What to expect at Apple’s Eonderlust event; higher prices.

      September 5, 2023 at 2:26 pm

Exactly, and the same sub-par battery life.

I want an IPhone 15 Mini to replace my current much loved 13 Mini !!!!!
Unfortunately that ain’t gunna happen so my yearly upgrade habit will be ending, my 14 Plus is just being used as a camera for home use.

      September 5, 2023 at 5:55 pm

Wow, yearly upgrades? Barely anything changes each year to warrant that.

Yawn. Another year of trivial incremental changes. When the new colors are the big news you know it’s a “skip” year. 🥱

We will see an upgrade in prices though

It seems that most of the big upgrades are in the Pro Max/Ultra this year.
      – IMX903 sensor for the main camera, 30% larger (area) than IMX803 (14 Pro) and 2x the size of IMX703 (13 Pro). IMX903 uses sony’s stacked sensor tech with double light saturation. Should be a huge upgrade. Also new glass-plastic hybrid lens to control light flares and increase clarity.
      – Persicope telephoto: Possible variable zoom lens 3x-6x. LG Innotek makes them and there was supposedly a big order put forward by apple a while back. That would make sense because then you still have the 3x zoom for portraits but then you can smoothly zoom out to 6x.
      – A17 3nm. Worlds first 3nm smartphone chip. Should be a huge increase in performance but even more importantly, power efficiency making it last longer and run cooler when pushing it hard in games etc.
      – USB-C but not just any USB-C, Thunderbolt 4 speeds. Most people dont need it but apple is just flexing. It’s 8 times faster than the USB speeds on the S23 Ultra.
      – New Lidar sensor. Little is known about this but hopefully more accurate and more power efficient.
      – Bigger batteries all round. This plus the efficiency from the 3nm chip should result in phenomenal battery life.
      – Brighter screen with a more power efficient display controller. Also smaller bezels which will make the phones a bit narrower and shorter which is a welcome change for the biggest models.
      – Titanium frame. Strong, sexy, durable, light. Also slightly upgraded shape for better hand feel.
      – Action button. They will likely have 3 functions (same as the power button) i.e. you can click, double click or hold and you can customise the action for each. This is great. You could set it up to silence toggle, open camera, open app or maybe you want torch or something else, you get to choose!
      – New quallcom modem with increased speed, signal and efficiency. Also Wifi 6E (maybe only on Pro models)
      – As always we will see other incremental changes like better speakers, better selfie camera, maybe some special software features that have been kept secret so far (think dynamic island, nobody knew until they announced it).

There are more changes too but that’s all I can think of right now. They have basically upgraded every single component. But hey, if you wanna wait for next year then you have a right to do that.

    • Samuel L Jackson's Chameleon

      September 5, 2023 at 6:28 pm

Yes but my point is who cares. While all these things are being changed they will make no substantive difference in the average user’s experience (a new Lidar sensor Oh Boy! And most of the USB-C will be locked to USB-A speeds so no improvement in performance). Unless you are many generations out of sync no one thinks their iPhone is slow, and no one will be honestly able to tell the difference between iPhone 15 photos and those from relatively recent gens. But a titanium frame and a slightly different shade of grey – wow how life changing. But hey if you want to go spend your cash on a bunch of “upgrades” then you have the right to do that. ☺@The.JZA.

The particles are all about the new LiDAR unit with advanced mapping features.

    • The.JZA.

      September 5, 2023 at 5:25 pm

Yeah I hope the new LIDAR sensor is a big upgrade. I use it for work sometimes and while it is awesome and helpful, it could be a but more accurate at times. I am a structural engineer so I scan structure on-site and then import it into my 3D modelling software to compare the designed structure with what has been built. It’s especially helpful for existing buildings where we are doing modifications because I can import the existing structure into my software and then design around it.

The biggest change of this new iPhone is the amount of e-waste from all the useless lightning cables.

    • TheSagefx

      September 5, 2023 at 7:49 pm

You still need them for the current Airpods Max and AirPods I believe everything else sold directly from apple uses usb-c

    • LA Designer

      September 5, 2023 at 8:04 pm

@TheSagefx Those should have never used lightning cables to begin with. It’s just their way of keeping things proprietary. That’s why I stopped buying their products years ago. Haven’t looked back.

It would be nice to know if we’re going to get refreshed iPads this year. I would like to pick up an iPad Mini but since the Mini 6 was released in 2021. It makes me think Apple might announce a chipset or storage bump before 2024.

    • W K

      September 6, 2023 at 10:06 am

I think there will be a new iPad mini this year. If you look at carrier websites the iPad mini stock is going down and not getting more and that is something that seems to happen year over year.

Oeeehhhh, the S9 comes in pink. That”s all?? Oehhh, the Ultra in black. 😂 All this fuss about a watch. And they all do the same, from the S5 to the Ultra. Difference? The Ultra lasts you a day more and is made out of titanium. And for those 2 reasons Apple charges you € 999,- or $ 799,-. I spoke to so many people who returned the Ultra to swap it for the S8. Why? Ultra is to big, heavy and has all the specs of the S8 for half the price and the screens are equal in size.
