Samsung’s new foldable phones are water-resistant, but how much can they actually take? We test the IPX8 rating on the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 in fresh water to find out.

Update! The speakers on the Z Fold 3 came back to life thanks to fixmyspeakers.com but the fingerprint reader is still not working after our pool experiment.

@Majestic Hellium I think salt water will be a bad on the phone(s). Cos drying the interior would be difficult besides the salt content.

I do feel putting it in pool water well be fine then first few time

Hi, I was just wondering how is the durability of the Z flip 3? Ive been meaning to upgrade from my S9+ and ive heavily considered getting the Z flip 3, the only thing that’s holding me back is the durability aspect since I heard horror stories with the original fold.

Thank you for reviewing the zee phones. Because of the advent of YouTube, I’ve had to deal with British/Australian/South African /New Zealand accents, and dialect peculiarities, more than at any other time in my life — except when I went to undergraduate school in London. Any little thing you can do to help is much appreciated. If I were doing a review for Brits, I’d zed them as a courtesy and also try not to harass them with annoying American idioms.

So from what I’ve seen others say in the past, (I’m not sure about the current generation of phones) the phones are/were water resistant, but pools and especially salt water were still a detriment.

  67. Dave Ninjaneuro

    September 7, 2021 at 1:43 am

The creases in these phones worsens over time and triggers my OCD. It’s distracting too since you can feel it when swiping etc.

  68. Trevor Brent

    September 7, 2021 at 2:43 am

There is no coating on the insides of the phones. Water does not bead off of any of the electronics inside.

This is just a little less painful to watch than your drop tests 😉
