Journalism needs to change its name because it isn’t going anywhere when people are so fearful and get hooked on violence. Until we change ourselves it won’t

There still needs to be money coming in. It needs eye catching titles and statistics otherwise no one is reading the reports

No, “War Journalism” should be rooted in *”truth”* instead of the unrelenting ubiquitous communist propaganda that we get now.

Most journalism sounds like sports reporting for sociopath Olympics.
I bet most war mongerers watch the news like it’s their highlight reels.

This ideology, that journalists should inject their own emotion and interpretation into their reports, goes against the principles of ethical journalism. She’s correct that modern journalists concoct stories for clicks, but her solution is wrong. Journalism needs to return to truthfulness and accuracy, independence from external influence, impartiality, and they should be held accountable for their actions.

Kind of frustrated to see this title. So much disinformation is said about ongoing conflicts. Empathy? Empathy does not tell us whats going on. People need to know whats going on and not another victim impact statement that gets used as a disinformation packet to discredit a side. Winning the war as fast as possible is empathy in action. Report the facts let the people know. Stop redirecting information manipulating it.

It is very difficult to proceed truth as peoples appetites are against it. The bang-bang-isation of war, the same can be said about human sexuality. How many bang bang you can see on the internet, as love and tenderness are reduced to a feeling for the extreme. There is also bang-bang-isation in food industry and food commercials. How many commercials are exploiting a brief moment of pleasure, for sugar and fat, and there is no real satisfaction for eating healthy. You can go on

Journalism should be rooted in TRUTH not in FEELINGS….

  20. @alicceeee

    August 2, 2024 at 1:18 am

Ummm… I guess I missed the point, but why should journalism not be reporting facts and figures during war? Anything else would make the reporting totally biased… Especially if you’re reporting for any major news outlet whose literal point of existence is to spin a narrative that protects the interests of Western imperialism.

Also, why is this person centering themselves so much when talking about the suffering of others? Icky.

  21. @BlackBear2991

    Journalism shouldn’t be ideologicaly driving

  22. @ZzzFreeZzz

    August 2, 2024 at 6:07 am

There are a few comments in here that are completely missing the point being made by Bel Trew. Yes Conflict Journalism should be about conveying the truth, but Western society has successfully normalized images of violence and almost “gamified” the way in which people can view the conflict in the Ukraine and Gaza through the use of social media apps such as Telegram, Tiktok and Instagram. Western society has become so disconnected from the reality of actually living and experiencing War, that it is crucial for Journalists to show those of us lucky enough not to be born in Gaza or Ukraine or any other conflict zone the “Human” side of War. Showing us the “Human” side of War allows us to connect with the reality of what life is actually like for these people.

  23. @hazelw3698

    August 2, 2024 at 9:14 am

its all fine and well talking about truth and empathy, but you’re missing the point. As long as major news outlets like the new york times bang out headlines like “terrorists rape and kill innocent israelis” and “missile finds gazan children” it doesn’t matter if you or anyone else is empathetic. the news coverage of the last few months showed us the manipulative tactics of western media outlets and how they hide their bias by word choice and phrasing. as long as journalism relies on ideology and propaganda, it doesn’t matter if you’re empathetic. “it’s sad that over 30,000 people died in gaza but its their own fault” can be said with or without empathy, it does not change the fact that collective punishment and genocidal intent is trying to be swept under the rug. people on social media are not “throwing out” these words casually. we have to dig out the truth from un proceedings and front line journalists who are being disregarded by the ap. this is an extremely low bar but this talk walked around the problem and bel trew and ted will point to this talk and say, “see we talked about how this was wrong”.

Looks like Bel Trews was one of the “journalists” that helped propagate the lie which was used as justification to unalive any and all life in Gaza.

Youtube keeps taking down my comment so I can’t post the link to her article, but it’s the one where they made fake claims that H * m * s was taking heads from babies….
