you can do that and use vr. theyre meant to coexist, not for one to be a replacement of the other. same way current tech is

    • xthelegend89

      October 14, 2022 at 10:54 pm

@goodtyme times change, I’m sure it will come. The thing is, gaming in general has had ads in them for decades. Almost every other spect of our life has ads, why did anyone expect VR to be different?

Those sunglasses are just a better Snapchat version no one wanted. The people who are into all this Web3 aren’t interested in getting paid in zuckbucks, I understand the whole inclusive hippie bs, but it’s not like I want my character to have PTSD and anxiety like I do and I’m guessing people who have disabilities probably won’t make their character have them, it’s a virtual world to leave your real life, not bring it with you.

I like how Sony who doesn’t treat vr as their main focus, has a better headset than this.

    • Bastion

      October 15, 2022 at 10:46 pm

Sony is not working on technology that generates realistic movements for your avatars using only the information that your hands and head movements provide.

In fact, Sony headsets have almost the same features as the Quest Pro (with the difference that PSVR requires a Playstation 5 while the Pro are standalone)

Could you tell me the market price of a Playstation 5?

    • Micheal Adebz

      October 15, 2022 at 10:53 pm

@Bastion 400usd (base version) the Sony be headset comes with divested rendering 4k Oled technology and haptic vibration in the headset itself and all the fancy dual Sense features in the controllers. All immersive features that are missing from the 1500 quest pro. The ps5 vr which is 399 paired with the ps5 which is also 399 for the digital edition equates to $800 700 usd less than the quest pro.

    • Bastion

      October 15, 2022 at 11:27 pm

@Micheal Adebz 499$ (if available) + possible 399$ = 898$ (assuming you bought both at market price)

Pro comes with haptic feedback aswell (not in the headset tho, because wtf), an important catalog of games in its store along with games/applications that you can sideload, mods and can be used both on PC and standalone

    • Micheal Adebz

      October 15, 2022 at 11:32 pm

@Bastion nope 399 for the ps5 digital edition. And having haptics in the headset sounds weird but the ones in the headset and controller are so precise “in re8 village when Ethan gets stabbed in the head you feel a sharp pain in your head too”
      -game journalists

    • Bastion

      October 15, 2022 at 11:34 pm

The truth is that the problem with the quest pro is that it is not even focused on gaming, sony playstation yes, a 4k oled screen is not a priority for companies sadly

    • Brantley May

      October 16, 2022 at 1:47 pm

Sony is working on an amazing piece of tech. But I would argue that they are different devices, fundamentally. PSVR2 is focused on gaming. Also it’s wired.

Meta Quest Pro is focused on communications and productivity. And it’s mixed-reality (VR & AR). I would say it’s actually more of an AR device and VR.

He reminds me more and more of John Hammond from Jurassic Park. John also invested in a dubious idea with enviable childish enthusiasm. But John recreated dinosaurs, the technologies of his scientists are fantastic and he did not show off with them until the official news about the park. Mark, on the other hand, invests 70 billion in 9 months in models from Fortunata, and apparently thinks in this way to shove everyone in the world into a viral reality one day, although no one asked for it.

No comments about the insanely high bandwidth requirements needed to make this feasible?

  50. Philip M

    October 16, 2022 at 8:03 am

Im a bit sceptical of how these technology will effects society. Yes these technology is impressive but what benefit it will bring to society is something that needs to be carefully articulated. When electronic socially media platform came into being most assumed it simplifies the way people could connect with each other. And it did, but it also brought disconnection from life normality. How many time have we read on the news, how people commit atrocious act. From suicide due to online bullying, to violent murder because they lost ‘following’ and did not get enough ‘like’. Yes it all boiled down to the person mental and and emotional stability, but this technologies heighthen more this deep seated issues because these technology made it more personal even if what it offers is just artificial. I worked with technology, gosh i even build system that uses the same architecture such as WEBRTC and AI. I teach STEM Robotic to primary school student so they could appreciate Math and Science and even show them how to create games in 3D blender. I enjoy teaching kids because i see them as the future, however I put limit by telling student to go out have some fun with real physical human friend and not dwell too much on virtual environment. We go to the school playground and let each of them takes turn in operating drone have a real competition with other real physical human child and not the virtual one. I remind them that no technology regardless of how advance it is cannot replace human connection. Because technology is just a tool not life itself.

More ways to avoid actual human contact. This is just going to lead to more mental decline in the younger population. The part where the two were wearing headsets in the same room with each is pretty on point. They promote this technology as a way to enhance social interaction. Ironically, it shows you how to avoid it altogether.
