Nice job on your first video as host! I think you went a little hard on wireless charging overall, but it was all done for the sake of good comedy fun, so that’s fine. The one massive issue with wireless charging I have are those times when you “miss” the wireless charging sweet spot when setting your phone down and don’t realize that it’s actually not charging.

Dude .. you’re doing it wrong. I have two wireless chargers, one at my office desk and one by my bed. First, they aren’t flat, the phone is mostly upright. It is almost impossible to not put the phone on right. And there is a clearly visible light. Because the phone is upright, I can easily see the display. Great for pop up messages while I’m working and for seeing the time at night.
The one by my bed even has a small fan to keep it from overheating.
I don’t care how long it takes to charge, fast charging is bad for the battery. They are maintenance chargers to either keep the phone charged during the day or to recharge it overnight.
I have wired chargers where I sit so if I need to, I can plug in. And a battery pack charger if I’m going to be out and about.
Each type of charger has its place.
But stop buying flat ones, they are trash.

I like and use wireless charging but have some similar feelings about it: I hope it improves. I use an OtterBox Defender case and find several won’t charge through that. So far I’ve found two that will: Yootech F500 and the one built into the center console of our 2020 Kia Soul. Alignment is trivial in the Soul because it’s achieved by placing the phone fully against a divides at the side and back of the recess. The F500 is more finicky but gives a visual indicator of a rim around its edge that lights up for a couple seconds when properly placed.

1. My Nexus 7 (2013) and Galaxy S7 have bad charge ports. The only way I can charge them is by wireless charging.
2. I also charged my wife’s phone with my Note 10+ when we were on the tube. It was enough to be able to tap out at the gate.
3. My friends who have iPhone 8 and up ask for if I have a lightening cable, which I don’t. They use my wireless charger.
It has a ways to go but you gotta start somewhere.

I like it. I hate having to grab a wire and plug it in. I have wireless chargers on my night stand, in my car, on my computer desk, and my entrance stand where I drop my keys and everything when I get home.

I’ve got an upright wireless charger on my bedside, and it’s almost impossible to misalign it. It’s slower than the Huawei one, but it’s got all night to get there.
I generally don’t need to charge during the day, but if so Wireless charging is convenient to just drop it on for small bursts. Worst case, I’ve always got a cable ready for situations where I need a super quick charge – but it’s rare.
Main reason for me is that I’ve had issues in the past with wear and tear on the connectors (admittedly more micro USB) but still this avoids the issue entirely.

May 2, 2020 at 2:43 pm
Gotta be honest, you are very wrong. Wireless charging has many advantages for disabled people. I am visually impaired and with that, some things can be difficult to locate. I.e. phone chargers! With a wireless charger, I have no worries because I know that my charger is right on my bedside and I have no worries about finding it.
Also, my wife has Cerebral palsy in her hands. Meaning that griping things is extremely difficult. I.e. gripping a small cable to plug into her phone. With a wireless charger, all she has to do it put it on the charger. No messing about. Job done.
One more thing, they are called wireless chargers because the charge things wirelessly.
Sorry if I am being blunt but you really should look into things properly before you start going off on one about them. I hope you do when you do your next video.

May 2, 2020 at 2:44 pm
I think the only reason I would like to wireless charge (current SE does not support it) is because the Lightning cable kinda sucks as it wears. Got to the point I cannot rely on a charge when plugged in, even with periodic cleaning of the port. I think both methods have a place to be used together depending on when/where you need to charge.

Wireless charging is great for 2 reasons – 1 you don’t damage your cable by bending it all over the place. 2 – if you have it beside your bed it’s dissuades you from using your phone at night.
I use a cable during the day and wireless charging at night. Which IMO is the best way to have it.

I never saw the beautify in horizontal wireless charging, the device can fall or it won’t charge if you misalign it…. I always go with vertical wireless chargers stands instead.. works every time…. and about the slow charging speed, don’t care, I only use at night. During the day I don’t charge my phone at all.

I ended up on wireless charging because my power adapter on the phone died. It allowed me to keep using my phone for another year. I had a galaxy s7. I could have changed out the port but was able to charge wirelessly without having to crack open the phone. Now with my new phone I still charge wirelessly when I sleep.

I personally love wireless charging. I haven’t used a wire for over a year. My phone holder in my car charges, desk at work and home stand is the charger and by my bed. I have never missed the charger. The only thing a wire offers is using while charging or if you have one of those insanely fast android charging phones but since my battery is 75-100% almost always. This has yet to be an issue.

Congrats with first video. You are cool and you are right, wireless charging is useless, actually “wireless” is not the right word for it. They should have called it “touchy charging” or “round spot charging”. The true wireless charging is charging via powerbank, it’s portable and more convenient.

Rob
May 3, 2020 at 2:04 pm
Most importantly – wireless charging takes longer BECAUSE there is so much loss in transmission. This means it takes a LOT of extra energy to achieve a full charge using no wires. This means if there were to be mass adoption of wireless charging we would need more electric production thru out the developed world and more than likely that new power production would not be all clean energy – thus creating an even worse climate problem. So stop being lazy and just plug the phone in. Thank You.
Mahesh Bhattarai
May 3, 2020 at 3:54 pm
Totally agree. Also if Wireless charging could come with power bank feature, so when it’s plugged, and you are charging the phone, the charger gets fully charged. Then, once the phone runs out, if you carried the wireless charging pad (which has built in powerbank) can recharge your phone.
Bottom line: see, how talking about improving wireless charging is awkward, and method itself is an overkill! Who needs a wireless charging when power banks already there. One person only needs a regular charger (maybe extras if you have other devices) and a power bank for backup. Maybe. Just my opinion. BTW, my wireless charging pad is slower than Fast Samsung charger.

I agree with the main premises of this video. OnePlus really changed the game with the 30w wireless though. It really depends on your use-case: For me it only makes sense when you’re in the office and not glued to your phone. Thus you’re not putting a large load on your battery and furthermore you aren’t fixated on the rate at which your phone is being charged.

Wireless charging is life-changing, and possibly only bettered by the invention of the wheel or the discovery of fire.
Every iPhone I’ve owned has eventually failed at the lightening port, or at best become intermittently temperamental.
Wireless has made charging something I no longer have to think about, I have a pad on my desk at work and another at home on my table. I leave the phone on them and it’s always charged.
