@Chrono Gamer you’re joking right? Please say you’re joking.. 😐 You have a midwestern accent then.. you do know that right? I’m genuinely concerned over here. 😭

    • Chrono Gamer

      May 6, 2023 at 12:36 pm

@Loganjaaa It’s the only place where people do not have an accent. I hope you are having a great day 🙂

    • Chrono Gamer

      May 11, 2023 at 12:05 am

@Србомбоница 🇷🇸 Standard American is the absence of an accent.

    • Србомбоница 🇷🇸

      May 11, 2023 at 12:20 pm

@Chrono Gamer in what way ??I thought south London was like the original English but it’s still considered an accent to others, have you left the Midwest ??I guarantee in London everyone would say you have an accent

    • Chrono Gamer

      May 11, 2023 at 12:48 pm

@Србомбоница 🇷🇸 I am exposed to all different accents through media. General American is un-accented English 🙂

    • Србомбоница 🇷🇸

      May 11, 2023 at 12:51 pm

@Chrono Gamer yes but have you travelled outside Midwest or in Europe ,we can definitely hear the accent on Midwest Americans

    • Chrono Gamer

      May 11, 2023 at 12:55 pm

@Србомбоница 🇷🇸 Do you know what a Midwest accent sounds like? Maybe you are confusing it Southern or something else ,:)

    • Gabriel Leroux

      May 8, 2023 at 4:26 pm

      @Mac Machine
1st: I guess you meant American
2nd: Please stop saying America or American while referencing the USA and it’s citizens, it’s actually extremely arrogant and narcissistic, in addition of plainly being cultural appropriation

    May 5, 2023 at 1:39 pm

well californians have gotten their accent to be considered standard so…

    • Brendan Abolivier

      May 5, 2023 at 1:47 pm

I’m not familiar with American accents, but in France Parisians have gotten their accent to be considered standard, and it doesn’t change the fact that to every other French person they have an accent.

    • Anym

      May 5, 2023 at 8:08 pm

      Still an accent

    • Michael R

      May 6, 2023 at 1:20 am

@sub-harmonick I don’t think I have enough of a background in linguistics to answer that accurately. But the intonation, vernacular (which may be an issue I’d dialect rather than accent), etc. are different. Also, California has any number of accents within the state. Surfers in LA don’t sound like people in San Francisco and people in the Sierra Nevada mountains don’t sound like either.

    • sub-harmonick

      May 6, 2023 at 2:16 am

@Michael R sure, I’m not talking about valley girls, surfers, and maybe central valley (tho don’t know much about that one)
but everyone else pretty much has the same one that is pretty similar among a lot of the western states imo, and pretty much the same as what is considered the ‘standard american accent’.
Not counting accents of other sub-groups.
and saying ‘hella’ more isn’t an accent imo.

    • Michael R

      May 6, 2023 at 2:50 am

@sub-harmonick the “standard” American accent originated in the non-coastal northeast and Great Lakes region

    • sub-harmonick

      May 6, 2023 at 3:05 am

@Michael R even if it originated there, the accents have changed in those regions while speakers in california, nebraska, arizona, washington, oregon, etc. have continued speaking that way.
Maybe I’m incorrect that ‘californians’ specifically have gotten their accent considered standard, but the accent that they speak is considered standard.

This is such a Californian thing to say. Typical.

    • Milo McCarthy Music

No they haven’t lmao it’s not standard to everyone who’s not Californian

    • sub-harmonick

      May 9, 2023 at 9:20 am

@Milo McCarthy Music yes it’s considered the standard American accent

    • Milo McCarthy Music

God this is the simplest thing to understand and yet people insist on saying “I don’t have an accent.” That’s like saying you don’t have an ethnicity.
