The US should butt out of Big Tech. Let people pick their own search engines! If folks love Google, that’s their call. Why did this even go to court over a supposed monopoly? It’s absurd! Google’s greatness isn’t a crime; it’s a service. I rely on Google for everything—life without it is unthinkable. Just because some obscure developer’s browser flopped doesn’t mean Google should pay the price for being awesome. Google’s success isn’t a fault—it’s a triumph! Let’s celebrate, not litigate!

    • @brianm6965

      August 5, 2024 at 9:22 pm

😊😊😊People CAN pick their own search engine before and after this. They just don’t want Google putting their finger on the scale.

    • @nicholasjolie

      August 5, 2024 at 9:26 pm

@@brianm6965 Sure, people can choose any search engine, but Google’s success is because it offers what people want. It’s not about unfair advantage; it’s about quality and preference. If others want a piece of the pie, they need to up their game, not rely on regulation.

  15. @av98

    August 5, 2024 at 9:17 pm

    Now nothing.
Google is giving free Gmail, free maps and a good search engine.
It would be better if Courts went against actual criminals. Just see the state of NYC and SFO.
Chinese companies are offering strong challenges on a global platform.
    Google needs to be supported.

Next they will say Apple and Samsung is also an illegal monopoly. People have a choice what they want to use so to say it’s an illegal monopoly without evidence and by hearsay only shows how corrupt the Supreme Court is

  19. @DennyG-xj5ti

    August 5, 2024 at 9:23 pm

Are we supposed to be surprised? Let’s see, a big behemoth Corp muscles out the competition and takes all the money. Where might we have seen this before? Hmm? 🤔

“Google this news for a while” Good one! Seriously though, use Bing?? With Chat GPT and different new chat style AI search, I don’t search as much…ok, let’s use Bing, no that great, and not even using Google as much, a case that’s 10 years to late…

  21. @keim3548

This just means now the state has more leverage on Google to play ball on censorship

Google/Youtube deletes conservative comments much more than they do liberal ones. Then they label that deletion as censorship and safety. Google upholds California values where Thier HQ is.

The Judge says “It is illegal to act in a way that harms competition”. I guess this judge never heard of Walmart and Amazon.

    • @TheRealLaughingGravy

      August 6, 2024 at 6:47 pm

This case wasn’t about Walmart or Amazon, so the judge had no reason to mention them.

I fell in love with YouTube a decade ago learning how to renovate my house. I’d open the app and plumbing videos, interior design, DIY electrical all populated in my feed from my favorite channels. Today when I open the app those videos are not the first thing I see. I see the world on fire 🔥 burning 🔥 from channels I never subscribed to. The CEO made the decision to change this algorithm and does not give me an opportunity to change it back. I’d like to hear from the CEO why does he want Americans to feel chaos when they open the app?

You know someone is either not interested in personal data security when they use Google as their search engine OR they haven’t a clue how to update their devices to use something other than the default. What amazes me is some of these people work in the security industry!

If you’re a web developer, you would understand. It takes MONTHS if not YEARS to get your website to the top of the results on google. Meanwhile, Bing & DuckDuckGo are able to recognize your website within less than a week, and you start appearing at the top of the results much faster. Google only cares about big business and corporations that pay to be at the top.

That’s good now they need sue TikTok because of all the scamming crap and Facebook scammers to and YouTube they all need it no harm and im not try be mean or say anything bad I’m just saying…..

Apple and Samsung this is Microsoft we will pay you billions of dollars for Bing to be your default search engine. Bing’s market share is so small there should be no anti-trust problems for years.

  43. @joesackbaron

    August 6, 2024 at 8:55 pm

The Microsoft monopoly ruling was good becuase IE was always rubbish and displayed html in it’s own way meaning the diplay was all messed up on other lesser known browsers that imlemented it properly. It took the break up and several decades for Micrososft to follow suit, as html itself advanced, and they finally managed to make a decent browser in Edge. And this allowed the much better independant web browsers to gain a much fairer market share over that time; Chrome being one of them. However, Google is way better than Bing or any other Search Engine I’ve ever tried. Curious to see if anyone else can actually do it better.
