The power sector generates the electricity that sustains modern life — but it’s also the number one contributor to climate change. We need a swift and equitable shift to renewable energy, says 2023 Audacious Project grantee and ReNew2030 executive director Rebecca Collyer. In conversation with TED’s David Biello, she introduces a new coalition of governments, businesses and communities that aims to drastically scale wind and solar capacity in the 30 highest-emitting countries. Learn more about their plan — and why Collyer has hope for a greener, more equitable future. (This ambitious idea is part of the Audacious Project, TED’s initiative to inspire and fund global change.)

Countdown is TED’s global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at

Replacing fossils with just Solar and Wind is IMPOSSIBLE by two orders of magnitude, and you know it. We have the alternative since the 1950s, (yes sirs! it’s Nuclear) But oil companies bribed the whole world to maintain the status quo. STOP insulting our intelligence, please.

BS. I do not agree with your opinion that man made “Climate Change” is critical to survival. You have not overcome valid , logical arguments against climate change or our ability to make any difference. I say this is a political push to maximize stock profits for investors, including themselves. Manipulation of the newer generations with lies and skewed data, flawed assumptions and models. This is about money, not reality.

You have all got to stop looking at JUST the climate. Even if the entire energy industry can transition to ‘green’ and ‘renewable’, we will still be using that abundant & tragically undervalued energy to do all sorts of useless and damaging stuff. Like manufacturing millions of tonnes of junk that almost immediately ends up in landfill. Or clearing huge tracts of land, killing the wildlife, killing the soil, adding synthetic fertilisers, using all kinds of -icides, causing run-off that poisons waterways, etc. Pumping out PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ into the environment. Shedding microplastics everywhere… in the oceans, in your blood. This **all** stems from a spike in the availability of cheap abundant energy that we’ve been riding for the a brief period of roughly 100 years or so. That’s not to mention the effects on social inequality.

Use much less energy where you can. Grow as much of your own food as you can. Harvest rainwater. Learn stuff. Teach stuff. Share. Build resilient local community. Look out for each other.
