux is a lot less of a hassle and Chinese companies aren’t exactly known for their 🤔 “support” with games. Even driver support is iffy with Chinese companies, you’ll never be able to run an OEM driver suite because they’re using a shoddy mobo that won’t function with the driver because it knocks the hardware of at the knees in unusual ways. Acer and Dell are the only ones that always build on a proper mobo that doesn’t cause issues with complete drivers.
Lenovo has a long ways to go in proving that they’re actually up to the task of supporting this unit for the intended purpose… Uphill battle for first gen burgers or should I call them beta testers?

I am curious whether Lenovo will back this unit similarly to their laptops in that their entire lineup has nearly every part available, direct from Lenovo…
