imo when people are looking for a budget laptop they want like 200$ for one. i know the macbook air is kinda expensive but for the price it’s near a perfect laptop.

That’s not budget anymore. It can be great value. I reckon a MacBook Air even entry level is pretty good, and totally worth it, but it’s not budget.

If I was broke and needed a mobile computing device, I would just get an entry level iPad with a Logitech keyboard.
Not sure what a $500 laptop can do for a casual person an iPad can’t. And whatever you would want to do at that level is better optimised for iOS.
People spending that money aren’t exactly enthusiasts, just need something that works.

You gotta be a bargain hunter. Patience is the key. A laptop that normally goes for $1100 will be discounted under $900 at some point. A discounted $800 laptop can be had for $600 or less down the road. Like he said, watch out for the specs. Gotta educate yourself and ask questions.

I still have ASUS Budget Laptop at Home. Bought it from 2018 Brand New and now it runs Latest Windows 10 November 2021 version
So many things that my Laptop can do, such as Browsing, Consuming Media, and even Creating (just basic, not advanced)

My mom bought a Galaxy Book Go on HSN for $249.99 with Microsoft Office. The computer was surprisingly nice, I bought my dad the non Microsoft version for $189.99.

I mean most people spend a hundred dollars over $1000 on a smartphone and use said smartphone for about 4 years (on average; give or take). So I would say it would make more sense to do the same for a laptop since that is something you’d probably use a laptop longer than that.

If u need to use the Microsoft office suite, I think a low powered Windows laptop like an i3, still makes a case against Chrome books. The chrome books are ok for simple office tasks, but the experience is frustrating if u want to do some serious office tasks.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy Book Go for $200 CANADIAN (regularly $300 CAD) (what is this $500/$700 USD for a “budget” laptop) and there are downsides to it having an ARM processor (I hope anybody buying it knows what they’re getting into and that there isn’t a Windows for ARM version of Chrome and the x86 version will take a performance hit), but it’s full windows (not a chromebook) and web browsing with Edge is smooth af. Tons of retro games and emulators run smoothly on it. VLC runs fine. I could have bought three of em for what you’re talking about.

I would say spend a bit more and get a MacBook, keep it clean and safe from scratches etc and re sell it a few years down. The value holds and re sells much higher than any laptops.

Now a days for a decent Windows Laptop you need a iCore 7 and able to pay a little over $1000.

For my personal PC I mostly watch YouTube, play card or board games, web browsing, and use Office 360. I use a Microsoft Surface Go tablet with an i3 and it’s great. I would not necessarily draw the line at i5 and above for a Windows laptop.
