We searched the globe for ideas with the power to inspire, motivate and change lives — and we found them at @TEDx events around the world. TED’s global Idea Search visits Sydney, Australia, where 10 speakers compete for a spot on the main TED stage in Vancouver. After rehearsals and coaching, Jessica Owen wins with her powerful talk about communicating with non-verbal individuals, earning a standing ovation and the opportunity of a lifetime.

Yes Jess! Your talk is so needed not only for palsy and other disorders that make nonverbal, but also ALS and other less known diseases that make a person nonverbal. It was so painful to see my mom being ignored when her disease made her non-verbal. I always advocated for her to be “heard”, but I couldn’t be with her every minute and I didn’t have a power of attorney.
