The Steam Deck is not a gaming Laptop and does not belong on this list. Pretty fail.

Eh no need to be pedantic. Portable gaming PC

@Michael Griffin what’s the title of the video, genius? I’d rather be pedantic than a moron.

@Michael Griffin By your logic smartphones/iPads are portable gaming personal computers. Don’t be pedantic.

It’s good though I see your point. It really is one of those really good inventions. Like the OG iPhone, it wasn’t perfect, but it redefined a category of devices.

@SV smartphones and iPads don’t run pc games, steam deck does.
Secondly, steamdeck is closer to a pc than a console, as it doesn’t recieve any games developed exclusive to it, it just runs pc games.
At the moment it’s the cheapest pc one can own, as it can even run other os , like Windows and offer desktop experience.

Xbox series s is cheap, but it’s just a console, hense didn’t make it into this video.

      November 29, 2022 at 12:26 pm

@SV Smartphones or any arm based device can run linux , but pc games are not designed for arm chip, so it won’t run. Trust me, I’ve tried it, you need pc hardware to run pc games. This is the reason why some videos show people running windows xp vm on iPads but it can only run old x86 games and not newer titles.

    • SV

      November 29, 2022 at 12:47 pm

@Gokul Josh My dude have you ever heard of Proton? Being ARM is not a big issue as the market is already moving to it. Microsoft made a new arm windows version. None of that dismisses what I’ve said.

    • SV

      November 29, 2022 at 12:49 pm

@Gokul Josh I used to have an old Microsoft laptop that ran windows 8 on arm from Best Buy. At the time it could barely run much programs. You still wouldn’t say that wasn’t a pc just because of a video game compatibility. It’s still a pc, laptop, and running windows 8.

    • Gokul Josh

      November 29, 2022 at 12:53 pm

@SV please do some research, I’m daily driving Ubuntu from arm processor and I’m well aware of its limitations.
We are going beyond topic at this point.

    • SV

      November 29, 2022 at 12:56 pm

@Gokul Josh We are well into not beyond this topic. I’m pointing out flaws in your logic of what is and what isn’t, and your distro choice doesn’t change that.

The best gaming laptop right now is the MSI Titan GT77. Its the monster of all monster laptops! 😁😎 A lot of people hate Alienware for some reason. I always liked the way they look.

    • Cameron Bosch

      November 28, 2022 at 4:50 pm

Alienware looks good, but their control center software is awful and their laptops have poor QC. For example, Jarrod’s Tech had both a recent Alienware laptop and this year’s Dell G15 (a lower end gaming laptop which also uses AWCC for whatever reason) have multiple BSODs to the point where the Alienware laptop could properly do a battery test and the other was completely usable due to 30 BSODs in less than 4 days. Surprisingly, the Dell G15 was (seeming) fixed by reinstalling the Intel Iris Xe graphics drivers.

(Though if you’re looking for gaming laptops and are not subscribed to Jarrod’s Tech, do yourself a favor and subscribe!)

since none are 17″ then none of the above.

having a smaller screen alone is a worst experience than 17″. not to mention smaller body which means fewer ports and heat issues.

Wow, the steam deck is 1/8th as powerful as the Xbox series X or PS5. It’s better than all “integrated graphics PCs/laptops”. But anything with a dedicated video card, even a gtx 1650, is more powerful. Regardless, for what it is, it’s an amazing handheld.

    • Gokul Josh

      November 29, 2022 at 12:53 am

GTX 1650 is less powerful than integrated graphics on steam deck, there is a detailed video from digital foundry on the same.
1650 won’t get future support, it doesn’t support nvidia dlss or amd fidelity fx. Performance of integrated graphics on steam deck could improve over time with updates to amd fsr and fidelity fx.

And for its price, there isn’t any laptop that could outperform it. Closest competition are rtx3050 laptops that go on sale for 680$ or above.

    • Gokul Josh

      November 29, 2022 at 8:51 am

@Arcuied are you talking about desktop 1650 or laptop 1650 ?

Also, please check compatibility on amd website.

I agree that the list in this video doesn’t make sense when there exists cheap rtx 3050 laptops, but i don’t belive that 1650 laptops make a better fit than a gpu that is more recent.

    • Arcuied

      November 29, 2022 at 8:58 am

@Gokul Josh what’s the difference bro, even a gtx 1650 max q is still better than the igpu in the steam deck, plus you can use fsr to increase the fps even more, there’s literally benchmark out there to prove it, do your research bro

    • Gokul Josh

      November 29, 2022 at 9:16 am

@Arcuied Bro, the point I’m trying to make is, one should consider rtx 3050 over GTX 1650 as rtx3050 supports nvidia’s dlss, while GTX 1650 doesn’t out of the box. Where I’m from, there isn’t much difference between price of an rtx3050 and gtx1650 laptop.
Steamdeck on the other hand is 200$ cheaper than both, so at that price , my personal opinion is to buy a newer gen gpu based machine, which could potentially get more support in near future, rather than buying an old gen gpu which nvidia already doesn’t give much care to.

And in my opinion, steam deck is closer to a pc / laptop than a console, as i think that it won’t recieve games tuned for its hardware like a console.
Xbox series s is a better deal than steam deck, but it is solely a console and not a pc, so it makes sense to me why steam deck is included in this video.

    • Arcuied

      November 29, 2022 at 9:24 am

@Gokul Josh oh i definitely agree with you that buying a 1650 laptop is not worth it, literally a waste of money, the difference in prices is only like 50-100$ more depending on which brands you choose, but the thing is the steam deck is not available in many different countries that includes my own country too, so i don’t think buying steam deck is a better options, especially for college and stuff you need something more like a laptop you know

This list is subpar… A lot of reasonable and decent options are missing like Lenovo Legion line, ASUS Zephyrus/ROG line, MSI range and others. The Steam Deck does not belong on this list.

      November 28, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Agreed for sure, no idea why the x15 is even on this list, I hadn’t see a single reputable reviewer recommend it when other brands simply have much better devices on offer

    • Gokul Josh

      November 29, 2022 at 12:49 am

Acer aspire 7 with 12th gen i5, rtx3050, thurderbolt 4 port was on sale for 680$, only disadvantage being 60hz display when compared to other laptops from same budget. Acer Nitro has 144hz display, but it comes with old gen Intel / amd processor and no thunderbolt 4 port. Dell would’ve been my last pick out of all the laptops in this price range, even msi has one priced very aggressively.
