OBJECTION! Regarding the AI, the same “a person with theoritically years of expertise” argument could be made for artists but we’re actively seeing AI try to replace artists by people who don’t want to pay. Even though you likely won’t see AI replace lawyers for the courtroom, a lot of the smaller uses someone would have for a lawyer, such as a consultation, drafting contracts and research would be replaced by Ai which would impact a lot of lawyers starting out. Similiarly, the drudgery of law comes impacts the price/value/income of a lawyer so either a lawyer would either have to inflate the prices to keep the same average income or they’d have to take more cases to make up for the overall lack of income lost by Ai doing the drudge.

      October 6, 2023 at 5:44 pm

Drafting contracts and research is usually mostly done by paralegals. AI would just replace paralegals not lawyers.

If he didn’t make YouTube videos would he be more of an expert? I’m not sure why people pretend like he’s not a lawyer because he has made youtube videos covering legal topics

  8. Cosmos

    October 6, 2023 at 4:39 pm

Lol you asked a lawyer if this job is going to be taken. Thats like asking horses back then if cars are about to replace them or a textile worker if machines were going to replace them. You should have asked this question to a actual ai expert. They would have been more knowledge and less bias.

    • Cosmos

      October 6, 2023 at 6:49 pm

@Daniel Robinson well gpt 4 vision can analyze faces in images and frame by frame reactions in video currently. And it can form arguments and adjust them based off that data. So were not far off. The only thing it’s missing is being trained to specialize on the current law which would be easy to do. But also it would need a human body to relate to the jury. The “human factor” of it looking like a fellow human is really the only thing that’s far off. It can fake the “human factor” of emotion and human it sounds already you just have to tell it to.

    • Cosmos

      October 6, 2023 at 6:52 pm

@Daniel Robinson the tools for everything but the having a human looking body already exists. It’s just not perfect but can easily become perfect given time. It just need to be used effectively and be given at least 5 more years or prob less to improve to get to that level.

I love science in all forms but I would also love to see Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson forced to tag team cage match against a heavyweight UFC duo.

Mainly because I want to see both of them get punched in the face several times and choked out.

2:27 this is actually possible as long as the light is not traveling through a vacuum but through some other medium, like air or like water. You can see this in the water pools of some nuclear reactors where particles do go faster than the speed of light in water, which results in cherenkov radiation

    • xparvidxp

      October 8, 2023 at 5:31 pm

things with mass cannot travel faster than the speed of light. weightless particles like photons can

Paul Sutter saying “so its just forbidden” sounds like such a chad move, what is this, the 1800s? I dont click with that dude, he reminds me of why having a piece of paper saying you can do something, doesnt always mean you know how to do something…. makes me remember why I stopped watching the videos featuring him on ARS technica.
Lets go back to trying to push the known bounds of science, saying its forbidden just seems so counter productive in this day in age.

0:01 Saying that spacetime is expanding into something carries that assumption that spacetime occupies something what is not spacetime. It’s wrong. Occupation by definition only can happen where is space. The whole statment is pointless what is this question based on. Its shows that the person who asked the question skipping steps for understanding.

  53. Lee Carlson

    October 8, 2023 at 2:15 pm

Mr. Sutter really needs to go back and re-read Einstein. At no time does he say that you cannot travel faster than the speed of light (hello tachyons) what he said is that to travel at the speed of light would require infinite energy because the object would have infinite mass/inertia. Of course, photons have no mass, so where does that leave us.

    • Supreme Greaser

      October 10, 2023 at 9:08 pm

Tachyons are HIGHLY THEORETICAL, not real. They aren’t even meant to be real, they are part of a though experiment of particles that have negative mass and thus would travel FTL. Einstein himself would tell you that we can’t travel faster than light. Energy is mass the faster you move the more energy you have. Photons and other forms of existence of 0 mass will travel at the speed of light, not any faster. And for us seeing as we have mass we can’t break that barrier. I also found a ton of explanations on the internet why we can’t go FTL because of the whole space-time thing we got going on.

A question I’d ask is, I wonder if there will ever be a superfood. Something that an average human could eat, 3 times per day and receive all the necessary nutrition, micro and macro nutrients and calories that they need to progress to be a healthier race overall. We have products that follow this path already, so I wonder what the future of products like that will be. Something like this could even be a solution to world hunger. Assuming whomever develops it isnt a greedy oligarch.

“I’m sorry. You just can’t”. ….as far as we know right now.

People like you don’t even believe in innovation, human ingenuity. Where is the proof you ask, look back on this video or past video. Your the example of DOGMA. In time, someone will over come those obstacles. And I really hope you live long enough to be proven wrong. Dogma…

  81. The Last Obas Knight

    October 14, 2023 at 1:45 pm

I’ve often thought on some of these questions and I have a couple theories.

First, I think we are already seeing the results of some human evolution. Look at people who are flat footed. They no longer have an arch in their feet that would come in handy when traversing undeveloped terrain full of bumps and soft ground. Now, since we usually walk in a flat paved surface, the arches are no longer needed.

Also, while humans or their descended races may one day leave the solar system and possibly even be able to return, if they were every to leave the galaxy there would be no return. Since the galaxy is hurling through the universe, as soon as you leave its gravitational field, it will quickly outpace you and be gone. Especially if you were leaving in the exact opposite direction of the way its traveling.

But that also begs the question what would happen if we broke free of our sun’s gravitational pull? Would we move at a different speed than our solar system and lose the ability to get back to it? Even if we knew where it would come back around to in x amount of years, could reintegrate with it safely? And if gravity affects the passage of time, how much time would have passed for us compared to the origin system?

    So… many… QUESTIONS!!!

  82. Theresa Kessler

    October 14, 2023 at 6:13 pm

I would love to see AI be better underwater so that the “Deadliest Catch” crabbers would know exactly where the crab are and aren’t so that they are at sea a lot less time. Its sooooo dangerous as I’ve read and heard that that is the most dangerous job out there that there is!
