How long before this is the power source on military equipment? Aircraft carriers and submarines?

I imagine it’ll get used by the military before it’s used in a neighborhood to power your refrigerator.

Some Summaries already powered by Nuclear Energy, need to refuel every 25 years.

    • zero11010

      December 17, 2022 at 7:41 pm

@MrXYZ2k most US submarines. Yeah. But, this is different. And, if it generates more power than the previous nuclear reactors it’s going to be used in what are currently nuclear powered craft.

Also … did you thumbs up your own comment? I was texting when the YouTube notification arrived. I got to the comment in less than 2 minutes and you had a thumbs up. It seems unlikely that a random would have seen your comment on a comment within a minor video. Yeah? So, you gave yourself a thumbs up.

      Curious, about that. Why?

One step closer to Mr Fusion from Back To The Future. I’ve been waiting to power my flying car with banana peels and egg shells for too long!

Love how say clean energy ow the waste don’t count

    • The One Who Wrote This

      December 16, 2022 at 8:44 pm

      You’re thinking of Fission.

Nuclear Fusion is MUCH cleaner than Nuclear Fission as the waste produced by Fusion can be recycled in 100 years. In comparison, waste from Fission can take 1,000,000 years before being able to be recycled safely. That’s an order of magnitude of 10,000 in overall difference in waste.

In addition, most of the byproducts from Fusion is Helium, which is an inert gas. Fusion does produce Tritium, which is radioactive. However, Tritium’s half life is ~12.3 years, so it’s much quicker to decay compared to Fission (~90 years per half life for samarium-151 and ~211,100 years per half life for technetium-99).

It’s called “clean” as it’s cleaner than a lot of the other options out there (i.e., oil, coal, fission, other non-renewable sources). It technically still has waste, but the waste it produces when compared to its non-renewable contemporaries is MASSIVELY reduced.

Once Fusion can be performed regularly without major complications, it will definitely become widespread. It definitely needs more development time, but advancements like these are definitely beneficial to society as a whole.

@The One Who Wrote This well said. Also nuclear fusion meltdowns don’t absolutely devastate the surrounding area, if I understand correctly it’ll basically take out the magnets but no one dies of radiation poisoning

    • The One Who Wrote This

      December 17, 2022 at 9:52 pm

@Warrick  Right, it’s better than fission in that way too.

This is what Dr. Octopus was trying to achieve in Spiderman 2! “The power of the sun in the palm of my hand”. Scientists were actually able to achieve it! What was thought of as fiction is now reality! 😁

@Horble Dorble The movie wasn’t for children you idiot. It was rated for young adults. Every news channel is referencing it to what Doc Ock was trying to do but they actually did it! 😝😎

    • woodstockings

      December 18, 2022 at 3:50 am

      How?

    • recore67

      December 18, 2022 at 12:11 pm

@woodstockings by gradually replacing all active energy sources with nuclear power, then by realizing its potential we start forming nuclear cells (fusion cells), then to nuclear batteries (fusion core), then to flying cars, talking robots and jetpacks. But when other countries start lacking on resources, they ask if they could share or borrow, which typically ends in war. someone drops a bomb, the whole nation gets infested with giant cockroaches.

This is good news! The bad news is the video orientation. Makes it look like we are looking at video through a slit or window. Not so bright!

If you thought nuclear energy was dangerous, this is off the charts. Can we? Probably. Should we? No

  14. Vince L

it was unbelievable that a person can believe in Nuclear Fusion, and pig is non edible, a person can stop the moon moving, and travel to and from mecca & Jerusalem in one night, and women is less intelligent, at the same time.

Maybe then we can finally solve the water problem. It takes a lot of power for water desalination in areas like California. With enough power, it could be a lot easier.

Clean Energy in which small mistake could lead to global catastrophe, like what happened on Chornobyl. 😮😮😮😮

    • The One Who Wrote This

      December 17, 2022 at 9:54 pm

Fission is the one with meltdowns. Fusion (the one listed here) doesn’t have that issue.

  20. definitely not obama

    December 17, 2022 at 8:07 pm

To clarify, this is only technically a net positive reaction. The technicality comes from the fact that the fusion reaction released more energy than the sum of the energy of the lasers that were fired into the fuel canister. However, this discounts the energy required to fire the lasers. In order to make this process anywhere near feasible, we would need to have significantly more efficient lasers. The amount of energy they put into the entire system is still much larger than the net energy produced from the reaction.

Such an intelligent, well educated scientist… I just don’t fully get the hijab.
The hijab certainly makes sense as a practical time saver that gets around the chore of conforming to hairstyling standards imposed on women.
Whatever though… “to each her own” or chaqun à son goût ! … and yes, may fusion energy one day actually elevate the human condition, as well as enable the survival of other species.

We have to hold back some of what the Americans say! Besides, it is a laboratory for the development of nuclear weapons. What Americans want is to destroy the earth and the people on it, not to generate electricity.

I’m curious 🤔 as to how much can the sun take from us drawing from it. Also can whatvwe do be pulling it closer to us. Also constantly pushing holes through to space & return. Just curious 🤔.
