Surface Pro 7 review: Hello, old friend 🧙
Pablo Saucedo
March 13, 2023 at 3:14 pm
All while making people go and buy an adapter using more packaging and shipping then claim being eco friendly. My mom upgraded recently and only had USBa lightning cables so I had to buy her a new brick to go with the USBC cable

Yes, because this will make a difference. Apple, why?
Nick
March 13, 2023 at 5:10 pm
it will tho
Nathan Cronin
March 13, 2023 at 5:17 pm
@Nick but, how? It’s such a miniscule percentage of power needed to charge any phone
Nathan Cronin
March 14, 2023 at 3:59 pm
@Nick I will have you know that I whine when I want. My mom said it was okay as long as I limit it to 14 hrs/day. 0.2% is still 0.2% no matter what. Your numbers make it seem like a lot, but the average home is 500x that amount. That doesn’t even include businesses and vehicles on the road. It is a drop in the ocean. That’s all I’m saying.
Nick
March 14, 2023 at 4:35 pm
@Nathan Cronin half a tonne everyday is still pretty decent for something that has zero impact to the end user’s charging experience, doesn’t matter if it’s 0.2%, it’s the fact *every* iphone will be doing this, little difference per device, bigger overall impact
Nathan Cronin
March 14, 2023 at 5:25 pm
@Nick you’re right. An improvement is an improvement, even if no one notices. Small impact per device, smaller impact per household. It is still pointless. I don’t think the improvement is worth it if no one sees the difference.
Nick
March 14, 2023 at 6:37 pm
@Nathan Cronin the point is that the end user is not supposed to see a difference! It just does it in the background. God, how did you miss the point that hard. Saving half a ton of cO2 going into the atmosphere every day is massive for such a tiny change. You don’t even need to do anything about it, it does everything for you… Apple has always said they want to make their devices as carbon neutral as possible, this is how they help to meet those goals, that is part of their business plan. Nothing to get overly upset over, especially when it doesn’t impact you whatsoever…
Nathan Cronin
March 14, 2023 at 8:46 pm
@Nick no, it doesn’t really affect me. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t have an opinion. I don’t understand why Apple pats itself on the back for this when breathing releases more CO2 than charging 80 iPhones.
Nick
March 15, 2023 at 3:25 am
@Nathan Cronin half a tonne of co2 a day can be avoided going into the atmosphere with that change, there are 125 million iPhone users in the US, not 80.
Nathan Cronin
March 15, 2023 at 3:41 am
@Nick I should have clarified. Breathing releases more CO2 per day per person than charging 80 iPhones once per day per person.
Nick
March 15, 2023 at 4:33 am
@Nathan Cronin that’s not something that falls in Apple’s scope of responsibility, their goal is to make their phones more environmentally friendly and they did just that, half a tonne of CO2 a day avoided just by having that little tweak. Helps them meet their targets and doesn’t impact consumers, half a tonne is half a tonne, that’s a fair chunk of CO2 saved per day, something that will add up the more time it’s used
Nathan Cronin
March 15, 2023 at 12:48 pm
@Nick well sir, if you think half a ton will make a difference to the earth, you are more than free to think that.
Nick
March 15, 2023 at 1:12 pm
@Nathan Cronin half a ton a day less CO2 is great for such a small change, especially when it impacts no one adversely

Employee: “Boss, sorry I couldn’t call and let you know I wasn’t going to come in today”
Boss: “Why?”
Employee: “See Apple introduced this new clean energy charging feature by default on IPhone’s and where I stay there’s no clean energy right now”
Boss: “What.”

Turned that off as soon as I found out about it! If I plug my phone in I need it to charge! If I wake up and my phone isn’t at 100% when I wake up all Apple is doing is making me mad and think that there’s something wrong with my phone! This is a stupid feature!
Nick
March 13, 2023 at 5:14 pm
It’s still going to charge to 100%, it just learns your schedule to try and do the bulk of the charging at low carbon emission energy source times

How does it know what is “clean energy” and what is not?
Nick
March 13, 2023 at 5:12 pm
checks your location vs the grid and sees when the grid is using renewables and other low carbon emission energy sources

That’s garbage we don’t need this feature on any phone we want faster charging the tech is here
Nick
March 14, 2023 at 4:37 pm
it doesn’t slow the charging down lol, it just delays the charging when you’re say, charging while asleep till there’s cleaner energy, then if it thinks it wont be able to charge to 100% before you get up to use it using clean energy, it will just automatically charge to 100% and override the clean energy stuff
