X has an unbiased fact checking system in community notes thats initiated by the users of X not any authority , not to mention the freedom of infomation on X regardless of political opinion, to suggest Elons insistance that X is more important as a source of news is purely down to financial motives is obviously entirely disingenuous, Elons commitment to free speech is undeniably his relenting motive behind X , you people just cant help yourselves

“His view is that all of those publications, cable news, that they are fake news, because you know he’s not making money out of those and that Twitter/X is real news and that citizen journalists are the real media.” — While it’s tempting to simplify Elon Musk’s criticism of mainstream news outlets as purely financial, the reality is far more complex. Numerous studies and independent analyses have shown that many traditional media outlets, particularly cable news networks, have increasingly prioritized sensationalism and biased reporting over objective facts. This trend has contributed to the spread of misinformation, often for the sake of ratings, clicks, and ad revenue. The impact is profound—these outlets influence millions’ beliefs and opinions, sometimes leading to widespread misunderstandings or polarizations on critical issues. Musk’s preference for citizen journalism on platforms like X stems not from his lack of profits from these media companies but from a belief in decentralized reporting, which he argues is more transparent and accountable. By giving individuals a voice, he hopes to offer a broader spectrum of perspectives and reduce reliance on traditional media sources that, in his view, have too often compromised their journalistic integrity.

How can so many people find bigotry, dishonesty, criminality and greed acceptable. I am a saddened and ashamed to be an American right now.

    • @RoskildeJonas

      November 8, 2024 at 6:33 pm

I’m not an American, and I find both parties laughable. In fact, your entire political system is laughable. With that said: Sometimes you feel so strongly about subject x, that you are willing to compromise on subject y,z.. in order to influence subject x. I highly doubt that the majority of Conservatives voted because they find the above mentioned things acceptable, but they likely have a problem with immigration, wokeism or abortion. Many probably even voted for the Conservative party, because that’s what they have always done. When you live in a democracy you have to accept that other people think something else than you, and that sometimes they will win elections, implementing things you don’t like. When that happens, it is your job to not automatically think of them as inherently bad people. They can have bad reasons for thinking as they do, but they can also have good reasons. Either way, we don’t know.

    • @RoskildeJonas

      November 8, 2024 at 6:39 pm

Oh, and when there’s only truly two relevant parties to vote on, the alternative to voting on the thing you believe in, will be to vote on the thing you really don’t believe in. Imagine if Trump wasn’t surrounded by controversies and that he was just a business man, still as stupid and orange as today and Kamala had been accused of ‘grape’, how would you vote?

Google productivity vs pay and you’ll soon find out. The truth is, both major parties set about impoverishing America’s working class since pay was decoupled from productivity in the late 70s..what you are now seeing is the inevitable consequence of that. Trump is merely the manifestation of modern America.

Ian omitted the main problem with current MSM news coverage. Their tendency to publish news based on selective edits which is how we ended up the the ‘Fine People’s Hoax’, the ‘Drinking Bleach Hoax’, etc. The fact that the journalists are 90% Democrats makes them little more than a press office for the DNC.

Is funny to me that everyone was so critical of Elon’s purchase of Xitter. They were laughing so hard that he and his billionaire buddies lost so much money. But IMO it was all part of the plan. They bought themselves an election with the 2 billion eyeballs they had access to. Now they’ll gain trillions. Now they’ll bankrupt the legacy media companies and take over everything.

To be frank Kamala is a complete failure as VP and projecting her as presidential candidate is a bankrupt idea by democrats. She had barely 100 days. Americans rejected not only Harris but identity politics of democrats. Americans rejected obama 4.0

The United States is already done, in justice, economy, science, and democracy and only Trump-voters don’t know it. Many Trump voters believe that Trump will recover the US economy and their financial wail be better, but it won’t happen, all wealth will go to Trump and his friend’s pocket, like Elon Musk. US will become a country dominated by dictator, conspiracy and cult, very similar to Japan which has dramatically declined, while dominated by the “emperor” Shinzo Abe who was Trump’s friend for decades until his assassination. I’m very wondering when US realize it and fix those, can be longer than tens of years

  23. @hirokou.9030

    November 8, 2024 at 7:50 pm

I was a supporter of Harris from Japan. Please forgive me for expressing my opinion from the outside. I followed the news daily, be it the New York Times, the Washington Post, Germany’s Spiegel, the UK’s Economist, or, like you, the more Harris-oriented YouTube channels. I never doubted that Harris would win, and now I am shocked. But now that I think about it, my information was too biased towards Harris. No matter how vulgar, lying, and sloppy a populist Trump is, I should have learned more about him and his supporters from different angles. Weren’t the Harris-leaning media targeting Harris supporters to get more followers and better ratings? The same goes for Trump supporters who are only exposed to fake information about Trump and misinformation about Harris.
In the States, don’t you have any major media outlet that almost everyone watches or reads and trusts? Like NHK in Japan, ARD or ZDF in Germany, and BBC in the UK. They are funded mainly by public license fees, not by the government. (They might be more or less pro-government, but as a principle, they must be neutral.)I think the situation will not change unless there is information that is shared and trusted by everyone.

  24. @coldspring22

  25. @coldspring22

    November 8, 2024 at 8:17 pm

Yet, when you look at Trump vote totals, there is nary an evidence that Musk actually helped Trump win. Trump to Musk: Hey, how come I got just as many votes in 2020 when you weren’t around? What did you actually do for me?

  26. @montyhall2805

MSM is news reported thru a north eastern liberal lens. This shouldn’t be surprising, watch news in different countries and the biases become readily apparent. It’s not bad, but I think it’s a limitation of human communication.

