Touch ID can return to iPhone 12 (thanks iPad Air)

Long live, Touch ID! It’s time for the iPhone to bring back Touch ID, and the fingerprint sensor could come to the power button — just as Apple did with the iPad Air. Face ID just doesn’t fly in an era where we cover up with masks.

I prefer Face ID I’m old & my fingerprints change with the weather. Touch ID never worked for me I was glad to see the back of it, may it never return

The sole reason I am using “the new old new” iPhone SE. Won’t buy iPhone 12 if no Touch ID.

On the power button wouldn’t be practical. Under the screen fingerprint would be way better

    • Engorgio Armani

      September 24, 2020 at 1:04 am

TY gaming are you sure? Power button is located exactly where you rest your thumb (at the side). It’s the PERFECT location! It’ll be even faster than home button or in screen

  28. N9IBZED

    September 23, 2020 at 7:01 am

Another thing you gotta think about is what happens if you have the iphone in a case that will not work with touch ID bring back the home button and touch ID and lose the stupid notch that thing is to much of a distraction

  29. Jay Polo

    September 23, 2020 at 7:03 am

They should just update the phones to unlock with the mask on

  33. Graeme Le Roux

    September 23, 2020 at 10:54 am

I’ve never had a problem using faceID – until masks became necessary. I’d like to see the iPhone 12 give you the option of using either FaceID, TouchID or, for the truely paranoid, both. That way we could use FaceID when not wearing a mask and TouchID when we are. It would also be nice to be able to assign ID options by application – e.g. one or the other for ApplePay and both for access to a banking app or maybe your employer’s remote working app…

  35. De Aeolus

Hi Apple, Face ID is cool. Take my money and give me back Touch ID. Welcome.

  36. Chris Teasdale

    September 23, 2020 at 11:30 am

I use a very long “password” for my iPhone so constantly having to enter it when Face ID fails just isn’t an option. I was wearing a mask for wildfire smoke in November 2018 and when Face ID wouldn’t work I returned iPhone 10S after only 3 days.

The most frustrating feature of my Iphone 10S Max is the Face ID. Absolutely hate it. I have a work phone too IPhone 7 and when I need to do something quickly I go to IPhone 7. Hate Face ID.

No Touch ID on iPhone 12/12 Pro in my opinion.

  42. VAMobMember

    September 23, 2020 at 3:11 pm

    Face ID?
    Touch ID?

    Never going to do it.
Think about it this way. Someone wants illegal access to your phone. They can FORCE you to touch or look at the phone but TTHEY CAN NOT FORCE YOU TO ENTER THE CODE NUMBER. (Except tour her of course).

  43. Earth Kidkul

    September 23, 2020 at 4:22 pm

I like the Face ID and never have any problem with it but finger print is good too. so may be should put both in the iPhone and we as the customers can choose which one we want to use either the finger print or Face ID.

  44. Rishabh Mittal

    September 23, 2020 at 4:39 pm

OnePlus has been giving it’s users both options of fingerprint and face unlock for years now. Samsung did it with S10e. Apple needs to take inspiration.

  45. Angelo Villones

    September 23, 2020 at 4:47 pm

As much as like Face ID on my iPad Pro and would like to have in on my iPhone as well, I’m not gonna upgrade from my iPhone 8 until Touch ID returns.

  46. Maicho

    September 23, 2020 at 6:38 pm

It’s hard to imagine it will only be used for the new iPad Air and nothing else, so it’s very hopeful it will make its way to future iPhones. Though not this year probably!

  47. 87_Michael

    September 23, 2020 at 7:25 pm

Get rid of FaceID & put the fingerprint scanner under the glass. That notch can go too

Haha shame America we had our second wave and we’re already Covid free

  49. RFB_YT

    September 23, 2020 at 9:26 pm

I want both FaceID & fingerprint ID. FaceID is great (when it works) but I definitely want the fingerprint to be the backup with my password as the last resort
