Sad how Steve Jobs really got people mobile computing and now Apple is like sit on couch and put this on your face lol it’s not even the same thing apple forgot they had iPod that made iPhone so good and the Vision Pro don’t even have YouTube so who’s it for

January 26, 2024 at 4:30 pm
I preordered the Vision Pro. I’ve been thinking about and waiting for something like it for most of my life, so there was no way I was going to be able to resist getting a set. I will admit I did not expect Apple to be the first company to make a legitimately interesting mixed reality device, but I’m actually glad that it is. When Apple commits itself to a new tech, it’s because they truly believe in it. They aren’t the type of company to only go halfway in. BTW, I can’t wait to watch movies alone inside goggles! 😉

I am sorry, but I just don’t understand how this is going to be better than a Quest 3, which is only one-eighth the cost. I know, better resolution. But that is basically it right? And the Quest comes with controllers.

Cool Analogy, great video :). With this thing/product however I feel is GG “Privacy”, anyone’s ID will now be available via vision recog. just by looking at them, or looking at them and blinking, etc. Biggest implications here I think are for “security” industry in general. Can have one system ID a “trespasser” for ex., and then have “vision pro” etc., “highlight their silhouette” etc., with a green field etc. Going to be much harder to be a criminal etc., perhaps, but also may facilitate a sort of very “capable” totalitarian type security state if one will potentially, which can go many ways perhaps.

With sales tax of 7.0 percent Vision Pro is going to cost me $3,762.50. Not to mention any other crap I have to buy for it. That is closer to $4000. Why would I do that. SAMSUNG 77-Inch Class OLED 4K is $2,900.34 and that’s with 7.0 percent sales tax. It won’t make my 63-ft trawler any better. And TV looks great on the boat. Why the Vision Pro?

I really think that the real interesting feature of the Vision Pro is the Apple Experiences (or something like that). I just have a feeling that this will be an Apple “Subscription Service” in the future. Can you imagine paying a subscription price to sit court side watching your favorite basketball team or behind home plate watch your favorite baseball team during the season? I think it may be worth it IF it truly feels like you are there. I guess I’ll find out given the fact that Apple Vision Pro launches with the Alicia Keys intimate concert.

People need to understand that the Vision Pro is not for the average cash strapped consumer. The “Pro” is a term coined for people who do creative work. In other words, this model is for developers. Only a fool would buy one now given the lack of apps. Apple with use the money for R&D to lower costs on the consumer model. It will only get better with time and become the defacto headset like the ipad is to tablets and apple watch is to smart watches.

@friscodog
January 27, 2024 at 12:54 am
I’ve never thought the Vision Pro was very expensive, for what it is. And yes, there will be a market for that. I would buy one, if I had the money for it. By the time I have the money, I’m sure the features will have improved considerably, but I don’t expect the price to come down. This is what it is, and what it’s going to be. And given both the cost and the value comparison, it’s not bad. You didn’t even do the breakdown of the Mac computers and screens it could replace, which makes it look even more reasonable.
Vision Pro is very reasonably priced, for a market that relatively few people happen to be in.

I was one of those first Macintosh owners of 40 years ago. The graphic user interface is what hooked me. But I soon became disappointed with all the limitations: only 128k of RAM, only 2 programs at first and they came on 4 floppy disks (the 3 & 1/2 inch disks couldn’t hold a whole program) which meant constant disk swaps. Then later, I was one of the first Newton owners. That was more frustrating than the MAC. It’s hand writing recognition was not ready for prime time. So Apple has taught me over the years to never be an early adopter. Its better to be an investor in the company than an eager early consumer of its products.

I wanna see the following:
The ability to play amazing games around any area…
1) Link Vision Pros that will be in the game
2) Set the boundaries of the area that will be played (house, yard, gym, etc.)
3) Choose game type and play
> power ups (ability to go invisible, ability to shoot others/tag others, ability to see through virtual walls, etc…)
Tell me that wouldn’t be awesome, playing a game with 15 other people of capture the flag, last man standing, etc… with all sorts of dynamic powerups, virtual walls, and so on.

I bought a SE30 Mac about 40 years ago it changed how I did my artwork. I have photos. I realized how earth shattering this was going to be so I bought Apple Stock at every opportunity. So I’m playing with Apple Profits. YES I bought the VisionPro. It will improve and change human activities. We went through 22 Macs of every generation in our 43 years of business. We couldn’t have done it without the Mac.

A better parallel is between the Vision Pro launch and the Apple Lisa launch. The Lisa was great but far to expensive for anyone to buy.
@kevinbailey8827
January 28, 2024 at 9:32 am
The Vision Pro is not too expensive for anyone to buy. It’s just to expensive for most people.
That’s exactly like the Macintosh. In the mid-80s I was in a club for owners of the Commodore 64. I remember one afternoon we talked about how we loved our Commodore 64s but if we could afford it we’d buy a Mac. At the time, the Mac was more expensive than the Vision Pro.
I did have a friend who bought a Mac. If you remember, the Mac didn’t have a hard drive by default. And there wasn’t an Internet. Whatever data it needed had to come from floppy disks. There were several times where it needed data from two different disks, so it would pop out the disk that was in the drive and ask for the other disk. When you inserted the other disk, it read the data for a second and then asked for the first disk again. I sat there with him, swapping disks for 20 minutes one day. It didn’t always do that, but it happened often enough that he spent several hundred dollars for a second disk drive (which solved the problem).
@John24Russell
January 27, 2024 at 4:03 pm
If we allow Apple to continue steadily increasing the prices of its technology, they will eventually charge consumers exorbitant prices like $10,000, $20,000, and even $30,000. The affordability will become out of reach for most people. Additionally, Apple releases new models of its products every year. Given this rapid rollout, is the price hike truly worth it? I strongly believe not. Therefore, we shouldn’t tolerate Apple’s practice of constantly inflating prices.

All of the “no show” media companies will work fine in Safari, just like they do on macOS. Not sure why not having a native app at launch is such a big deal. They’ll arrive as soon as real people have them in their hands and demand it. Fifteen well selected influencers aren’t enough. 🙂

“Vision Pro” the product is one topic . VR/AR is another. As a MetaQuest user for some years now , I’m convinced AR/VR has much potential… I use MetaQuest to experience travel with Wander & VR videos. Interactive games like put put,escape room, beat saber that I can play with people across the globe. I can even watch movies in apps like BigScreen . Again with people across the globe. I’ve seen people use AR for things like cooking and mechanics as well… and we’re just touching the surface 🤔

At £3500, this is a joke. Quality experience but only for a few years before a sequel comes out (the following year if history is anything to go by”). I hope this flops so that Apple does not end up raising the price of everything again by equating price with value.
