Another winner for this series! BTW, the pod reminds me of the presidential pod from ‘Escape From New York.’

So very cool but wouldn’t under ground be safer? Can surface when the water goes back to the proper place

I wonder how it would feel inside the capsule getting hit by debris and waves, bc she was moving a lot. Maybe it would be great if there was a gimbal system so you’re sitting on a suspended seat, to minimize feeling any impact to the shell. Also, a suspended seat could minimize any swaying so you’re always upright and don’t puke from motion sickness lol. I’m no engineer, just a thought that occurred while watching.

There should be a strap holding the occupants head in line with the body. Riding a wave at speeds over 120mph with your body strapped in and your head flopping around loosely is just asking for spinal cord separation when you inevitably hit something solid like a building or rock face.

I highly doubt when you have steel rods and building debri that weighs a ton, cars, boats and who knows what else rammed up into this thing, that it will protect you. Waterfall testing proves nothing. It’s a great idea, but your tests are flawed, WAY too many variables out there.

The obvious comment is: From where does Oxygen refresh come? There were no plants at the points at which light can enter shown… there was no lime shown… where is it the Carbon of Carbon Dioxide removed to create Oxygen molecules can occur, stuck at sea with no chance to open the hatch (a wave can pass at any moment and fill the capsule) to allow gas exchange.
This if used for more than a few hours is… certain death in a capsule.

Yeah, needs a life support system and why not have the interior punted on some type of gyroscope so you stay rapidly upright?

  45. Rean Silk

    July 10, 2020 at 10:14 am

Can see a number of problems, the inside of the sphere should be padded especially the centre pole, its centre of balance is all wrong, the water line was at the door seal when was in the sea, needs a counter weight on the back side of the sphere so the door is pointing up when it is sat in the water, should be fitted with a transmitter food and water supply as standard, and also what happens when you get burried under debris and mud how long will your food and air supply last before you can be rescued………….. Nope not for me, its a spherical coffin, I will take my chances getting to higher ground in the 10 minutes I have

I think this pod needs a 24-hour supply of water, an MRE (or emergency food bars), a life jacket with something to protect the head and (possibly) diapers for two people capacity, add GPS in stock (at a price of $ 15,000, a thousand more, a thousand less), as well as equip a small solar panel (for indoor lighting) and of course a light beacon (for easy detection at night)

It looks kind of close to risking head impact against some of the cage, and the door should really be more on the top than the front, so you can get out better while in the water and not get flooded easily.

  52. Chad King

    July 11, 2020 at 5:49 pm

Great video. I came over from the CNET article, but as a lifelong marine biologist going out to sea quite often, the description in the article that read, “Outside, I can see the Seattle skyline bobbing up and down in between huge waves of water…” Um, that is Puget Sound, not the exposed ocean, and those were not even waves, let alone “huge.” That said, cool tech. I just wouldn’t want to be buried in mud and debris in a real tsunami!
