No 4k docked (and 1080p portable screen)
    No 256 gb base storage
    No 90hz (1080p 90hz gaming could have been great and 4k 30 when docked or 2k 60)

Those expectations are completely unreasonable. Even the Steam Deck which has cutting edge hardware only manages 30fps on modern titles at 720p.

“it is the upgrade I have been looking for”
it is literally the same specs…. just a new screen…

“it’s best new features are the display and they kickstand”
it is literally the only new features…

    Are they paying you?

    • DeeKayWrap

Built in ethernet is the best feature of the new switch

    • O T

      October 6, 2021 at 11:03 pm

Lol it’s a pathetic “upgrade” a new switch will be out in 2 years i bet with the same oled screen just better joy cons

  10. SplendidD101

    October 6, 2021 at 10:23 pm

Don’t understand why you are comparing Switch to a fully fledged PS5 and Series X console. Do you not get that this is a handheld not a full fledged console, you sound dumb comparing the two

    • DeeKayWrap

      October 6, 2021 at 10:59 pm

      It’s both

    • SplendidD101

      October 6, 2021 at 11:05 pm

@DeeKayWrap Yes it’s a hybrid but it’s not a full fledged console so it’s a bit silly to expect PS5 and Series X level of hardware

    • DeeKayWrap

      October 7, 2021 at 1:22 am

@SplendidD101 Of course you can still compare them because you can say things like you can play this game on Xbox series X and PS5 but it’s also available on the switch and you can take it on the go which could be a benefit for some people over not having that option at all.

I have a ps5 as well…. but 80% of my gaming happens on switch because most games don’t need the coat of paint ps5 gives you. Personally I think it’s worth it simply because I use it all the time. But… I can understand someone not getting it. Depends on your budget really…

  20. MrGelowe

I’m just going to get steam deck. Switch is basically a tablet/phone hardware that doesn’t get hardware upgrades for 4 years+. I would hope that nintedo is not upgrading hardware because of chip shortage but more likely, they are just being nintendo. And before anyone says hardware doesn’t matter, last pokemon game that I played on my DS was laggy garbage and from what I am hearing not everything on the Switch runs at smooth (shutter at the idea) 30 fps.

  21. Harlock2day

    October 7, 2021 at 12:41 am

Four years is not enough to do a next gen console. People do not understand that when buyers invest in a Switch they expect it to be fully supported for a few years so what do you tell domeone who bought a new Switch in 2020 ? Sorry no new games, new games only on Switch 2 ? That’s a sure way to lose consumer trust. Once it’s been 5 or 6 years then people know there will be eventually a new Switch. I expect the Switch 2 to be released in 2023.

  26. claymorexl

    October 7, 2021 at 12:28 pm

No significant change aside from the screen and kickstand. Yes, an OLED screen will look better if you play handheld. Yes, the kickstand is an improvement if you play on tabletop. The HUGE downside to the OLED screen will be burn-in and pixel color-gamut degradation. If you are using the screen enough to care about the improvement, then your experience will likely degrade after about a year or so, especially if you are playing a lot of a particular game where hud elements burn into the screen and are very noticeable at times. This will likely be an issue OLEDs experience until they are replaced by micro led.

True what you say about kids not giving a damn about the oled, include my children in that… I sold our v1 switch in the summer as it was starting to look beat up. I told them I wanted to wait for the OLED but they really weren’t fussed on the OLED at all and would’ve happily settled with a v2 red box…

I’m glad I waited. They’ll thank me tomorrow when the OLED turns up!

You got the original Nintendo Switch as a Birthday gift, you trade it into Gamestop for $260 credit towards Switch OLED, your friend owes you $65 which you put towards Switch OLED, you leave upgrading from Switch Model 1 to Switch OLED out the door for $75.86 😁

From a side-by-side comparison with my previous switch, it is a night and day difference in terms of visual clarity and fluidity. It’s worth the upgrade IMO

I was totally excited about this OLED model. I have never had a switch so this is my first switch ever. I was going to wait for the switch pro that will probably come in 2023 but at this point I couldn’t wait any longer. The global chip shortage also made me consider purchasing this model as all gadgets will probably be scarce.
