I think the widgets usefulness depends entirely on what you do and how you use them. I find the ones on my lock screen and ipad home screen to be very useful, but don’t yet use any of them for my iphone home screen.

No technobabble? Dafuq? What kind of tech journalism is this?!? And there was no Hype as well!!! Shame on you CNET!

If not obvious, My jokes are bad and CNET makes awesome videos with excellent hosts.

I’m pumped for the vision pro, but the idea of going fully immersed when trapped inside a cramped space amongst a hundred other people sounds way too unsettling to me. At home alone, sure, but not surrounded by strangers.

Also picturing the person who does do this reacting in ways that are disturbing everyone around them while being totally oblivious. Can see this becoming a taboo thing to do if they ever reach mass adoption.

Without the light seal 4:40, it looks super cool. But I understand that you need the light seal for VR environment.

This is a very selfish head set. 5 minutes for guess or family members.
Only you and you alone can wear it😂
So far there doesn’t seem to be a choice for pupillary distance control.

    3500/ 299 = 11.7 or 12 x what a Quest II costs.
Which market are they aiming at? Answer? You can get 12 Quests II’s with that budget. Keep it in mind.
I agree that these stupid things need a travel mode, which they should add as an update to quest II. Just waiting for it.
I just think they kinda wanted to milk this cow, because they knew the Quest II was going to used by people in moving vehicles, so why didn’t they add a travel mode to it by default?
It’s because they think we’re stupid, and will just keep buying these stupid things every time they update it.

I still remember Bridget reviewing the Google Glass prototype. That device had a lot of promise but didn’t go far. How does the promise of Apple Vision compare to that of Glass? Do you think it can also fail due to price and awkwardness (Glass wearers were made fun of, and the device was way less bulky than Vision)?

  20. Andrew Collins

    June 30, 2023 at 6:19 pm

How well will the headset work in low/no light, will it be able to detect tap gestures in a non lit environment?

  21. George H

    June 30, 2023 at 7:37 pm

Remember all the hype around Facebook’s Metaverse? Yeah, that fizzled out after Facebook spent ~$1 billion! Apple’s Vision Pro will probably get some sales upfront from people with excess money. If they eventually lower the price, it will probably do better than the current niche VR market, but not by much. I predict that Vision Pro will ultimately fail. They went to a lot of effort just to make creepy eyes appear on the outside of it. Ugh.

Also to add, Vision Pro doesn’t allow free movement beyond 1.5 meters from the user’s initial stationary point in a fully immersive environment. Meaning 6DOF VR apps like all movement based VR games will take a bad hit if it is built for Vision Pro. At least for now. For me it’s a decision made completely based on safety and so they are more aware of the environment once they put it on. This device is primarily an AR device which I think is the right move.

So when they have everyone’s eye scan what could go wrong when that database is compromised and then rogue entities use that security feature to for example: access a bank vault or your computer. I am not against the tech…my mind just thinks of all the things that could go wrong when all these companies have a database with EVERY SINGLE about YOU that makes you unique, eyes, fingerprints etc. It has all been collected through various hardware systems over the last few years, and we voluntarily give it to them. Why couldn’t they simply use a code input…but no, it’s marketed as ‘ease of accessibility ‘ Hmm. Can they then create an android robot verion of you and embed all those data features to replace you? Oh well…this headset is the first Apple product that makes me seriously consider buying an Apple product. It looks REALLY amazing.

i have a quest 2, and i doubt ill ever buy another VR headset.
The problem? VRs are freaking uncomfortable, no matter how small or light you make them.
Heaving some hefty-sticky-rubber or textile vacuum chamber on your face does not feel nice.

VRs in the way they are designed now, wont last long. Meybe in the future we will get an Open VR prescription glasses type thing.

    • Neptune Michael

      July 2, 2023 at 7:19 pm

I wonder if quest 2 had their batteries mounted externally and plugged in to the headset like vision pro would’ve made a large difference

  57. lostinseganet

@4:05 at the price it is, the headset should correct to your eyesight in someway itself. Maybe read your glasses….

Maybe people think this is okay because the Wall-E movie let us know that any real concerns we have are just “one big joke.” Who can take morib obesity and screen addiction seriously when it’s just a big schtick in an animated kids movie over a decade ahead of its time. Strange how we’re starting to see this all go into action

I would like to say that YES, I was right, they are planning on this becoming the next thing, the next tablet, the next phone type device- why else would they not allow NOBODY to use the thing and therefor, increase sales???

  70. Jean

    July 3, 2023 at 5:15 pm

I am getting one no matter what. It does everything I do everyday with my iPad. Being immersed into it for me is a dream come true. I use my iPad max two hours a day or to watch movies and shows. I am immersed into it even though I sit with family in the same room. This to me is a win win where I’m there but also will be able to be somewhat present (albeit with an funny helmet on my head) but again, I have always bought the v1.0 of most Apple products and and a huge gadget early adopter and beta tester. There’s no way I’ll miss the opportunity to provide feedback and be part of what I am considering a new future of tech. And I was going to spend over $6,000CAD on a new MacBook Pro 16 inch. Might as well spend that on this plus the Zeiss Optical Inserts to replace my glasses that will cost about $800CAD. I’ll be using something that I’ll enjoy more than a laptop and maybe even spend less money 😂
