This video does a lot better than the other videos at explaining the function row and the touchpad, thanks for explaining those more in detail! Not sure how I feel about those tough lol

    This can go two ways:

    1. The Touch Bar is a success and becomes mainstream on laptops so apple adds it back to MacBooks
    2. (More likely) the Touch Bar fails because keyboards are great how they are and they remove it 1 or 2 generations later

I love the idea that you think Apple looks to dell for product ideas

with everything removed, they should have named it Dell XPS Minus !

Odd looking laptop. I think I might even prefer the older xps look more. Although, i’m so happy they got rid of that horrible carbon fiber texture thing they had.

Dell XPS 13 Plus: An ode to 12″ MacBook?

12” MacBook did have a headphone jack and function keys ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    How is this an upgrade?

Holy crap this looks awful. You adopted a TouchBar that has less functionality than Apple’s… as Apple moves on to better ideas. The touchbar is janky as it has no shape and… the keyboard. Yikes.

Sorry this is a HUGE downgrade

    Huge downgrade.

Definitely nailed the look but I’m not sold on those capacitive function keys. This may not be a great laptop for software engineers since you rely quite heavily on those keys. I’m sure they could have put an additional USB-C port, they seem to be riding the thin&light hype train. Even Apple admitted that it’s not the best approach.

DOA. When the New Macbook air M2 comes. Nobody’s goona care. Quite frankly, nobody should care now

Well, it appears the new generation of XPS is a big downgrade in terms of ergonomics and feels like Dell is really lacking breakthrough technologies in their sleeve. The only big improvement should be Intel Alder Lake CPU, but this fact alone is not going to outweigh the overall feeling of Dell ruining a previously well-made product with great ergonomics and design.

Dell really went to 12″ 2016 Macbook Air with this one

Having no border around the touchpad is a massive usability mistake. It looks great, but if you click and drag something across the screen you inevitably drop it, not knowing you’ve crossed over the border.

I like the touch bar idea, but I don’t like de design of the keyboard and trackpad. Looks like a downgrade to me.

    January 5, 2022 at 12:52 am

    All I ask for:
    1. Better battery life comparable to M1 or at least 12 hrs real world use
    2. Quality webcam 1080p, night mode/low light mode, HDR.
    3. Well tuned Haptic touch pad(take the time)
    4. Better quality speakers

  24. Marcus Grande

Once again, doing what nobody asked for — removing the headphone jack. Why do these companies continue to think removing audio output options is a “feature”? They are adopting all of the Apple design decisions that were maligned, such as the touch bar. Come on, Dell. People buy your products for more functionality, not less.

I’ve had many XPS laptops in my career and as a developer I loved them at the time but even when I get the maxed out configurations, they just never lived up to performing as well as I needed.

This new XPS is another let down. It’s still running Intel which overheats like anything.

Better get a Macbook Air with the M1 chip, even from 2020 will smoke this Intel based laptop with less RAM and ZERO fans!
