Surprised there’s been no ted talks about the lithium mining in the congo and the devastating effects it has on the environment as well as the child slavery. Doesnt fit the “climate change” narrative though.

Africa has serious issues with corruption, unproductive gov that make decision making almost impossible. Then the skill shortages in delivering such projects.

yep Sahara solar and wind plans to power Europe have been put forward many times, gets to a feasibility stage and corruption or foreign interests/ geopolitics stop everything once again, OECD dig them out of the hole first then moves to cooperation

Clean energy is a myth. What really determine how “clean” energy might be is the usage we make of it. In other words, energy from fossil fuel used to power schools and hospitals (providing those schools are not some propaganda tool…) is “cleaner” than energy from “renewable” to power a factory manufacturing weapons and more trash that will soon pile up in another junkyard…

There’s no such thing as “clean energy “ . Maybe less impactful than, but no energy transfer is clean. To manufacture energy creating devices takes massive energy consumption, then the impact of transportation to the market. Oil, coal, solar, wind, natural gas, and hydroelectric power all have negative impacts on the environment. Even if we reverted back to candles and wood burning stoves … there is pollution… not to mention that with earths current population we would deplete that resource in record time. So while this is a dreamy and lofty idea, it’s not practical, or realistic.

Wonderful talk by Rebekah – the opportunities for economic dynamism and sustainable living in Africa are staggering. We should not leave Africa behind as has been done so many times in the past.