I do not see the relevance of noting that other countries are also leaning to the right. The USA has always been the “leader” of the Western World, when it comes to political leanings. The USA does not take it’s actions, based on what other countries are doing. No, but I do think this Trump victory may be a real dagger in the heart of American democracy. I think it was Churchill who said..We get the leadership we deserve”…and the MAGA crowd will now suffer, just like the rest of us in this messed-up country!

I laughed when he said CNN leans left, liberals detest CNN now. One thing is true, overall from left to right the American people don’t trust media outlets anymore, most people get their info through podcasts now. And finally, Trump is a wannabe dictator who will act accordingly, the man doesn’t believe on anything but to enrich himself, his family and to have power.

  32. @downhour1

the guy has no idea what he’s talking about. his logic is so stupid even a child could see it. trump couldn’t, wouldn’t and will not do anything to cease the war in ukr because 1. he can’t. 2. because he has no interest in diminishing the us guns production that brings them billions. 3.why fix something that works? a big countrie basically sells it’s future to you to fight your enemy. 🤷‍♂️ what’s the logic in warning ukr with weapons cease while warning russia of bigger sanctions? sanctions didn’t work, so leaving ukr without defence would mean a victory for your enemy.

Power is neutral, it for whom we weild it that makes us exponential or imploding. We will the good for humankind. The US population 2024 census 346,088,504 , voted 145,566,491 of that 74,549,984 voted for Trump. There are 275,171,997 that did not vote for Trump, may it be the couch, another party, but they did not vote for the Grand Wizard, there is HOPE. Greed, Racism, Gender, White Fear and Selfishness is what he won. This is just my opinion, everybody has one but what is their intent. yes, our corporate media is feckless in fact checking trump and yes, everything that comes out of trump’s pie-hole is a lie but they make little effort correcting him because they are afraid of him. We have people running these companies that are spineless. The only thing trump is good at is lying, that is his jam and that is what he won with. The country may look red but 1/2 of us aren’t and I have nothing but hate for trump, melania everyone trump except mary and everything maggot. All of a sudden now, surprisingly trump is not whining about fraud in the election. he is a baby needing a diaper all the time and an embarrassment for america. Inflation….food prices up 25%, rent up 20%, interest rates more than doubling. Carter, Bush, and Harris all lost primarily because most voters felt the pain of cumulative inflation.

Ascertaing the truth..hmm, this is no longer important for large parts of the people of this country. The fascination for a con man, convict that never proved anything in his entire existence, is mind boggling.

I long respected Ian Bremer’s analysis; watching this, my respect is gone. He’s an “it is what it is” guy. Whatever helps his business is acceptable to him.

Can you please provide evidence for the Russian threat calls. The Democrats proved to be they party of the elite wealthy citizens, the ant- common sense woke and the financial challenges of the working class was which were ignored seems to be some factors.

We could have shown our daughters and granddaughters that they can become anything they want in this world. Instead, we showed our sons and grandsons that they can get away with being monsters.

You had me until 2:10 remaining to the end. Most Americans are tired of the outright BS lies and status quo. I enjoyed listening to this whole thing, but you became totally democrat at the last two minutes and 10 seconds. It’s nice to know, you THINK you know, what ALLLllll the allies believe in and are interested in. You are a small little man thinking he knows opinions of thousands. You, like all the other idiots, “Well, I spoke to a lot of people”… “Well, my sources tell me…”. Look inward as in, “what the heck did we do wrong and how can we make it better for the next election??”. I’m certain you’ve gotten every NATO countries opinion, I’m pretty sure they don’t want you speaking for them either. Start speaking greatness upon the country, and great things will happen. Speak great things upon the leaders of the country, and great things will happen. If not, THEN let me hear your two cents worth and what all the NATO countries think and want.

If you can’t afford education best option for lower income (the many) is get your kids in the services. Any President they can’t trust to stay out of a war, they won’t vote for.

This is epically hilarious! Even today, not admitting the failure but blaming for disinformation.
The golden sentence is “People would have feelings about things are but they don’t necessarily know what the facts are”, which shows how arrogant and delusional these “experts” are.
They think they are controlling the truth, they can bend the truth by their words even the whole country has shown on their face, how wrong they have been.
This attitude is exactly how they lost pretty much on every single aspect of this election.

  96. @johndeboyace7943

The US media for the most part was biased against Trump, there was no balanced reporting. It was wildly overt and really very annoying. Many dislike Trump, but the alternative was worse in the eyes of voters. Now everyone is a reporter due to the internet and the dishonesty of the main stream media. That Trump won seems it should have been impossible with all the forces arrayed against him. But he won because the electorate thought the Democrats were lying.

America is a self centered, selfish and mainly intolerant nation today. we will see how long thats sustainable…. On behalf of my fellow citizens that cant grasp that sorry world! Though I suspect we are soon going bto pay the price.

Ian’s explanations and reasoning are helpful in sorting out the miasma of competing problems we face. The slurs that boh parties throw against each other are disgusting, however. We need NO money allowed in political competition. A completely new system needs to be created for political elections. Perhaps a fairly weighted A I can create one for us so that each side’s plans for the country can be measured side by side and then every citizen’s vote fairly registered.

  99. @kevinfessler6831

    November 11, 2024 at 8:26 pm

Excellent analysis. I thought ideas would be presented from a left-wing perspective but not only did I detect little bias, the ideas about how Trump would approach Russia-Ukraine and the MIddle East were on point and high plausible.
