Or it can drop 500lbs. 😨

This is cool, but it’s not for your average delivery like pizza, groceries or packages. I’m a pizza delivery driver and I can tell you for a fact that most people don’t have 50 square feet of open space for this thing to land. Even on streets sometimes there’s not space because cars are parked there or it’s a thin road.

Well this doesn’t do individual deliveries so doesn’t matter if people have space or not, it’s being used for warehouse hub delivery.

I also see this technology being used by the United States Post Office. This will help the Post Office improve delivery times and take trucks off the road when it comes to remote post offices reciving large and small volumes of mail thats going to remote locations.

I can see this being massively helpful in counties around the world where the road infrastructure is not as extensive as the US. There are many populations centers around the world that are virtually cut off from the main transit systems and this could help shorten the logistical issues that scenario presents. With a payload like that, depending on the cost, I can envision this being an early step in bringing communities in deeply isolated locations closer. Certainly it isn’t a 100% solutions, there would be noise concerns, accounting for burning fuel and so on, but I’m glad to see this sort of innovation.

Bad for the environment, we’re in a time where we’re facing frequent hurricanes and fires caused by the global warming why can’t it be fully electric

Sorry but the cost per flight is going to be prohibitive. Might be good for delivery of human organs to hospitals as cost isn’t as much of an issue there.

These cargo drones would definitely reduce a lot of CO2 in the air from delivery vans, trucks and other types of cars that are on the road today. Very impressive.

WTF what the Flight good idea I mean my great niece had a disaster with Fed up Ex a driver just threw her package in the yard and sped off and the dogs destroyed her package and when I heard about it I was 😡🤬 this is would be much better, she lives in a rural area I’m tired of the FAA getting in our business and why do we have need their permission anyway I know up until a certain distance there’s no need for a permission slip.

    My money is on:
    1- Humanitarian aid (fingers crossed)
    2- Military use (more probable)
This will not (in my opinion) be delivering consumer products.

It would be cool if while landing it transforms into a robot to deliver the package, cool and terrifying.

These delivery systems are great, but unfortunately I don’t have much faith in humanity to keep these going. I can see them being shot out of the sky and torn apart, or stolen. Just look what happened to the traveling robot several years ago.

    • Mr Bamfo

      February 4, 2022 at 9:39 pm

Mail delivery issues are largely due to one party in congress trying to kill the post office for the last couple of decades. They made the post office front load their pension plan, nobody else has to do that, and it put them billions of dollars in the hole. Most people don’t realize the post office isn’t funded through government taxes, They’re independent and funded by postal rates.. So if they’re running huge deficits, there are only so many things you can do to right the ship. Rate hikes, aging infrastructure, slower delivery. It’s a long term plan they’re executing to get public opinion to become negative enough where they can privatize it. The same party has been running this same plan against the government since the 80s. When you’re constantly demonizing the government and cutting funding for programs time and time again to where they finally get it where it doesn’t function well they can advocate getting rid of it.

Will not work. If advanced military drones aren’t perfect then you damn sure don’t want to be underneath this one when it crashes. They all crash! Weather, malfunctions, and human error.

They already use drones. They’re kind of a try everything kind of group. Tunnels, mules, boats, trucks, cars, sling shots, you name it. Oh, I forgot submarines.

  26. DoubleCTech

    February 5, 2022 at 3:49 am

I think they made the right choice going with a hybrid system. Solid state batteries are still being developed and lithium batteries don’t have the energy density needed for flight. I think that will change in about a decade through.

Yup, turbine generators running at their optimum rpms also are quite efficient and burn really cleanly compared to piston engines.

Def do proof of concept elsewhere.
